Disappointed
Pros:

I don’t normally leave negative reviews, but after being genuinely excited to stay here, having previously enjoyed the facilities and themed nights, saying we were disappointed would be an understatement.
From check-in, communication was minimal. We had to ask whether use of the facilities was included, only to be told it would be an additional £5 per room, which we paid. We were given our room number but no directions, and it turned out to be far from easy to find. Room 502 required going up to the second floor, walking to the very end, and then going downstairs.
Upon entering the room, we realised it was labelled as disability accessible, which was confusing given the stairs required to reach it. There was a lift nearby, but it led only to a fire exit, not reception or any amenities, meaning you had to go outside and re enter through the main entrance. This clearly hadn’t been thought through very well.
The room itself was poorly lit, with only two lamps and an overly bright bathroom light. The coffee cups were dirty and sticky, and the TV remote didn’t work. While I understand it’s not directly the hotel’s fault, having a rare night away from our children only to struggle to sleep due to children running around late at night and then being woken early by the same issue was far from ideal.
Overall, we felt genuinely sad and disappointed. As avid hotel-goers, this isn’t somewhere we’d rush to return to. To add to that, we were never informed of the check out time and had to take a chance on it

Excellent facilities with superb staff
Pros:

As a previous member of the Village Hotel in Swansea, my partner and I changed to Cardiff and it was a change worth making. The Village Hotel in Cardiff has some of the nicest, friendliest staff you could ever meet.

Particular mention has to go to Donna on reception. She immediately makes you feel welcome; she would be ideal in training younger members of staff on reception with the same enthusiasm that she has.

Next, the lifeguards in the pool are very friendly, always saying hello and thanks & goodbye. It makes a huge difference.

I believe the Bar & Grill is the heartbeat of the hotel. Many of the staff here are superb. The manager, Beth, is outstanding. She is so warm, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Other worthy staff members here are Christian, Matt and Rachel. Christian and Matt are the nicest guys you could meet and Rachel is so charming and lovely.

I thoroughly enjoy my visits to Cardiff Village Hotel, the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and then the Bar & Grill.

I can't praise the staff enough especially those I've mentioned by name. Outstanding.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM OR HEALTH CLUB
Pros:

⭐️ 1/5 – Not worth the money

Village Cardiff Gym has gone seriously downhill. It is chronically overcrowded, poorly managed, and badly maintained.

The gym floor is regularly a mess with weights, bags, and bottles left everywhere, creating clear safety hazards. Changing rooms and showers are filthy — wet floors, broken lockers, damaged shower doors, mouldy soap dispensers, and non-working hairdryers are the norm.

The spa facilities are neglected. The sauna is often out of order and deteriorating, the steam room barely works, and the hot tub temperature is inconsistent and poorly controlled. Poolside is chaotic, cluttered, and unsafe.

Children’s swim sessions are badly managed, making it almost impossible to swim safely at many times.

Despite repeated complaints from members, nothing improves. Staff are helpful, but management clearly does not invest or listen.

This is no longer a premium gym and absolutely does not justify the membership cost. I would strongly advise people to look elsewhere.

Avoid Room 168
Pros:

Room 168 was extremely disruptive as I was kept awake for most of the night by members of staff repeatedly using the door and stairs next to the room. Banging on walls, slamming doors and talking loudly from around 10.30pm onwards. This then started again from around 5.30am onwards which was particularly frustrating as I had to be up early the previous day and had a full day's work. Any chance of rest was further disrupted when I was woken again at 7.30am by a cleaner outside the room with a trolly full of clean sheets. Overall, the level of noise was not appreciated and had significant impact on my stay

I went down for breakfast at 7:40am and waited to be seated. After getting some toast and a coffee while I waited for a hot breakfast, I found there were hardly any hot items available—no hash browns, eggs, or bacon. Only mushrooms, scrambled egg, and sausage. I waited about 20 minutes, but no additional hot food appeared. I ate my toast, left the coffee as it was awful, and ended up going to Starbucks for a decent decaf latte instead.

Upon checking out, there was no customer service at all—no “good morning,” no asking whether I’d had a nice stay, nothing. At breakfast, there was no greeting either; just a blunt “What’s your room number?” It seemed like an effort for the three members of staff who were chatting behind the bar. I wasn’t shown to a table and ended up wandering around trying to find a clean one that hadn’t already been used.

Awful Gym
Pros:

Been a member at the gym for the last couple of years, put prices up every year but no changes just busier and busier. Healthy and safety risk the pool and the gym. Have to queue for equipment and machines always. Nightmare to try and cancel your membership. Not worth the money!!!!

Decent enough.
Pros:

Decent stay. Comfortable and clean room with all the basics you need. Decent food for evening meal and a decent breakfast too.

It’s quite a busy hotel though so felt quite noisy throughout the evening and not the earliest of nights as a result.
