Superb - fantastic service and great location
Pros:

My wife and I stayed here at the end of a trip to Southern Africa and we loved it.

The location is great, the rooms are well appointed and spotlessly clean however the real highlight is the level of hospitality. Absolutely everyone we interacted with was warm, friendly and incredibly helpful. We both became ill and needed medical attention and the hotel organised it quickly and, very noticeably, several members of staff afterwards seemed to know we had been unwell and ask how we were recovering. They accommodated special dietary needs, welcomed us back when a flight cancellation delayed us by over a day and we needed a room at short notice and accommodated late check outs.

In addition the concierge helped us to organise a tour of the city and gave us help with any number of questions. We would also draw attention to the door staff who were always so warm and helpful.

In short, we felt welcome, we felt recognised and we would certainly look forward to staying at the Cape Grace again.

NOT THE SAME CAPE GRACE WE HAVE ENJOYED FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS
Pros:

Not the same Cape Grace we have enjoyed for ten years

We are currently staying at the Cape Grace Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location at the V&A Waterfront is wonderful. Cape Town is fantastic, but unfortunately the service during our stay has been disappointing.

We arrived after 10pm following a long journey involving two flights. We had deliberately paid for the room from that day even though we knew we would arrive late, as we wanted to wake up on the first morning of our stay and spend a relaxing day by the pool.

However, when we went down for breakfast on our first morning we were told that due to a conference the pool was closed for the entire day and breakfast on the terrace was also unavailable. There had been no communication about this beforehand. Had we known, we would simply have arrived the following day and saved ourselves the long journey.

After raising this with management we were assured we would be “looked after.” However the following day when we went to the pool we waited nearly two hours without any staff approaching us to offer towels, lounger covers or drinks, while people arriving later – including visitors coming in from outside the hotel with luggage – were immediately attended to.

Breakfast was also disappointing for a hotel at this level. On my first day my eggs Benedict were significantly undercooked, leaving the egg white unpleasantly runny.

We have been coming to this hotel for around ten years and have always valued its warm hospitality. Since becoming part of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the atmosphere now feels far more focused on corporate events than on the experience of paying hotel guests.

A bottle of wine was later sent to my room as a gesture. As I do not drink alone I asked if it could be sent next door to friends travelling with us, but even this simple request could not be accommodated.

I hope management will reflect on this, as it would be a shame for a hotel with such a long-standing reputation to lose the loyal guests who have supported it for many years.

Fairest hotel in the Cape
Pros:

From the moment you arrive, you are made to feel genuinely welcomed and invited — something that is increasingly rare and incredibly special. The warmth of the hospitality, the attentiveness of the team, and the thoughtful details throughout the stay create an experience that feels both effortless and memorable.
My stay was truly exceptional, and I was so appreciative of the kindness and care shown by everyone at the property. The atmosphere strikes a beautiful balance between elegance and comfort, allowing you to immediately relax and feel completely at home. The views of Table Mountain and the Harbour everywhere you walk in the hotel , is so welcoming.
Sometimes “thank you” feels too small to fully express the level of gratitude I have for such a wonderful experience. The generosity and genuine hospitality shown throughout my stay meant more than I can properly put into words.
I left feeling incredibly grateful and already looking forward to returning again.

Slightly heated pool
Pros:

Hotel is luxorious exept the pool water temperature.
Pool is “slightly heated” , around 20C, which is not enough.
Hotel is very expensive so it should have all features first class.

Outstanding location! Customer service second to none! Accommodation excellent.
Pros:

Following a fall, resulting in a hospital visit and fractured collarbone 3 days into our South Africa trip, the Cape Grace team went out of their way to extend our stay while we worked with our travel agent and Insurance company to arrange alternative flights home. We can’t thank the staff and management enough for their care, generosity, attentiveness and support during a difficult time. They all wanted to make us as comfortable as possible - and they did!
Our room was amazing with a harbour view as requested. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and all the staff give us a smile and genuinely asked how we were doing when we walked past them , or, sitting for a drink or meal.
Food options were plentiful, well presented and full of flavour!
Again, we can’t thank the team here at Cape Grace enough - amazing!

5 Star does not do it justice!
Pros:

Amazing! Brilliant! Hard to find the superlatives that do this hotel justice. The attention to detail is second to none. Everything has been thought of, managed and delivered. The staff are exceptional, bar none, from the guys at the front who greet you on arrival and welcome you back with their ‘Welcome Home’ greeting, to the reception staff, the bars and restaurant staff, all are attentive and engaging, without being in your face. The perfect balance! They really care. Our suite was spotlessly clean. The toiletries are high quality as are the robes, towels etc. One small improvement? I prefer jazz or chilled music when sitting by the pool, not uptempo house music, or that could just be my age?

