It was a good value.

Location as it was close to everything in the surrounding area that we wanted to go to
Unfortunately, my stay at this hotel was disappointing. The staff wasn’t particularly friendly—something as simple as a smile or a warm “enjoy your stay” can really make a difference, but that basic courtesy was missing.
Breakfast was another letdown, with undercooked potatoes and little to enjoy overall.
While the room appeared clean—especially the linens and bathroom—there was an overwhelming odor that made it difficult to relax. It smelled strongly of cat urine, and the odor intensified whenever the AC was on. We had to turn it off and open the window just to make the room bearable. Thankfully, the weather was cool, so we managed, but it's unacceptable that the AC couldn’t be used due to the smell.
I understand this is an older hotel—I actually grew up just a few blocks away when it was still the Comfort Inn (if I remember correctly)—but that odor, likely coming from the AC unit or possibly the carpet, needs to be addressed. An upgrade to the HVAC system and a deep carpet cleaning would go a long way.
When I requested new room keys, I mentioned the odor to the front desk staff. Unfortunately, my comment was completely disregarded. The woman simply handed me the keys without any acknowledgment or apology, let alone offering an alternative room. As someone who manages over 420 Airbnb properties in Big Bear Lake, I can confidently say this level of customer service is unacceptable.
We spent minimal time in the room, so we chose to deal with the issue, but the experience left a poor impression. The beds were also very firm and not particularly comfortable.
Based on this visit, I would not recommend this hotel and do not plan to return. Room 208, in particular, requires immediate attention due to the AC and odor issues, and the staff could benefit greatly from customer service training.
