Old and worn out
Pros:

The check in experience was great. After that, everything about the hotel was disappointing. Very tired, boring rooms hugely in need of renovation. The executive club is small and not very nice. Breakfast is crowded and the quality of food pretty average

An adventure and learning experience. Marriott perfect, again.

Always feel home at the Marriott. Consistently. My daughter and I are affiliated with a huge airline carrier in USA. We know “friendly”!The staff at the front desk were always attentive to our needs. Location was perfect. I especially want to recognize the staff who we happily saw every morning at breakfast (Delicious!) . They are true professionals. Beautiful Stephanie , Vi..lciane(sic) Marcelle and Isabella. They could not have been more welcoming and sweet and proficient and we appreciated it…never more than the day after a motorcyclist stole our phone in a split second. NEVER stand near a busy crowded roadside to check for Uber. Go in a building!!! Warning!!! 1 every 7 minutes.. It was us. 2200USD gone. Got into Apple account, bank account. Go to TOURIST POLICE. Excellent and speak English, kindly in this traumatic experience. We tried to be so careful. It does happen. Ipanema at lunchtime. The Marriott were very compassionate. Christ the Redeemer was everything we dreamed of! Lovely place south on a Iour with snorkeling . Gustavo was amazing (Christ the Redeemer as director and Tiego snorkel /lunch tour. Well organized. Enjoy but WATCH PHONE EVERY SECOND> DO NOT STAND NEAR TRAFFIC CLOSE TO ROADS I CROWDS!!!!!!

Not really a JW
Pros:

This hotel is more like a regular Marriott than a JW - and even that seems a stretch. The beach setup is run terribly poorly. When I was there, there were no towels or chairs available! Service in the hotel is poor - seems like their people are not properly trained and I had to call multiple times everytime I needed something - often times, nobody answers the phone at all.

Loved the location, the room was spacious and clean, and comfortable

Cons:

It was gone 3pm and the house keeping still had not been to the room, we felt like we had to stay out longer and we wanted to come back and clean off from the beach

Great location and hotel!
Pros:

This is a wonderful hotel. There is a great lounge for Marriott members. It's open for most of the day. We had a great view of the beach and it was very quiet. Great location too.

Pros:

Excellent location on Copacabana beach. Old hotel but still comfortable with friendly staff. Generally well maintained, apart from the odd piece of wallpaper not properly sticking to the wall.
Some bedrooms face an internal space so be aware of this when choosing & booking a room - and opening the curtains! Comfortable bed and nice shower. Bathroom would benefit from an extraction fan however. Excellent cleaning / maintenance of the room.
Very friendly welcome and service at breakfast (Denise- thank you). Good selection of food and freshly cooked eggs.
Rooftop pool is small but one of the most stunning beaches in the world is just across the road. Two bars - one on roof and one on the ground floor are fine with friendly service.

A bit disappointing
Pros:

The location is great, right on the beach, and the staff are helpful however I would not stay here again. The room was a good size, but faced an internal area that could get quite noisy with echoes at night. Even though I turned the air conditioning off for sleeping as it was quite loud, it turned itself back on early in the morning waking me up. The toiletries and snacks were not replenished once in my 3 night stay. The breakfast choices were vey good, but I found it strange that there was no alternative to butter. I can’t be the only person in the world who doesn’t eat butter! There was however a milk alternative so that was good. The hotel itself seemed quite tired and dated and had a slight musty smell. There was also wallpaper coming away from one of the walls in the corridor. Although I didn’t use it the gym seemed adequate with good views of the beach from the treadmills. The swimming pool was rather small, but of course the sea is just over the road!

Excellent Hotel, Fantastic Service
Pros:

We enjoyed 4 nights at the JW Rio during a 3 week South America adventure. Hotel is in a great location on Copacabana beach. We had a King, ocean view room which was fab! Spotlessly clean & comfortable. First class, friendly service throughout our stay. Rooftop pool & bar is small but adequate. The hotel has sun lounger facilities on the beach - not well publicised - a bit scruffy, disappointing but nice service from hotel beach staff. Highlight - amazing breakfast. Best of our 3 week trip for sure. Very impressive. And first class service. Overall, highly recommended.