Great physical environment questionable security
Pros:

The hotel is lovely and close to shopping and food. On the whole it would have been a great stay except for the security, which was suspect. I was there with adult children in 3 rooms and the third night we were awoken at 330am but questionably dressed woman (who might have been drinking) with loud knocks on all our doors. The next morning I asked the front desk if they had security cameras and they said yes, and they would report the incident to security. A little while later an assistant manager came to tell me that the woman were not guests of the hotel but guest of a guest and they had forgotten the room number. I asked her how they got to the second floor without the actual guest to which she said she did not know. I asked her how she could possibly not have investigated further to find out how they got to the second floor without a guest. She said she would find out more.
Fifteen or so minutes later she came back and said she was mistaken, they were actually guests of the hotel staying in a room close to mine. I asked her how the story changed and what facts from security made her change her assessment and she could not explain the change in facts. I told her I had no interest in continuing a discussion if she was going to just try to placate me with a story and not have the backup facts to backup the story.
Later on about 30 minutes later the manager an head of security came to see me and told me security was. It breached BUT they were indeed NOT guests of the hotel but guests of a guest. So back to the original story.
I have no clue what the true story is but I can tell you the morning prior when I came down super early (jet lag) the one staff member at the front desk was sleeping.
I would not recommend the hotel to a friend with what I feel was lack security with multiple "stories" when I felt they were just trying to get ahead of the issue so they would not look bad
Sad since the city an the physical structure of the hotel were lovely. I definitely recommend Cape Town to anyone just pick a hotel that takes security more seriously

A Beautiful Property staffed with Friendly People
Pros:

I found across all of South Africa, the friendliness is infectious, and our hotel in Cape Town set the standard.

I have to mention the staff first and foremost. Everyone that was a part of our stay, from the doormen to the porters to the cleaning staff to the wait staff, was unbelievably friendly. In nice places, it can feel forced but not once did it here. Good days, often by name, and follow up inquiries on our adventures around the city.

The room was quite spacious and had everything you would need. The bed was so comfortable we had a great night's sleep each night.

The food at breakfast and in the restaurants (and bar) were above the standards of many fine hotels.

On our trip there was a miscommunication somewhere. When we alerted the hotel to the issue, they went out of their way to make sure to meet expectations. Seldom does everything go right and I know this. What matters is correcting the situation. The team did this with flair. This property is a credit to their portfolio.

Can’t beat the location!
Pros:

This recently refurbished property is absolutely lovely. The rooms have beautiful views of tablet mountain or the marina. Great decks to enjoy a sundowner in privacy or head to the patio of the iconic whiskey bar with a diverse selection. Excellent service, delicious food and a stellar location - what more could one ask for!

Excellent Location, Nice Rooms and Great Staff
Pros:

We stayed at the Cape Grace for 4 nights at the beginning of our African Trip. Great start-a glass of wine while checking in. Tour of facilities before showing us our room which was spacious and well laid out. Comfortable bed and no noise from neighbors. Complimentary breakfast each morning. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner on our first night. Located in the Victoria and Albert Waterfront area which apparently is the most secure location in Capetown. Lots of restaurants and shopping near by.

Loving it here already!
Pros:

We were met with a warm greeting by the hotel staff in a comfy yet elegant hotel lobby. Greeted with a lovely glass of sparkling wine while we completed the registration paperwork and then had a lovely personalized tour of hotels amenities, during which we discovered a discreet bespoke whiskey bar that we look forward to exploring more later. Oh, and with all rooms overlooking the water you cannot get a bad view! Slept like a baby lamb!

A lovely hotel in a lively part of cape town with beautiful views
Pros:

A lovely hotel, helpful staff, amazing breakfast buffet. You have wonderful views of Table Mountain and the Marina from the dining room and library and from many of the rooms.
Downsides - the pool is more like a large plunge pool, you cannot swim up and down, and it’s quite a small area so I imagine is very cramped in summer - September here is spring - so locals felt it too cold to go in. In the summer the public can come to sit and drink /eat there as well, apparently.
Also there is hardly any outside space , the exception is the bascule bar which has some outsides seating but this is overlooking a busy path so not quiet . But atmospheric.
This is a great place to stay to visit the lively thriving V and A waterfront area with shops bars and restaurants , as it’s only a 5 minute walk away and very safe to explore.
The hotel is really helpful , they can arrange free shuttles into town and have good local knowledge to share. They will take you as far as Camps Bay. As Brits we found it easy and cheap to get Ubers anywhere, compared to UK prices.
Every evening they offer free port you can have in the library or terrace area (it’s behind glass) overlooking table mountain and Marina.
We had a beautiful spacious room although it was on the other side of the hotel overlooking boats in dock being overhauled so some clanking at times but we didn’t mind. Overall a wonderful stay and a good base to explore Cape Town.

Incredible Experience
Pros:

This is a 5 star hotel at its finest. The building is beautiful and the architecture and decor is welcoming. The staff is professional, helpful and friendly. They anticipate any need you may have. The food is very good and the availability of different settings to enjoy it is overwhelming. Breakfast? The restaurant has a great set up for a buffet. Casual quiet lunch in the library? Drinks in the library bar. High tea? Dinner back in the restaurant. The guest rooms are very nice and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom is the same with the added luxury of towel warmers. We spent 5 nights there and we really hated to leave. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Pros:

The moment I arrived at Cape Grace, the staff greeted me with a warm smile and genuine care. Lucky and the entire staff at the hotel made my sister and me feel as if we were at home with family. Never before had I stayed at a hotel where I felt as comfortable in a familial environment—the room accommodations, the restaurant, and the drivers were all amazing! I can't say enough about our phenomenal experience. We are already making plans to return next September. I love, love this hotel.

Tranquil stay in a busy city
Pros:

We were fortunate to land at the Cape Grace after arrangements at another hotel fell through. We had a two-bedroom suite and it had tons of space and was elegantly appointed. The entire staff was amazing, ready to cater to any request or just showing friendliness and thoughtfulness. The location is also great - close to the action but far enough away that we didn’t hear all the noise. Highly recommend staying here.
