Excellent pre/post flight stay.
Pros:

We were delayed groing to the hotel and arrived much later than expected (about 11pm) so weren't able to use our dinner booking or give an opinion on the restaurant apart from breakfast, which was lovely. Perfect poached eggs and friendly service meant we had a great pre- holiday flight stay, even if only short. I would use this hotel again in a heartbeat if flying from Gatwick and wanting to be close to but not on the airport. It's a10-15 minute drive to the terminal and a much nicer way to start a getaway than static at the tired and personality free hotels next to the terminal.

Cons:

Not being able to get there to experience dinner not having time to explore the magnificent house and surroundings.

Lovely staff and nice period building
Pros:

Staff were all charming and friendly and the building is very picturesque

Cons:

The room was a little tired and some of the facilities were poorly maintained. The TV didn't work and there was an electric fire in the room (not needed as it was very hot!) that was lopsided as it only had one set of feet! The view from the room showed a very weedy pond!

For a hotel advertised as luxury it looked a little sad in places and in need of some TLC.
Pros:

Extremely close to my daughter’s house where we were visiting. The charming historical building.

Cons:

Although we were upgraded we were put in an attic room, very hot. The a/c unit was non effective. The bedside lights didn’t work. No fridge.

Exorbitant add ons
Pros:

Room lovely but bedding v hot.

Cons:

I went down to get some bar food only to be told that the kitchen staff had all gone home and there was no food available. I then ordered room service and got sandwiches which at £17 each were very expensive for what they were. Not at all happy about this. Also the reception area was rarely staffed. One of our bedside lights did not work and had to be plugged into a rather too short extension lead. This is supposed to be a luxury hotel. It was more like Fawlty Towers. Dinner and breakfast were fine but the rest of the offering has really deteriorated since I last visited.

Maybe it was once but it’s certainly not 4 star anymore !
Pros:

It is a quiet location and being a listed building it has old English charm if that’s all you want.

Cons:

The photos used on the web site appear to have been taken shortly after the hotel was refurbished and I suspect the hotel may now have different owners. The furniture is now grubby and the garden furniture rusty and some of the parasols broken. The garden isn’t being maintained well and is overgrown. Even some of the uniforms worn by the staff have seen better days. The breakfast room looked like it had been abandoned and even though it was empty we couldn’t sit at a table because they hadn’t been cleaned down. There was very little choice on the small square table for breakfast so we had the cooked breakfast, which was all over cooked. We appreciate the heat wave was exceptional but the room was hot, stuffy and stale and the shower could only be used if you knelt down on your knees !
