Renovation disaster
Pros:

I booked a 2-night stay with breakfast and the on-line booking was accepted. Unknown to me however, was that major renovations were to start during my stay including the closure of all breakfast/dining facilities. I was not even told this when I checked in. Hotel should have been closed during such extensive renovation work; it was a building site.

Easy access from the M1 ,good location ,great staff
Pros:

Although there was renovation work being carried out it didn’t detract from our stay, our room was very good ,nice walk in shower ,all the usual facilities,tv ,desk tea, coffee etc etc .Staff were excellent , very friendly and so helpful,Callum was a hoot ,but professional at the same time ,it makes all the difference when you arrive at your venue and you are welcomed with a smile ,and a happy bunch of people looking after us ,we had a good choice at breakfast ,and in the evening we had a very enjoyable meal, and £25 a night for our room was so reasonable,I’m thinking that’s taking into consideration for the refurbishment, but it didn’t affect our stay at all ,and it’s in a good position just 5mile from the M1,very easy access for the accommodation,so we would stay here again when visiting Chesterfield for sure

A good place for a one-night stay
Pros:

The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable, which made for a good night’s sleep. I did run into a small issue when entering the room, as the key instructions didn’t match the lock, so I had to go downstairs to ask for assistance. The receptionist was friendly and polite and the issue was sorted quickly, which I appreciated.

The bathroom was a bit disappointing, as the shower head had very few water holes, making showering quite slow,so I chose not to wash my hair as a result. The toilet reservoir was a bit slow to refill after flushing, which was a minor inconvenience.
Unfortunately, breakfast was the biggest downside. Mouldy bread was available for making toast. Although a staff member apologised and removed it when I pointed it out, it put me off having any baked items.

Overall, it’s a pleasant place for a one-night stay, but I wouldn’t opt for breakfast in the future due to this experience.

Amazing caring staff all of them
Pros:

We had to visit Chesterfield as our Bulldog needed an op to open up his airways and there is a very highly regarded surgeon there and we needed to be nearby the night before and also the night of the surgery and the hotel knew about this and we can only say the staff were absolutely fantastic ( the surgery went well ) they could not have done any more if they had tried although there is refurb going on they gave us a room near a lift as there was risk during the night that we may need to get to the vet urgently but he wanted him to be with us we were 3 minutes away and he was on stand by . I can only thank the team so much for everything I spend over 150 nights away in hotels on business every year but this was a totally different set of requirements and they totally smashed it even letting us park right outside the door in case we needed to get to the vet urgently , offering us complimentary coffee when we were in the lobby awaiting calls from the vets at a very anxious time to constantly asking about him . Thank you so much to all of you.

Cheap price, great location and great staff
Pros:

Stayed here many times when up visiting family when it was Ibis. Just had a 4 night stay with the kids and couldn't fault it. Always bear in mind the price versus what you expect....and I'll be honest, I travel at lot with work and have stayed in hotels across the country that are three/four times the price and classed as budget and fall short. Thankfully the renovation work wasn't going off in full swing when we stayed but it is noted when booking. We had a family room on second floor that had just been renovated....smelt a bit "painty etc" but was expecting that due to the works. Bed was comfy and shower hot. We had breakfast and a meal on one night. Slow service but then it's not overly staffed and didn't mind as we were in no rush. All staff were friendly and couldn't help enough and housekeeping staff were always friendly, chatty and would always assist with any top up/cleaning requests.

Agree with other comments RE crossing the roundabout....but if you come out of the hotel and turn left then you can get the bridge over and adds a few more minutes to your journey....not Ideal for pedestrians but easily manageable. Couldn't fault it and back again in 9 days as I'll be doing another 650 mile round trip back to chessy for the football......why I don't know!

Better than expected
Pros:

After reading previous reviews i was expecting the worse ... but on arrival the foyer /bar was clean and tidy. The lady on reception was exceptionally friendly and helpful, i think she wss the manageress . She explained that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment but arranged for my family to have rooms on 2nd floor which had already been refurbished.. the rooms were clean . Good bedding . Great large walk in shower . Tea and coffee facilities and extra pillows. All the staff were very friendly.. breakfast was buffet style , cooked . Along with toast jams croissants etc all adequate ... would i stay here again ? Most definitely especially for the price we paid .When refurbishment is completed it will be an e cellent chouce for Chesterfield town centre

Undergoing extensive refurbishment
Pros:

3 out of 4 floors being decorated/refurbished actthe time of our stay so hotel smells of paint and workmen everywhere including in the cafe whihc they appear to be using as a breakout area. Shower was a barely warm trickle. Window did not shut properly.
Hotel located on a very busy roundabout which has no facilities for pedestrians to navigate so walking into town was an adventure not to be repeated

Like a building site
Pros:

We stayed in November 10 -12 we were awakened on both mornings by building work being completed outside of our hotel door .

We were left disapointed and wishing we had stayed in the Premier Inn

Central, budget option
Pros:

5 minutes from town centre so good location but next to Rother Way so traffic noise was noticeable. Reception & bar area nice and staff friendly. Room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed but room overall in need of refurbishment...lots of stains on carpet, shower pressure poor and bathroom generally very dated. We had breakfast both mornings..£9.99 was a reasonable price with choice of cereals/croissants etc ...no hot buffet option due to low occupancy but cooked to order & was tasty. Only complaints were that the juice was very watery & the "thick" bread was very thin.

Awful
Pros:

I left my hair straighteners in the room and didn't realise until I was on the way back to London I called ibis and they hadn't been handed in. The cleaners were waiting to go in and I found out they were contractors so they must of knocked them. I've since found out the hotel is permanently closed I never did get my straighteners back

Basic but fine
Pros:

We stayed for one night here, the young man on reception was very polite on our arrival. Our room was fine, however there was no hot water for a shower. The hotel has parking and is a short walk from the town centre over a busy road. Overall a pleasant stay.

It's ok to match the price, but noisy for sleep.
Pros:

The room size is ideal, the staff at the reception is friendly. The location is handy to local bus.

Cons:

The carpet is ok as many reviews said. Some area's carpet in the communal area is quite old.The most uncomfortable thing is the highway beside is really super noisy even when I close the window. Really a disturbance to my sleep.

VERY VERY POOR, RUDE STAFF. Company becoming cheapskates and was an unclean bathroom, awful drainage
Pros:

I am a regular customer and Ibis is always a decent location for me after a night out in the area, I have probably stayed here over 15 times.

Cons:

VERY VERY POOR - RUDE STAFF MEMBER. On attending in the evening, it was hinted by the man that I hadn't paid for my room. Not so rude, but a bit of a bizarre comment as he would've known that the room already paid for on his system.
Even worse was the next day, when after buying coffee mug for the machine (same evening receptionist hadn't informed me of a time limit on the following day's time limit... 10am limit when you check out at 12 and might want a coffee before just checking out... pathetic really). What was most offensive was a large receptionist (saying large for descriptive purposes) rudely shouting across the room to me, informing me about the (half-full, tasteless) coffee. IBIS must have luxury hotels to pay for elsewhere, because to cheapskate on what Was a free coffee, and a nice touch, to charge people (PER MUG not room) and then give them a half full, flavourless cup, is just lowering the standards. Your hotels arent nice enough to get by on quality alone. They lack good customer service and atmosphere and room quality, in my recent experience. Very poor to be treated this way, anyway.
PS the bathroom sink stunk of sewerage.
