Clarks Shiraz, Agra is admittedly an old property, combining old world charm and courtesy with modern day efficiency, though some may find issue with the dated decor. Perhaps, some attention also needs be paid to bathroom drainage, which is a wart in an otherwise wonderful stay.
The staff is polite and gracious and never gave cause to feel any shortcoming in service and care.
The grounds are huge and well-maintained. The complimentary breakfast is extensive and satisfying. Special mention must be made of the bacon here and I speak as one great lover of this primarily breakfast cut.
Both our dinners were had at the Mughal Room. It was the delectable Kachhi Gosht Biryani on the first and Nalli Nihari the next evening. For a diehard foodie, it was a marvellous experience. Special mention must be made of Mr.Bhoori Singh who took great care of us, making our dining experience most memorable.
Nice pool and room
Congested breakfast room
Réception poor and indifferent maybe even a little unwelcoming
Courteous service and cleanliness that you don't encounter every day in India.
Diva and jalal and unnati and every one.
The customer service was amazing and comfortable.Thank you so much.
I'm learning quickly that 4/5 star hotels in India aren't the same as in other countries.
This is an old style hotel, so although it is somewhat grand in some parts, there are some bits that are outdated and should be improved. For example it's advertised as sound proofed rooms but the windows are old, not double glazed and you can hear a lot of the noise. The spa is old, and honestly feels quite run down and you can hear all the noise outside. It offers no tranquility or peace (which is generally what spas are about!).
Overall it's an ok hotel but it's not 5 star. The service on the most part is good but we had problems.
1. Check in - we went to reception and there were 3 people at the desk and no one said a word to us. Eventually someone started checking us in and they disappeared for a while and we didn't know what was going on. She eventually came back, gave us our keys and then said a lady will take us to our room. The lady took us to the elevator and just pressed the floor and stepped out. We'd received ZERO information about the hotel, breakfast, the facilities, WiFi etc. I asked the lady who stepped out and she couldn't respond. We walked back to reception and I asked them why they haven't provided us with any information and she said sorry I'll do it now. But why not in the first place?! Eventually we went to the room and it was 2 single beds. We'd booked through a tour company and every room had been large doubles so I assumed it was a mistake. I asked the lady what had been booked and she said a large double, so I asked why they hadn't given us a large double and she couldn't respond. They changed our room and the porter raved about how good the room was and that you could see the Taj Mahal. He opened the curtain and it was fully covered by trees - he didn't know what to say. All we saw was lots of construction work down below and trees. 2 mins later we found a sweet on the floor (in a very obvious place) and dirt. At this point I went back down and asked to speak to a manager. He then somewhat upgraded us to a deluxe room on the other side of the floor where we were fine with the room. But by this point they've already ruined the stay.
2. Reception - The next day I asked for a second key. The same lady who we dealt with on check in promised me it would work as I explained we had issues at a previous hotel where 1 key kept deactivating. I went up to the room, it didn't work. When you've already gone through the above, this just adds to it. I had to go back down, sort it out and a porter came with me to make sure it worked. I also went to reception to find out about the spa facilities. A man told me to go to another counter, where at first no one was there. Then a man came, didn't say anything to me and looked blankly. 2 mins later he asked me if I needed anything and I asked for the spa menu and he couldn't understand and he told me to go back to the first desk. I went back, and the first person I spoke to said sorry the spa menu wasn't there. But why didn't he tell me that's what he sent me to that counter for in the first place?! And why did he send me to an empty counter, and why didn't the second man say anything to me? I honestly just don't expect this sort of service at a 5 star hotel.
3. Spa - I've already mentioned the spa is old and run down. It has no ambience, there's no music, all you can hear is loud noise outside from the street or construction. They offered no water after a 15 minute steam, which considering how dehydrating that can be, I would have expected in a 5 star hotel. The lady didn't ask me whether I had any issues that she needed to be aware of. She didn't tell me she was going to start or what she was going to do, she literally climbed onto the massage bed, sat in between my knees and started. I was so startled! She was extremely rough, no care in how she picked up my feet, legs, arms etc. It's like she was trying to speed through it all. She kept asking me throughout the massage how it was and each time I said good but you're being rough. She didn't change anything but she kept asking - highly annoying! I have never had a spa experience like this, especially after having a massage in Goa 2 weeks prior and it being wonderful! I would not recommend this spa, for the entire experience. The massage was ok but I don't think it's worth the price for what you get overall.
The only thing that stood out for me was the service we received from Sunil (the porter). He was on hand during all the mishaps at check in and with our key, and he made our experience much better. He was kind, helpful and just understood that we were getting some rubbish service from others. He recommended us a place to go for dinner which we really enjoyed. He always asked us if we needed anything, and it was always service with a smile despite being tired with some long shifts! We ended up becoming friends with him and I'm glad we did. I wish him all the best for the future (and I hope he manages to visit the Taj Mahal one day!)! If you do stay here I highly recommend asking for him if you ever need any help. Thank you Sunil for your kindness and helpfulness!
Service for me is really important especially when you're spending the money for it. If this doesn't matter to you, then this hotel will be absolutely fine especially given it's proximity to the Taj Mahal and Red Fort.
All the staff were courteous and friendly, the room was spotless, and the food at the restaurant was excellent—the best biryani I’ve ever had. A special mention goes to Sunil at the restaurant and Divya at the breakfast buffet, who made the experience truly memorable.
A very memorable and beautiful hotel.
The hotel was clean, bed was comfortable, and the room was quite large. Decor was a little dated, and the buffet was a bit limited, but all in all it was quite decent.
On an additional note, my wife left behind some clothing when we left for Jaipur. Clarks Shiraz was very accommodating and helpful in remedying the situation. They found the clothing and coordinated with our tour director to get them back to her with a minimum of fuss. Thank you for working with us to handle this situation.
The hotel was in a state of disrepair and required significant cleaning. The rooms were unpleasant with a strong odour, dirty curtains and lamp shades. The bathroom was similarly unsanitary and the brown old furniture was sticky from dirt. The water bottles were obviously reused, didn’t dear to drink the water. The screw tops were not sealed/new, just reused and dirty, bend. The carpets in the corridors /hallway very smelly. AC didn’t work. Despite the hotel’s 5-star rating, I would rate it 2 stars.
This hotel offered a wonderful stay experience with excellent service and attention to detail. The hospitality of the staff stood out the most—they were professional, courteous, and attentive throughout my stay. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and hassle-free. A great choice for anyone looking for quality service and a pleasant stay.
Bardzo wygodne łóżko! Szeroki wybór bufetu podczas śniadań i kolacji.
Zamknięty basen
We arrived very tired at this hotel on our second stop of our “Golden Triangle Tour”. It was also was New Years Eve. The hotel had a big party and had a fantastic buffet to send off 2025. The hotel had some history and our room was a little dated. The pool was closed and getting renovated and I hope the games room gets an upgrade too. Staff were nice and food service was quick. Enjoyed our stay but would I go back? Probably not. 5 star hotel, it is not.
Manoj and Divya are marvelous in work and services. I am so happy and also my group satisfied with food and service.
