Clean but dated hotel
Pros:

Stayed here over a long weekend. The hotel was clean but a bit outdated in the room. The lobby area and breakfast area are very small so when larger groups of people show up it can be hard to move around. There is plenty of parking around the building and I never had any issue finding a spot to park in even during a busy holiday.

The location is just a few minute drive from Downtown Portsmouth but it is not within walking distance.

I wanted time to myself to explore the area, and I wanted a nice accommodation. More than satisfied.
Pros:

The room was comfortable/cool. Housekeeping refreshed my room every day. Staff were friendly. No one bothered me.

Warm, clean, comfortable, quiet one night stay

The dirtiest place to stay

Cons:

There was something all over one of the beds that looked like blood the cleaner had to of seen it ... And the ac was terrible it was 90 outside and 70in the room.. They offered me another room but I was so grossed out I wanted to leave I asked for a refund and they refused took my number said a manager would call me they never did... I will never be back non will I ever stay at a howard Johnsons again

Think twice
Pros:

Ok rate for the pre-summer season. Check-in person not really liking is job and seems to be away from the desk quite a bit and guest left because of the long wait. Shower adjustment valve kept moving to the hot water side and had to be held manually so that the water was not too hot. Also found the rear emergency exit locked which is a big no, no!

Would stay again!
Pros:

We had our choice of 2 juices, breakfast sandwiches, cereal and bread product. Wonderful…like that it was not all sweets for breakfast! It was clean and stocked. Check was painless with Oliver! He greeted us with enthusiasm and a smile! Check, again…2 men at the desk, were very polite and pleasant!

Cons:

Possibly some fresh fruit could have been offered.
