The location is good - only a 15-20 minute drive to Bayeau. We stayed in a 1st floor suite. The room needed a total remodel, other than the bathroom which was updated. The shower water pulsed hot and cold and the pressure would go up and down. This hotel is rather remote and after touring all day it would have been nice to sit in a comfy area and relax; in fact, this is a necessity due to the remoteness. Our room did not have a sofa and the two chairs in the room were not made for comfort. The chateau has only one small community 'living room' in need of remodel, and it is cold and the furniture uncomfortable. Also, it is in a rather small area that people walk through to get to their rooms or the restaurant, so not an area where you would want to relax. The bar was lovely but never saw an attendant in the four nights we were there. We were surprised that considering the colder fall weather that not one fireplace was ablaze. The staff were made to dress in colonial type attire that was not appropriate for an upscale establishment. We ate at both restaurants, and the food and service were very good; though breakfast was a little sad. You won't find fresh homemade pastries or a nice buffet spread here. The concierge service was friendly and helpful, but other than that, we felt we just had place to sleep. The concierge booked us for 2 days Normandy touring with Franck and he was incredible! A walking encyclopedia. Thank you Sebastien! Overall, this was not the kind of impression we expected from a Relais & Chateau property. We stayed at La Ferme Saint Simeon in Honfleur right before we came here and it was night and day!!!
The grounds are stunning and the hotel has great proximity to the D Day beaches. However the rooms were a significant disappointment. It is clear that our room (a suite) and the common areas have not been updated in decades. While some may call that quaint, it is simply the result of underinvestment. Honestly our bedroom was the darkest of any hotel room I can remember - we used our phones for illumination to pack before our departure. I’m not sure what photographic tricks were used to portray the property on the website. The bathroom, the only area of our suite to be ‘updated’ had an undersized pedestal sink, no privacy door for the toilet and water that pulsed from scalding to frigid with cycles of the dutiful (and audible) electric heat pump. The furniture was likely 40 years old and shared the style with the otherwise nice bar. The internet was spotty at best.
We had two dinners at the bistro/bar - both very good. They try hard to commit you to dinner in the formal restaurant, but we had previously overindulged so declined.
Conclusion: 5 stars are relative. This hotel would be 3 in Paris. Manage your expectations. And to the hotel: please invest. I can’t imagine it would cost that much to bring the aesthetics current to match the lovely exterior setting.
This place is amazing! The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Our service from all of the staff was excellent. The top meal we had in France was at their restaurant, Le Seran.
You cannot go wrong staying here.
A beautiful, elegant unique hotel experience. Highly professional and accommodating staff, gorgeous property, lovely meals and remarkably peaceful. Could not be better or more unique.
The most heartfelt warm welcome ever experienced. The presence of the hotel manager was very much appreciated, leading by example is the way to go! Overall a feeling of being at home, although a little effort at improving the interior decorating would be nice. We definitely will be back.
At the price everything needs to be perfect, it wasn't.
- Service in the Bistro was friendly but slow. We waited two hours for a starter and a main course. We cancelled dessert because it was so slow.
- We went to the Bar for a coffee in the afternoon, but had to call reception after 15 minutes to find someone to serve us.
- We needed to ask reception for more toilet paper even though the turn down service had just visited the room.
- I expected a much grander room for the price.
- Who charges 6 Euros per bottle of filtered (not mineral) water?
We spent three incredible days at Château d’Audrieu with close friends, and honestly, it was everything we hoped for and more. The staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and the whole place has this quiet elegance that makes you feel instantly at ease.
Our rooms were beautiful, and the bedding? So comfortable we didn’t want to get up in the morning.
The food was a highlight. Chef Samuel Gasper is amazing—his dishes were creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We had dinner at Le Séran Restaurant and Le 1715 Chill & Eat, and both were fantastic in their own way.
It was the kind of trip that leaves you feeling refreshed and grateful. We’re already talking about going back.
The property is lovely, the rooms well appointed with the exception of a small refrigerator. Dinner at the 1715 was lovely but a bit austere. However our last interaction with staff left us very disappointed. We were double charged at checkout. When we verified this with our credit card online while still working with the staff member, we were told it would be adjusted automatically. When we asked for verification or a staff member able to help, we were told that was all she could do. Of course, we were double charged and now have to dispute with our credit card company. It was a disappointing way to end our stay and left a lasting negative impression.
