All children under 12 can only access the Spa pool when accompanied by an adult.

The main house building is beautiful, and it’s very secluded from its surroundings.
I did not like the service at all.
There’s is a certain type of service for foreigners and another one for Portuguese citizens. As a dual citizen, married to a British man, I can personally attest to the difference in treatment when I address the staff in the local language vs in English:
- From being made feel unwelcome in the breakfast patio (outdoors) in a bathrobe having returned from the pool, while there were foreign guests in their bikinis enjoying their morning coffee and were not warned about anything.
- from the unfriendly guest relations staff that looked me up and down and when I asked for informations regarding tours, and her rude response was to ask me if I was actually staying in the hotel
- from the time waiting for room service requests when these are asked in Portuguese vs English
Other relevant remarks:
- lack of proactive refill of in room amenities
- during check out. we had to carry our own bags to reception after having waited 30min, mind you most guests will stay in a main building which is far from the hotel suites

l’accueil à la réception : pas assez souriant et peu explicite sur les équipements et les services possibles. Pour un hôtel 5 étoiles, j’attendais une réception plus professionnelle.
L’hôtel est loin du centre ville et demande une mobilité.

Pestana Palace is absolutely stunning, it’s like staying in a National Trust property, ornate ceilings, original paintings, beautiful furniture, immaculate lush gardens. Staff are friendly and efficient, bedroom was spacious, spotless and comfortable. We will definitely return.
