Great location, wonderful spaces to enjoy!
Breakfast was disappointing not much variety and not great quality.
Beautiful hotel with pride in their history, immaculate and comfortable rooms, very quiet, affordable breakfast on site, and in a very fun/lively location. We had a lovely corner room with large windows (even in the bathroom).
Room was a little small, but understandable as it's a historic building with the original layout.
We stayed here on our honeymoon 30 years ago. Such fun to come back--the interior is even more interesting than the first time! Perfect walk to food and the Shakespeare Festival.
No complaints!
It is in a fabulous location. It is old elegance and lovely
Cannot think of anything
Great location. Old world elegance. Very nice bathroom considering the age of the hotel. Definitely comfortable and welcoming. I wanted to stay longer.
Weird entry from parking.
Location, breakfast, comfortable bed and bath.
Room was very small, hardly room to open a suitcase or open bathroom door without hitting bed. Very cold.
Location couldn't be better - steps away from OSF theatres and surrounded by good restaurants and interesting shops.
Love the mezzanine level area next to the arched windows. A lovely place for coffee and a leisurely breakfast.
Beds are super comfy. Slept great.
Mechanics for purchasing breakfast vouchers are poorly communicated. Guests are told upon check-in that breakfast is served in the Palm Room but are NOT told they must go each morning to the front desk and purchase vouchers. This is a surprise on the first morning - many (if not most?) guests go directly to the breakfast area and must figure out that a voucher is necessary to obtain a plate. THEN they head down to the front desk to purchase the required voucher. Might it be possible to purchase the vouchers during check-in? Or, at very least, be given a quick overview of the process.
Breakfast buffet could be better staffed. Both mornings there was a wait for foods (eggs, bacon, potatoes) in the warming trays to be replenished. We were told there was a new cook. I hope things have smoothed out since.
The shower in our room was a rainhead in the center of the tub ceiling making it impossible to take a shower without getting my hair wet. Might sound like a nit but this matters to a girl who doesn't want to wash her hair every day. The rainhead is not "tiltable" and even a shower cap cannot protect from the downpour. I asked about this at the front desk and was told multiple rooms in the building are set up this way because renovations over time did not allow for locating showerheads in the walls. Apparently, the magic words are "I prefer a standard shower configuration". Wish I'd known that!
Bed was super comfortable but sheets leaned "historical" - quite warn and a tad shredded. That was certainly a surprise.
The location was perfect for walking to restaurants, shops, and the Lithia Park trails.
It is dated and the rooms are pretty small. It has a great historical feel, but could use some updating.
Stayed here for two nights, in conjunction with seeing some OSF plays. This is a cozy 100-year-old hotel full of old charm. Advantages: Excellent hotel restaurant (Lark's Home Kitchen); 3 blocks from the OSF theaters, 3 blocks to the Ashland Food Co-Op to pick up fruit and other snacks; plenty of restaurants and shops a short walk away. Breakfast no longer included -- but it's only $5 per person, and offers a nice array of choices which change daily. One breakfast offered a couple choices of bakery items, spinach/mushroom frittata, bacon, oatmeal, bagels and other toaster items, coffee, tea, fruit juices. Bargain.
I enjoyed breakfast on the airy, sunny second floor balcony. The odd thing is the tables are a little low, easy to bang knees, somewhat uncomfortable seating.
When I made my reservation, I requested a petite queen room not on a pet floor. All was quiet during my stay. Bed was comfy. Spa bathrobes included in closet, a nice touch but not particularly great bathrobes. Coffee maker was of the insert pod drip style, a little awkwardly placed on top of mini fridge and on side of room furthest from bathroom sink. No microwave. Bathroom was very tight -- I am only 5'4" and didn't have much room to maneuver; taller and larger folks might want to ask for a room with a larger bathroom. Slightly funky rattan furniture part of the furnishings. No comfy armchair to read in, but did have a chair and small writing desk. No housekeeping for stays two nights or less, so had to request more coffee for Day 2 of stay.
Front desk personnel were friendly, helpful. I was able to leave my suitcase with them for a few hours after checkout.
I intend to stay here again my next visit to Ashland. I enjoy quaint, quirky hotels!
It was a simple but good buffet.
EV charger, Lark restaurant, breakfast buffet, central to downtown, pet friendly, cozy fireplace and sitting area in lobby, vintage architecture, venerable.
Slow elevator, sloping floors, loud fan noise from bathroom, tired furnishings.
Beautiful historical building. Helpful staff. Parking included and easy access. Lovely room.
I liked everything
Best location! Cutest historic vibe!
What a beautiful hotel. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable, especially the bed. We had a corner room with a great view. The parking was very convenient and we especially appreciated the EV charger. The location is great, very close to shops and restaurants. We will definitely stay here again.
