My annual visit to Ashland
Pros:

The location is ideal. Just a few minutes to the theaters

Cons:

The beds are lumpy. There is a constant banging noise, not sure where it comes from. Maybe the furnace.

Pros:

If you're attending a play at OSF, the hotel is one level block from the theaters. The on-site restaurant is very good, and obviously attuned to the times of plays. Parking is free and the hot buffet breakfast is $5.

Cons:

I'm having trouble getting them to send me an invoice for my stay; I accepted their offer to email it when I left. It's an older place, so the rooms are in the smallish side.

Pros:

I love how functional and beautiful the room is. Appreciate the air conditioning! I liked the black-out draperies, too. The coffee at breakfast is FANTASTIC, and breakfast was quite good, as well -- it tasted homemade, and I always prefer quality over quantity. Great that you have fruit and vegetarian options. Generally, I love the hotel.

Cons:

The first man I checked in with made me feel inferior because we'd booked with booking.com. I said I'd asked for a feather-free room and he said he wasn't sure he could do that because we'd booked with booking. I've stayed several times at the Ashland Springs, and I've always had feather-free bedding. He finally said he'd send up housekeeping, but no one came. I finally went down to the desk again and asked another woman, and she immediately took care of it, though housekeeping did not actually remake my bed -- they handed me the sheets for me to do myself. Additionally, you really should keep some feather-free duvets, though -- they couldn't give me one.

Pros:

The location was perfect for seeing shows and walking around town. The room and the view were absolutely beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The whole place is beautiful, peaceful, and elegant. I loved having breakfast in the garden.

Cons:

Not much really. This is a great hotel. I always wish for swimming pools, but this isn't that kind of place, and I respect that. Not all the TV channels listed on a sheet were actually there, but I did not travel to watch TV anyway.

The hotel was very elegant and conveniently located. The service and accounting need improvement.
Pros:

Had to pay extra for breakfast

Cons:

The hotel charged me for the room even after I had paid for it when I booked the room online.
The additional Facility Fee of $15 (for wifi use, on-site parking, and off-site gym) was charged regardless of actual use.
This extra fee was not part of the advertised room rate. This is deceptive advertisement. The hotel should leave the facility use fee as an option for guests to choose.

Pros:

Excellent beds. Great location. Responsive staff

Cons:

I had a real kerfluffle in my first room. Garbage trucks outside my window at 5 am and a few things not working. The staff acted immediately and upgraded me to a bigger room on higher floor. I really appreciated their responsiveness.

I would absolutely stay again.
Pros:

This is an older hotel but it is well tended to and cared for.

Our room was so tiny that we were thankful we were only there for one night because there was barely enough room for us and our luggage. BUT, this was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in and you can tell the pride and care that the housekeeping team has in spades. While looking for the remote, I looked under the bed, usually that is an appalling site to be avoided in hotels, IT WAS SPOTLESS ! LOL, I cannot tell you how impressed I was LOL!!!

The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was a pleasure. We both slept very well and by the time we left, we loved our little room.

We also had the pleasure of dealing with Gina (who brought us a remote) She was helpful, friendly and made us feel that she was sincerely happy that we were there. Also a rarity in most hotels.

The hotel's location is perfect for this very walkable city. We would definitely stay again.

Nice, Historic Hotel---Breakfast Could Be Better
Pros:

We only spent one night here. This historic high rise hotel was built in 1925, and the history is definitely one of its major attributes. It's located within walking distance of every attraction in downtown Ashland, including the Shakespeare theater. Even though it has 9 stories, it feels like more of a boutique hotel, and was very quiet.

We had a view king room (top floor), with a great view of the downtown area and surrounding hills. The fairly large room had a nice, comfortable bed and large flat screen, but interestingly no desk. As is common for historic hotels, the bathroom was small (including a very small shower). Furnishings showed some age, but once again common for an older hotel. A perk is that parking is free, in a lot right behind the hotel. One of Ashland's top-rated restaurants (Larks) is in the hotel, but we didn't try it.

Two minor issues. There is a $5 charge for breakfast---why not just offer free breakfast, and adjust the room rate. A bit weird. And unfortunately the buffet breakfast was not very good---just similar to a Hampton Inn or other chain hotel. The other issue is a pet peeve of mine----they charge a $15 facility fee which was not disclosed in the reservation. Perhaps this makes up for the free parking, Definitely not a big deal, just a matter of principle. Overall, we enjoyed the history, and the room was fine (especially the view). However, they need to improve the breakfast situation.