Exceptional experience. Traveling as a family with a toddler and a baby and they too enjoyed their time at the Chateau. Service was great and always friendly. The kids enjoyed visiting the donkeys in the property, the playground, and the trails - for which we were provided with boots in the lobby and even saw wildlife during our walk. The property is impeccably maintained, simply stunning to be in, and the rooms are comfortable and well provisioned. The location of the chateau is very convenient to visit other Normandy attractions, including Mt. St. Michel and the landing beaches. The food was delicious. We had breakfast at the hotel daily where Mattiled greeted us with a smile. We also tried Le Seran - do not miss this restaurant - where we enjoyed a Michelin-level dining experience. Adrian's service during our dinner was simply perfect. In sum, highly recommend the property and would absolutely stay here when back in the region.
The property is very beautiful, and the rooms are well kept, beds comfortable, great accommodations. We were not happy with the more casual restaurant for dinners, service was very slow.
Great location and beautiful property. They seemed understaffed and the staff was stressed and out of breath and dismissive. I had two children in strollers and requested a bottom floor, they asked if there was another accommodation I would like even though they were fully booked. There was children’s bikes advertised as an amenity which they did not have available and the man seemed very confused when asked about it. I would stay here again for the convenience and size of the rooms, but without the expectation that I could rely on high quality service or children’s amenities.
This Chateau is beautiful, serene and very relaxing! We really enjoyed staying here. Thank you to Sebastian, the concierge who makes sure EVERYTHING you need is received in a very timely manner. Another thanks to Leopold in the Bar Restaurant. So accommodating and friendly. The food was amazing and the service even better! Would highly recommend staying here when you visit Normandy. The best!
I’ve stayed here twice. The first time was during a group trip. The second I entered the property I knew I would return with my wife for our 20th wedding anniversary. We did, and could not have been more pleased. There’s something almost intangible about the place. There’s a familiarity about it that makes me feel at home across the globe. The beauty, history, and peacefulness is matchless. The staff is exemplary. We wish we could have stayed an entire month.
We stayed at the Chateau for 5 nights in April. The building and grounds are beautiful along with the gardens . The rooms are well appointed, quiet and comfortable. Cleaning / fresh amenities and turn down services were a bit spotty. The included breakfast was fresh and plentiful with a great staff that was friendly and efficient.
Keep in mind that you will be at a distance from most attractions in the area, like Bayeaux, the WW2 historical sites including the Caen Museum. I would suggest pre arranged tours. If you need transportation, the staff will arrange for you but please follow-up as we had some issues when they " forgot" to call, almost missing our train.
Additionally, you may want to make dinner reservations in Caen or Bayeaux if you don't want to eat at either of the two restaurants at the Chateau. Le Saran ( their main restaurant) is very good but closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and they typically don't change the menu more than weekly. The alternative is their 1715 bar with more of casual menu. Both can be on the more expensive side.
There is some great history here and this inn has allot of potential but I think they need to upgrade the involvement and numbers of their staff .
The chateau is impressive and has a historic WWII story, but it is remote so if you don't have a car, you are limited to eating at the hotel. Due to the remote location, they have a hard time hiring staff so be prepared for a 3-4 hour dinner (even eating in the bar).
We had an amazing time at the Chateau d'Audrieu. In addition to the location and the building which are great, the team was very nice, the service outstanding and the food -both at the bar and at the restaurant - was absolutely stunning. We also had an incredible and unique experience in staying in the tree room, 15 metres above the ground in a beautiful wooden bedroom very comfortable. We did experience the unique feeling of having a shower or a drink or sleeping in the trees, among the birds! Truly a moving and amazing feeling. Thank you very much to the staff, we will certainly come back
Pictures of the lovely Chateau accurately describe it. What they don’t show is the fabulously warm and inviting staff who can’t do enough to assist guests. They are all exceptionally well trained and thoroughly professional. Likewise, the kitchen and bar staff and servings are outstanding. You won’t be disappointed staying at Chateau d’Audrieu.
Chateau d'Audrieu is truly an exceptional property. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was to die for and we really enjoyed dining at the restaurant in The Bar. The location was very convenient for exploring Normandy. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. We highly recommend staying at Chateau d'Audrieu!
What a wonderful 3 night stay we enjoyed. The chateau's staff has to be the nicest we've encountered anywhere in the world. My sister stayed there in July and she said the same thing. Anna checked us in and showed us around - she's just darling, and everyone we encountered was so helpful and pleasant. We had room 30 which had a small entryway, a large sitting room, a large bedroom and two modern bathrooms - one with a tub and one with a shower. The chateau's interior is beautiful, the grounds are lovely and the breakfast buffet was delicious. It was an easy drive to Bayeux, to Caen and to the D-Day beaches. Highly recommend!
