From start to finish our spa day was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the relaxing experience we expected. On arrival we were given vouchers to use for tea and coffee, but despite asking three separate times if anyone could serve us, we were ignored. In the end we had to take our drinks in takeaway cups into the spa area, which certainly didn't set the tone for a luxury experience.
Unfortunately, it didn't improve from there. The hot tub was out of action and the pool areas were visibly dirty, which made it difficult to relax.
As part of the twilight package a '40 minute' treatment was included and this was cut short, the treatment itself was good but felt rushed and not what we paid for.
Our package included a 'two course dinner' but this was more like a light lunch. One of the 'main' options was bruschetta, which we found surprising as a main course. The other option was a chicken Caesar salad, which we were asked to pay extra for if we actually wanted the chicken added. We had to actually go for dinner on the way home after spending nearly £300 for four rubbish hours!
Avoid, dated and not worth any money!
Booked for afternoon tea and what a disappointment it was. Menu states a selection of 4 sandwiches, we ended up with 3 small fish finger size sandwiches not even 2 slices of bread each! The scones were nice but extra small and the other cakes were a one bite offering. Definitely not worth the price that they charge, it has gone down hill rapidly as I have been before and it was far better. Would not recommend and wouldn’t go back it’s a total con.
The spa is the best part but that like the rest of the property needs a lot of attention. The staff are what makes this hotel a 4 star otherwise I would say it’s a 3 star.
Needs a good refurbishment. My full body massage was over £100 and I came out looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards and I felt like it too, it felt rushed and the therapist was rough I had to tell her several times to not press so hard. My partner had an Indian head massage which he said was pathetic.
Food was over priced and such small portions. Our room (Poppy) had hardly any tea or milk and it was just dumped on the sow by the kettle not placed in the box nicely like it should be. The shower gel was empty and shampoo nearly empty I had to call down to reception from my mobile because they do not provide landline phones on the room to ask for some replacements. The shower flooded the bathroom it was literally a small swimming pool if I hadn’t of noticed I could have slipped and hurt myself. The mattress was uncomfortable I had a spring digging in me all night and the radiator was making a terrible noise all night.
We had another lovely stay at at Rowhill Grange Hotel & Spa. The location is set in wonderful grounds and is central to most venues for South East & Central London. The staff are outstanding in politeness and exceptional in making your stay very comfortable. Nothing was to much trouble, when asked for extras for your room comfort they either go them straight away, or they were sent to your room immediately.
The dinning experience was amazing, melt in the mouth steak and an abundance of prawns in the cocktail. Compliment to the chef.
We did not use any spa facilities as we were there for only a two night stay due to a family event, but all the staff are well turned out and aim to please their guest. We throughly enjoyed our stay and am sure we will be back. Thank you!!
We stayed here about 11 years ago and loved it. Sadly, this visit was the complete opposite. It doesn’t appear the hotel has had any updates in that time. The whole place feels tired, with worn carpets and wallpaper peeling in the restaurant. The spa area was dated and not as clean as expected.
Our dining experience was equally disappointing. We waited 45 minutes for bread as a starter, only for our mains to arrive three minutes later. The £28 chicken dish was half a breast with a small amount of purée and a few sprout leaves. Even after a £9 side, we went to bed hungry. The restaurant manager was very apologetic and clearly embarrassed by the experience.
Breakfast was average, and again the run-down restaurant affected the overall experience. I raised these issues at checkout, but felt it was important to share so others don’t waste their time or money. Such a shame, a very disappointing and expensive weekend.
We live close to RG and decided to eat there last night, hoping for a really good experience and expecting to pay accordingly. We really want RG to be a top-class place to visit and bring/meet friends.
The menu (although the physical menu contained a number of typos/spelling mistakes) was reassuringly small and of promising quality. The starters and mains we had were all extremely good, so full marks to the chef. The staff were generally attentive and helpful too. That said, we noted a number of things the restaurant (RG’s) could fix to match the price, menu and setting:
- we waited half an hour for our pre-dinner drinks
- they could do better than the small plastic flowers on the tables
- the piped music was poor and cheesy
- the dining room is surprisingly noisy/echoey and lacks anything to deaden sound
- lighting could be more relaxing or even romantic
- I thought (as non resident diners) our coats might have been taken to be hung
So 10/10 for the food but 6/10 for the experience overall. Shame, it’s such a lovely setting and potentially the go to dining experience in the Dartford/Swanley area.
I had booked a mother daughter spa day for my daughters 18th birthday and WOW what a huge disappointment!! Which is so sad as I'd hoped it to would be an extra special birthday treat. Nearly £400 for half a spa day with a 55 minute treatment, (mine lasted 42 minutes from start to finish ), and a 2 course lunch which was off the budget menu!! Honestly I have never felt so ripped off, they even charged me extra on top of the £400 to put chicken on our Caesar salads. Seriously?!?! After paying £400?!?!?! Other diners were being brought much nicer meals and I just can't help but feel we were mugged off. I flagged up my concern as it wasn't clear there was a supplement charge "for adding protein" and no other items on the menu had a supplement charge. Still nothing was deducted from the bill even though the staff member completely agreed! In essence I came away feeling that I'd been mugged off.
