Personable and quiet boutique hotel
Pros:

I tend to prefer quiet, small hotels when I travel solo and the Portobello was exactly what I needed for a short stay in London. I booked a Good Room and assumed from past London hotel experience it would be tiny, but it actually felt quite spacious for a solo traveler and the decor was really thoughtful and lovely. My only note is that despite the room itself feeling spacious, the bathroom was very tiny. I’m 5’7” and anyone closer to 6’ might have a hard time maneuvering in it.

I also wanted to shout out the duty manager Diana, who was a huge help when I realized I left my passport and jewelry roll in my room safe. I was already in my next city but she held them for a friend of mine to pick up later that day. I might not have had the same luck/care from a bigger hotel chain so I really appreciated it!

The location is close to the main stretch of Portobello Road but tucked onto a quieter residential street which was perfect for me. Very walkable but still tranquil.

Perfect.
Pros:

Super position dans la ville. Des détails très qualitatifs dans les chambres toutes différentes et soignées. C’est la deuxième fois mais je l’ai déjà élu mon hôtel dans Londres !

A wonderful room but be warned
Pros:

First, the good: while small in scale, the hotel is a throwback to an earlier time when travel was exotic and people sent post cards. The lobby, which Phileas Fogg would have recognized, hinted at what was to come: a “marvelous room” with late 19th century comforts and a heavy Indian influence. With no TV and modest by sufficient lighting, our room dropped us into an Indiana Jones adventure. The highlight was the antique bathroom fixtures. Such fun! The staff were wonderful, helpful, and everything you would want. Top marks, all.

Now the only bad, and this is simply how the room was marketed. Advertised as one of five Marvelous Rooms, four of which overlook beautiful gardens and one on a lower floor with a patio. Despite having made our reservation months in advance, we were given the lower floor. No garden view? Ok, we were warned but the website said nothing about the room’s windows being totally blocked by a wall that stood barely two feet away. And this “lower floor” appeared to be the building’s basement with the patio being a small table and chairs with no view and barely enough space for two (partially due to the AC compressor within arm’s reach that’s loud and blows cold air on you).

So be warned. While the room itself may be a comfortable and fun break from the big chains and their cookie cutter rooms, be ready for the possibility of indirect sunlight and loud compressor noise.

Soak up the atmosphere !
Pros:

Such an atmospheric ‘boutique hotel’ in such an atmospheric location. We chose a ‘good’ room … it turned out to be a fantastic room with views from the dormer windows over the private common gardens below, which were in full bloom. We were only in London for 30 hours and enjoyed a great stay wandering around Notting Hill and Kensington High Street and Kensington Gardens. Easily access to and from Paddington Station (Heathrow Express).

Cons:

Unfortunately hotel guests don’t have access to the private Stanley Street gardens.

Perfect Location, Top-Notch Hospitality
Pros:

I stayed at the Portobello Hotel in London for two nights and loved it. The staff, especially Dwight and Thomas, made me feel welcome and cared for, which is very important to me as a solo female traveler. I’ve stayed at several hotels in London and have never felt “at home” like I did here. The hotel is situated on a quiet street walking distance from the Portobello Market and just a few minutes by car to Paddington Station. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing stay in Room 16 at Portobello Hotel, full of historic and cultural charm—thank you for the attentive serv
Pros:

I had an amazing stay in Room 16 at Portobello Hotel, perfectly situated on Portobello Road—ideal for exploring Notting Hill and all its charm! The room was immaculately clean, beautifully styled and so cozy, with every little detail taken care of to make the stay truly comfortable. A huge thank you to the incredible staff for their exceptional service: they graciously allowed me to store my luggage at the hotel, even though I wasn’t checking in for the following day. This thoughtful, flexible gesture made my travel plans so much smoother and stress-free, and it really made my trip to London that much better. The team were warm, friendly and always happy to assist with local tips too. I highly recommend Portobello Hotel and will absolutely return on my next visit to the city! Grateful for such a lovely experience 😊
