Decent breakfast, the communal bar area and breakfast room are very traditional and nice places to relax. Freebie Elemis shower gel & soap always a plus
Rooms - tired looking decor/furniture in need of a refresh now. Saggy bed. Not sure Macdonald group have invested much in this regard since the last splurge around 15 years ago? Ancient TV, and fixtures. No mini fridge in the room. Nowhere near enough plug sockets let alone having them in convenient places. Still using US style sockets for lamp fittings? Lighting in the room poor. Noisy heater (the heat causing metallic expansion noises - unit needs replaced as its old)
Ideally positioned for my visit. Beautiful location

Dinner and breakfast included in package price. Both meals were excellent. Staff were all lovely and attentive. Room larger than expected with a good supportive bed. Extremely clean. Elemis toiletries were a nice touch.
Clean comfortable room, great shower, lovely staff and nice breakfast.
Sorry very minor and not important, but the tomato ketchup at breakfast was poor quality.😊
Breakfast was average, could have been a little bit warmer, buffet selection was average
While the public spaces are well kept, the bedrooms are in need of looking after, the first bedroom we were in was a little musty, the mattress was in need of replacing and no duvet, after a free upgrade to the bridal suite, the only room they had available, that to is in need of a little tlc, it’s looking tired, and the coffee making facilities need looking at, the biscuits were a week out of date, I took them to reception and informed them, but didn’t get much of a response
The original building is very special . Beautiful wood and general opulence from many moons ago
A horrible incident when the chair i was sitting on in the bar was found to have urine on it and therefore made my clothes wet. Turned out a dog had been on the chair previously and the staff member thought thats what it would be. Horrible
The grand public rooms. Very peaceful surroundings. The staff were so friendly and professional. The complementary breakfast was really good.
A little attention to details in the room - the sticky kettle, the Tv remote control needed a clean.
Beautiful hotel, and we by reading other reviews were lucky enough to get a fantastic room - warm, huge, really comfortable bed and wonderful bathroom with tons of hot water. We didn't eat dinner, but breakfast was excellent, good continental selection and my pancakes were awesome. Also should mention every member of staff we met was very kind, personable and friendly. Lots of parking, and the building is beautiful.
However, as other reviews have noted, if there is an event on at the hotel, be warned of the noise. The receptionist said there was an office party on with 15 guests, which had a full 80s disco and finished about 12.30. We didn't hear any of the guests, just the sheer noise of the music, pounding through the room. I'd advise checking when booking if there is an event on on a Saturday night, as I can't imagine it's relaxing if there is a wedding taking place.
On a personal note, very small cups in the room - we had to use our travels mugs for first coffee!
The hotel is lovely but needs investment.
However our room was super clean and comfortable and very quite. The breakfast is awesome 👌
The pool was not working. It should have said on booking
