Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay by IHG

Stayed Sat 24 01 26 room 223. Bus group. A/c paid in full prior to travel. By party booking trip. Check in was poor, Staff grumpy at breakfast, our room looked modern and bright. However the room in poor standard of repair shower was poor pressure and tap leaked on sink and room was dirty and bit tight as a family room. Dirty plates at breakfast amoung clean plates. Evidence of insects in toilet. Worse was the email asking to pay bill already paid. NO APOLOGIES for their error.

Brilliant stay with my daughter to visit grandson at University & see Urzila Carson at the Glee Club.
Warm welcome, staff very helpful, room on top floor quiet & very well designed, nice bathroom with shower (although water hot pressure not good & a non slip mat would have been a bonus), all requests were dealt with speedily 👍
Great breakfast, amazing coffee, smiley staff obviously working to clear tables quickly when needed.
Close enough to walk into the centre of Cardiff, lovely walk by the water, Ubers were great 👍
Definitely returning again to see grandson & visit the Glee Club👍

Stayed here for 2 nights, 3 couples. We were a tad worried reading some of the reviews however, thankfully our experience was positive and an enjoyable stay. Firstly, no problem parking (3 cars between us) although it was a Sunday / Monday so that may make a difference. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful on arrival. Room 103, spotless, adequate size and well equipped with an iron and ironing board (not that it was needed ). Bed comfy, absolutely no noise whatsoever.
Breakfast was nice and hot. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Our accessible room had a wet room. The water did not drain very quickly which resulted in the whole floor becoming very wet. Also, the toilet took a lot of flushing to clear. Other than that the room was very convenient, close to the lift. The beds were very comfortable.

Book this and be prepared to be screwed. Booked a King room for Sunday and got a call Saturday night saying they couldn't honour this but promised a 30% discount if I would accept a std double. I accepted this. On arrival room not ready, lift not working and no draught drinks. Charged full amount for king room and called twice on Tuesday to sort this. Promised a manager would call Wednesday and sort this, nothing. They just lie to try to get you to give in. I will contact my Credit Card company now to dispute the payment as HIX Cardiff Bay cannot be trusted. Platinum member and absolutely never been treated like this before.

My partner is NCGI so when we asked for gluten free stuff for breakfast they were more than accommodating

I ask for bucket of ice and they said they don’t give bucket of ice to customers to take it to their bedrooms.
Also I did put on booking that we are staying in their hotel for my daughter’s 11th birthday and they didn’t even say happy to her when we checking in.
Saturday night is expensive I know that but room they give us for family room was very small

Room was clean with a comfortable bed, although not so comfortable pillows, it was also too hot in room despite adjusting the air cond to the lowest setting. The room itself was very noisy, it sounded like you were travelling on an aeroplane all night with 15 minute intervals of loud rumbling (not sure what it was but it kept us awake most of the night). The room was also right next to the lift but on the plus side, it was out of order so we didn't have any additional noise to have to put up with. On the negative side, we'd requested a QUIET room and we'd been put on the 3rd floor meaning a lot of steps to our room....not ideal for someone with chronic lung disease! We did complain to reception and they apologised with no offer of any sort of compensation and said they'd ask maintenance to look into it.
Breakfast was ok, no fried eggs and no jam for the croissants. Also had to wait for cutlery to be replenished before you could to eat.
Our first stay 2 years ago was good but this time was the opposite. We would definitely not return again.

Comfy stay for a good price. A few notable things were that I did find a nail clipping on the carpet when we came into the room. Also, the pillow covers are of a cheaper material which means my face and ears got way hotter through the night than I would on cotton sheets. I liked the firmness of the mattress and the bathroom was spotless, although the tap placement was really awkward as you could not turn it to cold as it clashed with the sink.
Free breakfast was good, the croissants were dry but the warm breakfast elements were tasty and filling.

If you are due to stay here please bear in mind that the lift isn't working. The wifi is very poor. Avoid the water edge walk at night as you will be approached by beggars and druggies. There is a smell of cannabis around the hotel. No beakers in the bathroom. The toilet in our room was so low it was virtually on the floor. Breakfast was good but very busy and not enough staff.

A great short stay hotel. I was impressed by the cleanliness and new bathroom facilities. Superb.

A good solid and reasonably priced hotel with breakfast included. Comfortable but a little stuffy in the room orherwise fine.

Good location, easy parking although wasn't aware of the charge until i checked in. Good choice of breakfast options, both hot and cold. Wound definitely stay again.

When we entered the room there was a double bed and a sofa bed which hadnt been made up. There were no extra sheets to make the sofa bed. We telephoned reception and explained and they made it up during the evening ( we had gone out) but on return we noticed there were only 2 towels for 4 of us. It was midnight and we didnt bother asking.

Hotel was fine. But certain advertised amenities were not working (air conditioning) or not available at all (laundry services advertised in booking but front desk said there were nome).

Location is ok around halfway between the downtown and the docks area. Very walkable.
