Nice room, good location, pool is heated and we had everything we needed for a nice and easy SB weekend .
Great location on State Street. We were touring colleges with our son and the rooms were roomy and comfortable. The restaurant and bar was convenient and yummy. Nice pool.
Marriott always has high standards and goes the extra mile to make sure you have a good stay. Overall Marriott meets my needs. The restaurant was their week link but there was multiple great restaurants within walking distance.
Great stay as usual. Clean and spacious rooms, amazing downtown location and staff if always a nice.
The hotel staff and front office were very friendly and courteous. The restaurant was great and food delicious. Enjoyed the pool too.
Room was cozy and the bed was to die for
Room was clean, I like that there was carpeting, vs a cold feeling laminate. I liked the property architecture aesthetic.
OMG, you have to get a stronger, boosted wifi signal - I was CONSTANTLY having to re-connect. my stay would have been so much better if not for that.
Clean rooms and great customer service from staff - really cute and clean bar and restaurant attached to pool area - good area - decent hotel for Courtyard..
This property is situated at the top of State Street, providing easy access to downtown. It was modern and clean, while still keeping much of it's mid century character. The amenities were great, and the staff were amazing.
Great location, very clean facility. Great weather!! Just wish our room would have been cleaned. We were asked and said yes but didn’t happen. Otherwise it was a nice stay.
I was misled by the hotel’s name. I stayed here for one night as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, a few days ahead of my upcoming birthday. The hotel did leave a small card and a few snacks in the room, which I appreciate.
Unfortunately, the room assigned was located directly next to the air-conditioning compressor, producing intermittent low-frequency noise throughout the night. The sound was persistent and very disruptive, making it difficult to rest properly.
Beyond the small birthday gesture, there was no room upgrade or any meaningful enhancement to the stay. The room itself felt like a standard business hotel room, offering a very basic experience for an elite member.
Despite the “Downtown” name, the location feels isolated, with very limited walkable dining or shopping options. A car is essentially required, and returning at night can be inconvenient due to parking concerns.
As a Platinum member, there was no complimentary breakfast, no breakfast credit, and no substantial welcome amenity. While I understand this may align with brand policy, the overall value felt underwhelming.
Most disappointing was the value proposition. This stay required a redemption equivalent to roughly US$530 worth of points, which felt extremely poor given the noise issues, lack of upgrade, and limited elite recognition.
In summary, while there was a minimal birthday-related acknowledgment, the stay offered little comfort or value. The hotel is functional at best and significantly overpriced for what it delivers. I would not choose this property again when traveling as an elite member.
Lovely hotel in a great location
The location is great. Outside of the centre but an easy stroll to loads of good restaurants. The rooms are good, with a nice design, good showers and comfortable, reasonably firm mattresses. Clearly the hotel has been refurbished and extended in recent years so everything is quite modern.
We liked everything but noted that the older rooms don’t have central ac and there is noise in some of the newer rooms from the AC units on the roof. We were uncertain therefore whether we would stay here during hot weather
The man who checked us in was kind even tho i'd made a mistake on the booking. he gave us chips for a beverage in the bar, which was nice. I'd mentioned in my booking that it was our 50th wedding anniversary but no one said anything *shrug*
having to pay $30 just to park our car
My daughter and I did a girls trip to Santa Barbara and stayed at this location for the first time. It was a great experience!! Great customer service first of all. The room was exceptionally clean. I love the layout of the hotel. The pool is in the middle of the hotel and the restaurant. Just a few blocks from downtown shopping. I totally recommend this location.
Great hotel! The only thing that is negative is th $30 charge for parking. That is not acceptable in my mind. Parking should never cost that much, if at all.
location
room facing street (State Street)
My family and I took a last-minute road trip vacation and decided to visit Hearst Castle before heading back and staying two nights in Santa Barbara—and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. This location was absolutely perfect.
From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful, even recommending Sushi Tyme for fresh, to-go sushi—which my daughter loved. On our first evening, we walked to Milk & Honey for tapas and drinks and had a wonderful dining experience. The location is ideal for walking and exploring. There is so much to see and do just by staying on State Street and strolling toward the pier. The restaurants, great shopping, and pedestrian-friendly streets made it such a fun and easy place to spend time. We also walked to the Funk Zone and enjoyed wandering through its unique shops.
It rained heavily on our second night, but it turned into the perfect excuse to visit the Arlington Theatre—hands down the nicest theater we’ve ever been to. The theater is beautifully preserved, popcorn was fresh and the entire experience felt special and charming.
For breakfast the next morning, we stopped at Joe’s and enjoyed the best corned beef hash we’ve ever had. It truly felt like a community staple, with people greeting one another and servers who were warm and welcoming. Friendly staff, excellent food, and a wonderful atmosphere—what a perfect way to end our stay.
This trip was memorable from start to finish, and Santa Barbara completely exceeded our expectations.
We will definitely be back and stay at the courtyard on State Street!
