Good hotel with outstandingly helpful staff
Pros:

The location is good - a short walk from San Marco and from the Alilaguna water bus stops, but fairly quiet (at least in March, when we went!).
The really standout thing about this hotel is the staff. They absolutely bent over backwards to be helpful. I noticed them advising other people too.

Cons:

There wasn't anything we disliked. I would quite like to be able to get the free tea and coffee all day (currently it's 2pm to 7am) but that wasn't a major issue.

Small but clean room but not wheelchair friendly
Pros:

Venice has no cars so having walking access to key sights is essential. As part of the Rick Steves tour, this hotel was centrally located behind the opera house and several blocks from St Mark's Square and water taxis. Getting to the hotel from the airport requires google maps and the ability to get lost and figure out the path. The hotel room was clean, small, excellent blackout drapes, a keyed safe, comfortable bed and small shower. They have an early breakfast included. If you can't walk a quarter mile without assistance, this is not for you since you have to walk up stairs and to the sights. in fact, Venice is not for those with mobility problems. I found the front desk staff friendly and helpful.
