If you want super-modern, faceless, beige accommodation then this place is not for you! But if you enjoy a place with character and creaky old-world charm, which makes up for its imperfections with extra space, nice touches such as a bath (perfect for a winter stay), complimentary organic teas and chocolate biscuits, and the most visually stunning café-bar you're likely to find, then this is for you. I loved it.
When staying in the city centre I prefer a 24 hour reception and an actual person to check-out with. Just feels more human. That said I did feel safe.
Location is perfect! Free parking is a good perk as well, although driving isn’t needed at all as the hotel is close to free public transport (bus and tram) and right in the middle of shops, restaurants, and tourist spots
Nitpicking here but it would have been nice to have a small bar of soap at the sink, instead of us getting a pump of body wash from the shower everytime we need to wash our hands
Location. Staff were great
Was a bit run down.
Staff at reception were all very polite and friendly. I had a room on the fifth floor, easily accessed by the lift. That said, I actually did enjoy the exercise of taking the stairs down to ground level a number of times.
In the room was a small refrigerator and a kettle, with tea/coffee and biscuits provided. There was also an iron & ironing board.
With winter temperatures in Adelaide, the room air conditioning made for a cosy stay. A small heater was also provided, though not required.
The bathroom was large and well lit. It had a separate shower and bath tub.
The location of the Richmond Hotel is fantastic, being right on the Rundle Street mall. There was easy access to food, coffee, shops, and transportation to reach further afield.
I used the local bus to travel from the airport to the city and it was a short walk on sealed footpaths and through the mall, making access incredibly easy.
Definitely will try to book this hotel on my next visit to Adelaide.
I’m loathe to even mention this because it’s not a fault or “dislike” of the hotel, rather a sign that systems work! On one evening at around 8pm the fire alarm sounded, with a message to evacuate the building. I walked down the previously discovered stairwell and shortly after the fire services arrived. An inspection was made and it was ascertained that it had been a false alarm. The staff and patrons were soon allowed to reenter the hotel. A minor inconvenience and not at all the hotel’s fault…as said, it showed that the safety features worked.
Great location
Huge comfortable room
Location was ideal in Rundell Mall close to dining, shopping and sightseeing
Air conditioning failed to work, room was freezing even when air conditioning was turned to max (25.5). Rang after hours reception to report that the air conditioning was not heating room, they arrived with a small Goldair fan heater to heat the room. This was in addition to finding three other heaters in the room. Total four heats, obviously a known fault that has not been previously rectified. Nothing happened to correct the air con failure the two nights we stayed. Also, they kept taking additional $50/$100 deposits from our account beyond the initial deposit - continuous monitoring by us.
Central location, clean, comfortable bed, good sized room and secure parking close. Helpful staff.
Front room exposed to noise on the weekend, buskers, party people
Close to shopping, and entertainment!
Good location - good sized bathroom, comfy bed
Having to call for the key code to enter my room. Why not just email the code like every other hotel
The location of the Richmond is perfect. I’ve stayed here many times. The parking is convenient, especially if you have a larger vehicle.
The rooms are getting tired and dated. The bathrooms are huge but in need of some tlc. They are poorly cleaned. I suspect the cleaning staff are not allocated enough time. Once a month a deep clean would keep these maintained. There was black build up on the grout which was easily wiped off with my finger in the shower. The black buildup at the base of shower came off with a swipe of the towel. It is not good enough to leave bathrooms in a hotel like this. Management need to get in cleaners to deep clean this place so the daily cleaners can then just maintain the facilities. We didn’t have toilet paper in our room which was an oversight, but with no staff on the weekend was pretty inconvenient, and when we phoned to get a roll, it was suggested we wait till the bar opens at 10am to access toilets. Not partially helpful. I’d suggest having a cupboard security locked with access via a code for such emergencies. I wrote a private email as I don’t like public complaints, but seeing as they didn’t bother replying. Here it is.
Great central location. Priced well. Comfy bed and large room. Very quiet
Furniture in room is really shabby and dated. Faux marble bathroom needs updating. Would in shower from age. No fan or ventilation in bathroom
Everything about this hotel is fantastic
