This hotel is located right in the centre of Avignon, next to the Palais des Papes and close to other points of interest.
I would give it three solid stars, but not four as classified on Accor's website. The kitchen works only in the mornings offering breakfast, and there is no room service. No slippers or gowns in the room, no iron, no toiletries except soap and shower gel.
Besides, our actual room differed from its description in the booking. We did have a mini bar (a small fridge), but it was empty. The safe was not large enough to accommodate a laptop, as it was promised.
The air conditioner seemed to live a life of its own, being rather noisy when working. Tea bags were not replenished.
To summarise, it is a good basic hotel with a superb location, but I struggle to call it a four-stars facility.
We had such a wonderful experience at the Mercure Hotel, thanks to Stephanie. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional — always ready to help and make sure we had everything we needed. She truly pampered us and made us feel at home.
Thank you, Stephanie, for your warmth and care. You turned a simple stay into something really special!
Lovely location
Stephanie at the reception was terrific, she was so helpful in assisting us with our final estatement,
This is a hard one to rate….
The pros: Location is impeccable. Right along the city walls by the Palais des Papes. Easy parking underneath, and easy to come and go if you are driving around the area.
Service was excellent. Giorgio at the front desk knew us a day after checking us in and took care of getting some items up to the room. Exceptionally helpful and welcoming
So why only three stars? The Cons: The hotel is definitely in need of a refresh. The hallway carpet was badly stained. The bed was exceptionally firm and I slept poorly. If the price is right and you value the location…it’s a reasonable choice. But don’t expect much other than good service and location.
The friendliest staff! Nothing is too much, and they are just marvellous.
Bed: good bed, linen etc as at Mercure - the room looks as though it may be halfway through refurb
Bath: good strong rain shower, separate toilet in a v small room which was unusual
Breakfast: good continental range
Great facility and great location.
Idéalement placé
We had two excellent nights at this hotel. Close to everything and wonderful staff. Great restaurant directly across from hotel. Parking is convenient but expensive.
No
Poor breakfast, stained carpet in rooms, noisy with room doors banging and you could hear clearly people talk in corridor, average cleanliness. Complained first day of flying moths in room but hot no response. After my insistence they promised to clean the room.
This is a perfect location to see the main sights in Avignon. The room was spotless and had a separate toilet to the shower room which was a nice touch. The staff were incredibly helpful at all times, including when we needed a fix with the air conditioning late in the evening. The air conditioning was great. There are many spots nearby to eat. The shower had good pressure. Would stay here again.
Located in the heart of the Palace of the Popes, near great dining by exploring side streets off the main thoroughfare, helpful staff. Good value for the money.
The location is great, next to the Palais des Papes. However I was expecting something a little more upscale based on brand, location and price.
A perfect hotel
A great hotel that is well located, with tourist attractions and restaurants nearby. Rooms were comfortable and clean, breakfast selection was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Valentine who organised a late night medical appointment for us.
Well located hotel within easy walk of the main sights of the City and also to the various squares of bars and restaurants.
Easy and convenient parking underneath the hotel at a reasonable rate for 24 hours. I would maybe find an out of town option for longer stays.
Rooms were clean and tidy.
Would use this hotel again.
Nice location right next to all the main attractions of Avignon which makes it super convenient.
Perfect location, friendly staff
We had the one room in the hotel that has a large terrace directly overlook the Palais Des Papas. The rooms are standard basic Mercure stuff but the location is unbeatable. Centre of old town Avignon, everything within walking distance.
This hotel is clearly on the coach tour circuit so it is regularly full of groups with lots of baggage.
Staff were very helpful.
The one niggle with our room was that ,very dangerously, if you pull the door to the terrace closed it locks you out of your room. We managed to walk down the emergency stairs and get reception to let us back into the room.
The price was reasonable but I don’t understand why Mercure use such mean thin towels and don’t provide face washers.
