We loved our stay in Porto. The location was within walking distance of all sites/tours. Or, if wanted, bus system was so very easy to navigate.
The gym and pool were not available due to refurbishment, but I was not informed. Given this must have been planned, I am surprised that I wasn't informed and that it wasn't made clear on the hotel.com site. I could have paid less in other hotels
This is a so-so, mid range hotel with marginally comfortable beds and furniture that needs repair. The shower room is quite nice. It's also very difficult to find if you are not driving.
Staff are always very friendly and the pool is a great way to relax.
The swimming pool and gym have a great view. Food is good. Rooms are a bit tired, for example crack in the sink and the arm of a chair was lose
Noise from lifts kept me awake until late then woke me early in the morning. The sink had a crack in it, the shower went hot and cold, and the grout on the tiles was black in places. However, the hotel has a nice gym and swimming pool with great views. The breakfast was good also. It's a shame the room I stayed in was not better.

Solid, standard business and travelers hotel. Only issue was large amount of tour bus groups that overloaded check in, breakfast and elevators repeatedly.
Stayed for a night. Location is good, near sta catarina shopping street and supermarket. The hotel is old, it has seen better days. Carpets, elevator, room furnishings are old and look worn out. Not a lot of bathroom amenities. Good breakfast but breakfast room also needs an update
Nice hotel could do with robes in room for when going to and from pool. Also more information in room about restaurants and bar.

Superb hotel and facilities

HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES,CLOSE TO TOWN AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS
We stayed at the Vila Gale for two nights, at the end of a nine day tour of Portugal.
It was a lovely hotel: the service was efficient and friendly.
We were given a junior suite.
it was a 30 minute walk for us to the river or the city centre (probably less for a younger couple).
But near the metro if we had chosen to use it. And there were also plenty of buses.
We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was excellent. However I would have liked to be seated apart from coach load of tourists who were having the buffet; quite noisy.
I would be happy to stay there again.
