Overrated, throw back to the 1990's. Rooms were terrible.
This stay was just a night towards the end of a road trip around Europe but it was the worst night of the extended holiday (and not the cheapest night by far). The communal areas are pretty flash but the rooms were dreadful. The first room we were given smelled of drains (which the staff were clearly already aware of when I queried it). The huge windows on the fourth floor rooms opened fully, despite a bed being next to them, which I’ve never seen on my travels and is a clear health and safety issue with children. The next room we were given was far smaller but did not smell and was on the ground floor so the windows were not a concern. However it was cramped and the only overhead lighting was from a ceiling lamp which did not give sufficient light and had a cable that draped across the sofa bed. The breakfast was pleasant but the overall stay was disappointing and not worthy of the Mercure brand. We did not get any refund for the lower standard room compared to what we booked.
The hotel exists purely because of the INSEAD Business School and the fact that students of the school require accommodation, which is scarce in the city. Hence, the Mercure is a busy hotel but instead of at least to try to please its international guests, the hotel management seems to prefer to run a mediocre hotel. Rooms are poor and that is a pleasing description! There are no shelves in the cupboard, the towels are worn and thin, beds are uncomfortable and the TV programs are all French. The 'restaurant' if you wish to call it that, serves mediocre breakfast and a poor lunch / dinner menu - a shame for France, who claim to be a somewhat culinary country. Overall, there is nothing good to be said about this hotel so try and avoid it!
Nice pool area and tennis court.
The room was air conditioned and comfy and we especially enjoyed the Pool area and the Cold Water refill machine. The staff were polite and sorted things without fuss. There is a lovely green area to sit in the evenings or have lunch in the shade. The only downside for us was the food options. It was a pretty limited menu, expensive for the portion size and there were no real lunch type options or snack options luck sandwiches. It was the same menu all day. The food was okay but we recommend venturing out into the town to eat.
User friendly and hospitable. I would stay again if I’m back
A couple of things disappointed us. First the mattress cover under the sheet was awful and meant that you stuck to it through the sheet we have stayed in many lower star rated hotels and never had this problem and can only think it was a really poor quality item. Secondly our charcuterie board that we ordered for lunch came with butter but we weren’t offered any bread ?
The room and furniture quality are not great... The hotel does not meet the standards of a 4* hotel.
Good location. Very close to Insead and 10-15 minutes walk to the city. Rooms towards entrance/ little road are very quiet. Outside area pleasant to sit in the evening.
However:
- Hotel needs renovation, rooms very dated and not up to par: Claustrophobic shower in bath tub, window can only be fully opened, blanket too warm for this time of year, carpet has not been replaced in a long time.
- Breakfast setup confusing with cartridge coffee machines
- Staff friendly but seemed bit disorganized on check out
- Key cards declined to function on a couple of occasions so had to go down to reception to regain access
- Price level quite steep for what you get
Very nice well located boutique hotel super great staff
Top notch boutique hotel great ambiance and atmosphere and super great staff - loved it !!!
