I love the Red Lion Inn, one of my favorite places on this earth, and I do travel quite a bit. I love the ambience, the formal dining room's atmosphere, the old building that is a story of character. I have eaten in the dining room more times than I could ever count, and I just love sitting in the foyer and in the summer on the porch with its rocking chairs. I will keep coming back as I have for many years now. I don't stay overnight at the Inn very often, since I only live 1.5 hours away in CT, but every time I have stayed here, I fall in love with it again and again.
Quite old and shabby really. The carpet in the room was a disgrace.
Not impressed at all . Wasn't worth what was paid either ..sad. all people are paying for is the name .that's it .!!!!! Ill definitely go elsewhere next time
The room for what i paid damn .. couldn't get a real carpet..yuck
There was a bug in our bed in 301 and the road noise was very loud. Spoke to a very nice woman at the desk the next morning and we moved to another beautiful room - 103.
Location was good
Musty smell of room. Total lack of investment in the property. Too expensive for the dissappointing room we got ( lamps not working, tiny bathroom with nowhere to place toiletries, linoleum flooring...seriously??? at over $300 / night??). We thought we were staying at the Inn...not a old home across the property.
Food was very good albeit the service from the kitchen was slow
Faster service from the kitchen
The food was not overpriced
The hotel was in need of updating and suffered from lack of upkeep. The security was poor with unlocked doors on corridors leading to the outside .
Quaintness of the Red Lion
Our room needed a dusting, especially the base of the night stands. The bathroom sink was rusted and chipped with peeling porcelain. The sink's hot water valve made a steady screeching sound whenever it was turned on.
Stunning room , in a beautiful old hotel in a place and area me and my wife love
Saturday night before Christmas, would have been nice to eat in the tavern , I know they were busy but host was a bit abrupt, people hogging the fire place seats , but can't really fault them for that ,
The location and the atmosphere. The staff was also very nice
Screaming children well past midnight tunning up and doen yhe halls and paper thin walls. Having fun is one thing but the reviews made it seem like a quiet older crowd which is what we wanted and that just wasn't the case. We went hone early and lost out on our second night because of it .
Everything went better than you could hope for. The staff was outstanding & polite & helpful, both in the Hotel itself and in the Restaurant downstairs called the "Lion's Den". Fabulous time. We have been coming here for 30 years and have always enjoyed our stay.
Honestly, nothing could have been better. Our stay, our meals & location to the Norman Rockwell Museum & others was perfect!
Nice big room, almost a full apartment.
Parkin could be better
Location and history of inn
Disappointed that fireplace in room was not working and wasn’t told about it. Didn’t like the barking dogs in the rooms next to us for most of the stay. Really Annoying that inn and customers don’t care about their dogs barking all the time and not caring about the other people staying in the inn. Wouldn’t recommend this inn for that reason. Did enjoy main lobby fireplace
So warm and welcoming
Historic
We love this hotel for the great dining room, the chintz decor, cozy fireplace. The best meal to get is breakfast in my opinion. At dinner we like to order off the pub menu in the dinning room. The hotel is dog friendly, a plus
The appeal of this inn is the historic aspect. It can be very charming, but unfortunately the rooms have not been renovated in many decades and are very uncomfortable and degraded. The restaurant and tavern struggled to accommodate the people actually staying there as the locals also come there to eat and drink. The staff was lovely and very kind and were honestly doing their best. The place just in serious need of renovations.
the sloping lumpy beds, run down bathroom, broken furniture in the suite, tissue paper stuffed in a hole in the wall and the ceiling was falling in over our bed.
I’ve lived in the area all my life. Have great memories of this historic landmark going there with my mother for a special lunch from time to time. Back then it wasn’t as overrun with self important people. Now it’s just a shadow of its former greatness.
Made a reservation for my Mom and myself today specifically for lunch in the dining room. We arrived slightly early and were told we had to wait, no problem. We sat in the lobby which had more dogs in it than people. These are not service dogs just strange people that think the whole world should be enamored with their smelly, filthy animals steps from their lunch tables. After observing a near open fight when one large dog entered the area where two smaller dogs were already residing….(yesh great) our reservation time came so we went back to the hostess desk where they proceeded to seat us not in the dining room that I reserved but in the dark, drafty, cramped tavern. I questioned the hostess who basically shrugged and said it was all that was available. I told her I specifically reserved standard dining room. No response basically take it or leave it. So there I was with my 90 year old mom…so cramped we had to put our handbags on the dirty floor, couldn’t even put our coats on the back of our chairs so we ate with them on our laps. My $22 chicken pot pie was about the size of a can of single serve soup and it was cold. They charged close to $5 a piece for our club sodas….another $9 for a half bowl of soup and $20 for a turkey sandwich. Not to mention being surrounded by the most insufferable “citidiots” I’ve ever had the misfortune of having to listen to…(quiet conversation is a foreign concept to these people). So many of these people trying to be “characters” dressed like they should be part of a Agatha Christe drama….spare me please.
Could not get out of there fast enough.
The place is clearly trading on its history alone and little else. Last visit ever for us. This is now just one of many places in the area where you can expect to be overcharged and underserved. Their base clientele all have more money then sense so I’m sure they won’t miss our business.
Historical aspect and the fact that it was centrally located.
The food could be improved and the service for dinner and n the Tavern could be improved.
