Winchester Break
Pros:

The staff were all helpful and on arrival one particular receptionist, Shelly, was very helpful then, and later on.

Cons:

We had a problem straight away as the toilet flush was not working.
We informed reception and they said whilst we were out they would send maintenance in. Unfortunately, on our return the problem had not been solved. We were given the choice of a further room and so we were quite happy, albeit a little tired repacking and moving.
Overall the matter was resolved quickly and efficiently and did not impact the good experience we had there.

Great Hotel in good location
Pros:

The location was great. The restaurant and bar pretty good.

Cons:

The first night the bedroom was far to hit and we found we couldn't change this. But, the hotel sorted it the next day. So all good.

Good enough for one night.
Pros:

My husband, our little Shih Tzu, Lian, and I have been traveling from Cornwall and have stayed at several hotels, but in none of them did we find the friendly smiles and attention of Oakley and Shelley. They were so kind when we left the hotel, quite different from when we arrived. The best things its make by a person. This is the real comfort and luxury.
Another thing we liked it's a dog friendly.

Cons:

The reception/ receptionist when we arrived. The mini bar in the room was not working. The room was cold and was quite a challenge to get it working .

Good facilities, but can't recommend.
Pros:

The hotel reception is quite modern, beautiful, and clean. Facilities and Spa are good.

Cons:

My satisfaction was impacted right away when I first spoke with the receptionist. While I was early for the check-in (~12'ish), the front desk agent gave me the coldest welcome that I've ever had in decades of travelling. Although functional, I expected more from a hotel rated this good on Booking.com.

Notwithstanding, she didn't provide any alternatives for the early check-in. I'm aware this is no obligation, but the couple that arrived after us was able to check in early straight away. They could have had other types of rooms, but it didn't help with my first impression.

Additionally, when I asked about restaurant recommendations for having lunch in Winchester, she simply said, "It depends on the type of food you want; go to the high street and you will find plenty of options.”

Finally, when I was able to check in, the room seemed to be smaller and older than the ones in the photos. Additionally, the mirror surface on the side bed had rust stains, as well as the bathroom doors and shower head.
To conclude, the hotel's event space is very noisy, and the party sound was quite audible until about 11 p.m.

I believe I'm just getting older and grumpier, but I expected way more from a hotel rated this good at Booking. I only recommend it if you want to use the spa; don't book it if you're looking for peace and a comfy room. Did I also mention that TV was positioned on the side, not in front of the bed? Yeah, I can go on and on...

Pros:

Hotel is in a stunning area and overall staff are very pleasant

Cons:

I had originally asked for a birthday hamper to be made for my partner, this was confirmed by the hotel. Upon arrival I was informed they no longer did hampers and did not explain this to me ahead of arrival.

Additionally we were put in a room in the furthest part of the hotel despite it not being busy, we then had to ask to be moved.