My partner said for the same price he had bought us dinner, bed and breakfast with spa access at Eastwell Manor so I would personally spend your money there! I will not be going back to Rowhill Grange again. I think to be honest its an over priced let down. Avoid at all costs!!
My husband had booked an overnight stay with a Swedish body massage each as my Christmas present.
When we arrived we went straight to the spa for the massage, it was lovely and very relaxing but definitely not worth £110pp!
The spa receptionist was very friendly. Personally I have been to a lot better spa’s that are bigger and more things.
There is a constant loud noise from the waterfall which I didn’t mind but it was loud and not very relaxing. The jacuzzi isn’t very big and a therapy pool which could have been a bit warmer and a medium size pool.
They did not have loungers which is normally what you have at a spa they were more chairs which again wasn’t very relaxing.
We checked into the room, we stayed in Rhododendron which the room was lovely, bathroom could have done with finishing touches like paint coming off in areas etc but didn’t affect our stay.
You can hear every sound of the rooms joined to you. Not sure if we just had loud people around us or you can hear that in every room. Luckily I wear earplugs so didn’t affect my sleep!
The service for me was a massive let down! We ordered x2 drinks at the bar and took 30mins to arrive! There was only a young lad on the bar and looked quite flustered when I asked if I could order a drink.
The service on the evening again was a let down, took them a while to come to our table to order drinks & food then when our mains came out my husbands order was wrong. It took them a further 25mins to sort out. They did bring us some pork scratchings complimentary whilst we waited.
The food was lovely but very overpriced our bill was £141 for x2 glasses of wine, bread & olives, x1 fillet steak (£46) x1 flat iron steak (£34), creamed spinach as a side. After again taking so long for them to clean the plates away and asking if we wanted a dessert we decided to just ask for the bill.
The breakfast again was lovely quality food it was the service again that was a massive let down.
We ordered x2 eggs Benedict (£3pp supplement extra). There was some confusion with this as when it arrived we said we think it’s the gentleman’s on the next table as they had ordered before us. The lady came across quite rude and was adamant it was my husband’s. We then waited for mine for at least 20/25mins by this point my husband had finished his so I had got some of continental breakfast so I could eat with him whilst I was waiting for mine. When talking to other guests this was the same theme for the weekend they had also experienced so not sure if they were just short staffed or inexperienced.
The total stay was around £600 for 1 nights stay with spa, evening meal and breakfast! So I expect outstanding service.
Overall we had a lovely stay despite the service. I will be emailing the hotel to ensure they are aware and ensure no one else is caught off guard of the service that lets the hotel down.
We have had the most wonderful “glo” spa getaway. From the moment we checked in, Grace from reception was attentive and answered all our questions. Our room was well appointed and had an excellent, really powerful rainforest style shower. The spa facilities are good, with two pools, a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There was a photo of an outside pool on the website but there isn’t one here which was a bit misleading, possibly it’s from a partner hotel. The downstairs therapy pool was lovely. They allow bar drinks in the spa area which is a nice touch. We chose to eat in the bar area in the evening and booked a table there. The waiters were friendly and attentive. The cocktails are really good. Our food was delicious. Our sleep was excellent and the bed and pillows are very comfortable. The following day we had a lovely breakfast, again very attentive staff. We both then had a Swedish massage, which was heavenly! Nicola was my therapist, she was fantastic. We chilled out in the relaxation room before using the spa facilities again, before checking out. Really excellent spa break stay. The staff are incredibly professional here and very helpful. Will definitely return.
This place is in need of a makeover. It is tired and rundown , the spa pool was cold and actually everywhere was cold including the restaurant. My treatment times were incorrect, resulting in my treatments being cut short. For the high cost I expected more. My afternoon tea was not good with the most basic sandwiches which were stale and had barely any filling, I was also not given the full afternoon tea as was on a spa day. My therapist was lovely, but the rest of my experience was a real disappointment.
Spent a spa day here and really enjoyed it. We had a deal of £200 each to include 2 treatments pp, afternoon tea and 6 hours spa use.
We had a warm welcome on arrival and a tour of the spa before we got changed and used the pools. It was fairly busy but there was plenty of seating. Pools were warm and the sauna was fantastic.
I had a really great massage from Magdalena, she sorted out my sore back, and a good facial with Maisie.
There are quiet, chill out rooms for when you have had enough of the pools, and staff are very helpful and friendly.
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by Rowhill Utopia spa. It gets criticism in some reviews here but I couldn’t really fault our time there today.
The hotel, in total, is a good place to stay for spa and treatments. Several comments on improvements. We ordered food on our arrival at the bar but it was missed, ultimately the order came through after a long delay.
First night meal at the restaurant was ordered but my partner's meal was not made with lactose free dairy. I had to start my meal while waiting for the hotel to sort out my partner's meal. The restaurant experience for the second night was perfect so 10/10.
The hotel room we stayed was Primrose and it was lovely. As we were staying for two night we expected the room to be attended to while we went out for the second day. Unfortunately the hotel staff did not attend to our room. We did receive an apology during our check out but too little too late.
The spa area is clean and well maintained, but the constant noise of the waterfall may not be to everyone's taste. The treatments we received were good too.
In summary I would recommend the hotel for couple's stay, but would give 3 stars for some of the failings.
Beautiful.
