While looking at the pics before arrival, I was not overly excited as it looked like an older Hyatt. Came for business meetings. Upon arrival, clean hotel located in a great area, close to so many amenities. The rooms were very spacious and clean. I really liked the layout of the sink and spacious king room. Housekeeping take their job seriously and front desk meet your needs. Breakfast was my only con - same thing served daily and one gets tired if having a longer stay eating the same thing. Overall, I would return and recommend this hotel for your stay. Meeting room coffee served by hotel was great. Pool was currently under construction.
What's the point of Hyatt offering a scheduled checkout if housekeeping comes in the room beforehand????
They clearly don't communicate with their staff because I got the following response: "I apologize for the inconvenience of housekeeping bothering you when you have advised you do not want service. However, we are required to do a daily safety check for all rooms."
Hyatt lost a customer for life; my pregnant wife was in the room.
Tremendous value for the high quality of property.
Breakfast was very good.
There needs to be microwaves in the rooms. We had a kitchenette and there was no microwave. We had to go down to the lobby to heat things up.
Very nice! Clean and well maintained. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Really nice bathroom/shower. Very safe neighborhood.
Friendly staff, great location, excellent breakfast, very clean.
The toilet/shower area of the bathroom were extremely small that made changing and using the facilities challenging for average sized people. If the guest was plus sized it might be a big issue with using the toilet and opening and closing the bathroom door.
Convince
The bed was horrible! I didn’t sleep well at all! My back was so stiff. And when we asked to talk to someone they said a manager will get a hold of me and the never did.
Excellent location
Pricey hotel especially weekend rates. But Sunday thru Wednesday was absolutely doable. Great location, extremely clean.
The bed was uncomfortable
We had a very positive stay at Hyatt Place Kansas City/Overland Park/Convention Center. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming from the moment we arrived. The front desk team was professional, courteous, and helpful throughout our stay, and the housekeeping staff did an excellent job keeping our room clean and comfortable.
The location was convenient, and the overall service exceeded our expectations. We especially appreciated the staff’s attention to detail and commitment to making our stay pleasant. We would gladly stay here again and recommend this hotel to others visiting the area.
The walls are very thin. We could hear the neighbors on either side snoring. And coughing all night.
We loved the staff!! Everyone was so so friendly and sweet! All the fruit on the breakfast menu was delicious! We loved the amount of space we had in the room! Lots of surfaces to use for cosplay and the large couch was great for someone to sleep on! I liked being able to charge additional hotel purchases to our room - very convenient! And we had zero noise issues during our stay!
Our room's AC unit wasn't working well, it got way too cold so we turned it off completely but then it got a bit too hot at night. Would have loved bacon on the breakfast menu and waffles! Donut holes were way too dense and tasted like cardboard. Many of the warm items on the breakfast menu got cold too fast.
The Hyatt brand is great and this hotel was clean staff were friendly but they do not let you control the air-conditioning below 68° which was inconvenient. If I’m paying to stay in a hotel room I should be allowed to adjust the air-conditioning as cold as I want and the heat as hot as I want.
Overall, a great place to stay. Clean, welcoming, and staffed by genuinely friendly employees who were well-dressed, professional, and clearly cared about customer service.
I stayed here while attending the Pinners Conference at the Overland Park Convention Center, and the location could not have been better. The hotel is about 5 minutes away, almost a straight shot. It was incredibly easy for my husband to drop me off and pick me up, but if you’re driving yourself, parking at the convention center is simple and convenient. No need to Uber if you have a car.
You can tell this is an older hotel, but they are actively updating and remodeling—and the improvements are noticeable and well done. Our room had a faint “older hotel” smell, likely from older carpet or curtains. One curtain had a stain and could use replacing, but since they’re in the middle of updating, I’m hopeful this will be addressed soon. Most importantly, the room and beds were clean, the bathroom was mold-free, and that matters most to me.
The atmosphere throughout the hotel was great. There’s a small bar area near the front desk where you can order a limited selection of adult beverages, Starbucks-style coffee drinks, and some warm food. There’s also a small snack area for purchases. The complimentary breakfast nook was honestly better than most “free hotel breakfasts.” My husband ate there (and he eats just about anything) and was genuinely surprised by how good it was.
Customer service was fantastic—helpful, accommodating, and friendly across the board.
The bathroom layout is more of a water-closet style with just a toilet and shower, so it’s compact. The shower itself is spacious, but the toilet area is tight due to the door placement. If you’re a larger person, you may need to leave the door open or request a handicap-accessible room. The sink and mirror are outside the bathroom, which some people dislike, but I actually loved it—it allowed me to get ready while my husband showered. The lighting above the mirror could use an update, as it’s fairly dim and yellow.
The room itself was spacious and well laid out, with a sitting area, desk, counter, mini-fridge, and sink. Bonus points for actual full-size pillows—not the sad little ones—so I didn’t even need to bring my own. There were plenty of outlets, good lighting, and thoughtful placement overall. We stayed on the top floor away from the elevators, so while there was normal hallway noise, it wasn’t disruptive. The beds are positioned farthest from the door, which helped minimize sound. I did use a sound machine, but I’m a light sleeper.
Beds were comfortable, and the comforters smelled clean. There was also an extra blanket in the closet. We didn’t use maid service during our stay, so I can’t speak to that.
One small frustration: if you plan to spend time in the room watching TV, streaming can be tricky. You’ll need Google Cast, and unless you’re comfortable connecting your streaming accounts to the hotel’s open Wi-Fi, it may be frustrating. The available TV channels are limited. Not a big deal if you’re mostly out and about, but something to consider if you’re staying in for work or downtime.
Location-wise, everything we needed was close by or just a quick hop away—Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Starbucks, Scooter’s Coffee, and Chick-fil-A.
I have FODMAP sensitivities and eat gluten-free, and we loved Billie’s Grocery. It’s very gluten-free friendly with excellent breakfast and lunch options, great coffee, and a gluten-free bakery—perfect for grabbing snacks to keep in the room.
We also grabbed BBQ at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was for a quick done-and-dash meal. Counter-order style with dine-in or to-go options, and fast enough when you’re on a tight schedule.
Parking at the hotel was easy, luggage carts were available, and there’s a microwave near the elevators for reheating food—another thoughtful touch.
We would absolutely stay here again. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and clearly improving—this hotel checked all the boxes for a conference stay and beyond
