I would not recommend to stay at Deer Lodge at all. The hotel is just super expensive, even for the location near Lake Louise! The room are more than old and stinky and the deposit is extrem high as well.
Walking distance to Lake Louise. Strict check-in time. Hotel was decent and clean.
Restaurant server was dishonest.
Very easy and painless process to check in and out, friendly and knowledgeable service staff. A fantastic location that rivals the Chateau Lake Louise in context of cost vs. value. It's a historic lodge that has a lot of personality.
Staff was helpful and friendly - I locked myself out at 1am and they were helpful in helping me get back into my room.
Updated information on the website would have been helpful for making the booking. The hot tub and restaurant were closed during the time of our stay but nothing was listed on the website regarding these closers. The restaurant should also be taken off of Open Table as you can still book a table. A family of 5 showed up for their dinner reservation, we just happened to be sitting in the lounge outside the restaurant and had to tell them it was closed. Very poor communication around all the amenities available during the time of our stay.
We stopped by Deer Lodge code the years when visiting Lake Louise for our meals and weee impressed with the food quality and the rustic ambiance. Hence, we picked it as the hotel to stay for our 41st wedding anniversary celebration, the protest sent us emails suggesting us to try out the restaurants and meals as recent as a couple of days before our arrival and we planned to do just that. You could imagine the disappointment we had when we checked in that the Restaurants were all closed. Why would they not provided forewarning when we booked and why they kept sending email to promote their restaurants for our stay?
Book the restaurant online and the restaurant at th hotel was close even for breakfast. Hard to found somewhere else to go without a reservation.
Front desk informed us upon check in that this property is closing in 10 days for 2 years of renovations, no restaurant or food on site for such a remote location, made it uncomfortable. Property Updates definitely required but a heads up would have been nice.
Don't waste your money or time. Not worth it. Location is close to the Lake which is nice but the hotel was meh. Nothing worked- hot tub, ice machine, etc. Restaurant and bar were closed too. You pay for the location and that is it. I think it's cheaper to take a shuttle to the lake and stay at a nicer hotel nearby.
Wonderful historic lodge with great architectural features, but poorly run. Breakfast was included in room rate, but they shut the restaurant down and made no accommodation for those breakfasts or offered a discount to make up for it.
Can’t beat the location for proximity to Lake Louise without the prices of the Fairmont. Property does have a games/music room and the late night drumming made it hard to sleep at 11pm. Food was ok.
We liked the character of the building.
It was a shame that there were no restaurant or bar facilities open for the fall season. Therefore lack of atmosphere around the lodge. Old accommodation but very functional and well appointed. Enjoyed our stay - but it could have been better.
Stayed here last night before returning home, lovely location and enjoyed beautiful relaxing evening on balcony outside restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful at check in. Excellent facilities and options for dining.
Great location.. good value
Nice room for deluxe king room. View was good and room was modern
Only dowmfall was breakfast … limited food not replenished … no service from staff
Dinner was delicious and staff were really good
It was at a convenient location. Very basic hotel to just sleep. They did not have any dining services on site even though I received messages from them stating that the dining devices on site would be available. Walls are thin and you can hear everything in the hallways and neighboring rooms.
Location is perfect, with only a 5min walk to Lake Louise. The staff at front desk & breakfast restaurant always looked miserable & everything was an effort. The amenities were poor - ice machine out of order, vending machines switched off, hot tub on top deck closed for maintenance. The room needed a fridge, so important when traveling for several days to have your own food and drinks cold. No tv in rooms. After sightseeing for the day, its nice to be able to feel like you are at home with a cold drink and put on the tv for a bit of downtime. The room was always kept clean and tidy.
Deer Lodge is in a great location. It’s an easy walk to the lakeside and has an historic role in the development of this area. Sadly, it’s owned by a resort organisation that’s taken the business decision to stop investing in the property and it will be converted to staff accommodation from November 2023. Therefore, we recommend that any prospective guest adjusts their expectations. The halls are gloomy, poorly lit and have linoleum floors. Rooms have no tv. Breakfast is advertised as starting at 7:00am, but during our stay staff were arriving at this time! Guests lined up waiting for the modest buffet to open and it was not fully functional until 7:25am. If you have a choice, stay elsewhere. The owners of this property are not committed to you as a guest and while the young staff are trying hard, this hotel is on its last legs
It’s just amazing ♥️
Wifi and breakfast definitely adds a lot of convenience. < 10 minutes walk to Lake Louise.
