Hospitality. Staff from the frontdesk, cleaners, and technical staffs were nice and helpful, performing well in crisis.
Old building old facilties. Dirty bath tub. During my stay there was major techinical issues. A water pipe burst and flooded the lift causing lift to be nonfunctioning. Only 1 lift working the next day, causing delay and difficulty to move up and down. Kudos to staff that gave us room replacement at 1am after we asked. I hope the hotel management did better for the maintenance.
The location is good, nearby famous eating spot and malls.
A go-to hotel for my parents whenever they visit Penang. Walking distance to the hospital and gurney since they can't really use Google Maps.

This is a grand old hotel, with high ceilings and quality furniture, but quite obviously from a different era. Because of that, it's not without its problems, but the friendly and helpful staff moved swiftly to make things better. A nice restaurant with a good all-round breakfast - shame it was vegetarian restaurant !
The bathroom was tired with a colour scheme from the 90's and a shower over the bath. It had the appearance of being dirty due to badly stained grout tiles and a wooden door that was almost rotten. It also had a dysfunctional wash basin plug which kept jamming leaving a basin full of used water. The view from the window was mostly of the back of a scruffy neighbouring tower block. When I checked the pictures of the bathroom and window view as advertised with booking.com, they simply didn't match the standard I was led to believe I was expecting for a superior double room. I complained to the management on my first full day and was moved swiftly to a room which represented the advertised pictures. 6 hours later the water to that room and a number of other rooms was shut off for almost 24 hours. I complained again about the mass inconvenience and was moved a second time, now upgraded to a junior suite as a peace offering. Whilst checking the advertised pictures of the room I had selected with booking.com, I noticed that the price for the 7 days that I had reserved was being offered at £231. Having paid £325 on the previous day, I was mortified and wrote a complaint to booking,com immediately via the 'contact customer services option' . Sadly, I am yet received a reply.
