Pool, sauna and steam room were great - this was the selling point that led me to book - and there is plenty of parking.
There was no air conditioning in the room. We simply could not sleep in the room - it was too hot (this was during the first heatwave) - so had to resort to booking an IHG hotel to spend the night a 30 minute drive away.
We were told the wrong time for breakfast (think the staff member who checked us in forgot it was not a weekend) so arrived (from our second hotel!) just as breakfast was finishing. A staff member very grudgingly let us grab some cereal before continuing to clear up (in an appalling display of customer service!).
The bar area was disappointing in terms of lack of comfort and not feeling special (though it did have air conditioning!)
We did not stay the second night that we’d booked. Went home instead as it was the better option .
Central location for our needs.
It was very hot in the room. Only a small fan was supplied which was not adequate. Also no children in the Spa after 5. My daughter was very disappointed as this was the main reason we booked with them.
Clean, spacious, use of hair dryer and iron
Lack of air conditioning. Although a small fan was provided, it didn’t help much with the heat.
Easy arrival, comfortable room, easy transport and parking
Overly air conditioned. Freezing in the bar area despite it being a warm day.
Rooms where great. Very spacious, clean, bed was very comfortable. Food served at the restaurant/ bar was great.
Didn’t have Breakfast in hotel due to just wanting a continently style and thought £17.50 is was expensive for that. Surprised a continently option wasn’t on offer ( would have been happy paying £10 ) considering the Health aspect of the hotel.
Could have do with a fridge in the room to keep drinks etc cool throughout my stay.
We stayed on the second floor. Lovely room, beds were comfortable and room was clean but it was extremely hot and had no aircon. We all sleep on top of the beds with the window open but it was still unbearably hot!
Breakfast was good and staff were friendly, approachable and helpful.
No aircon in room
I rarely leave negative reviews, but our stay at Village Hotel Coventry was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
The first surprise was that guests are charged £7.50 per day for parking and £5 per day to use the gym. I have stayed at many hotels where these facilities are included for paying guests, so this was unexpected.
During our stay there was an extreme heatwave. For the first week, we were unable to open our room window because scaffolding outside the hotel was blocking it. The room became extremely hot and uncomfortable. I asked reception for a fan but was told they had none available, so I had to go out and buy my own.
I also requested additional coat hangers and was told they did not know if any were available. No one followed up.
The room service experience was also very disappointing. The information in the room stated that room service delivery was free, but there was no clear ordering code or instructions. I had to go to the bar to place the order. On the first evening, I arrived at approximately 9:15 pm, despite the advertised last food order time being 9:30 pm, and was told the kitchen was already closed.
We tried again the following evening and were then told there was a £3.50 room service surcharge. One of the items we paid for was missing from the order, and when I reported it, I was told the kitchen was closed and nothing could be done.
Due to the overall experience, we decided to leave early and move to another hotel. At reception, I was told that the unused nights could not be refunded. They also said they would look into refunding the gym and parking charges, but those refunds have not been processed.
Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. The lack of clear communication, unexpected additional charges, poor service, and lack of resolution made this a very frustrating experience. We will not be staying at Village Hotel Coventry again.
One of the best gym facilities I think I’ve ever come across
Lighting could have been a bit better in the rooms and a safe would be good.
