My husband and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Lindy Renaissance Charleston hotel. The food at Lenoir was superb. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were particularly impressed with the service we received from Mark. Not only was he helpful with our baggage, but he was happy to help us with anything we needed.
TL;DR bathroom smelled like litter box section of cat room in animal shelter, staff lovely, destination fee complex and work to utilize.
Housekeepers
Everyone woman I encountered was so warm, kind and sweet. They would stock and kept all common areas looking pristine.
Destination fee
I think they create a lot of hurdles, rules and challenges to use it. See photos for specifics.
Cat litter box scented bathrooms
Bathroom smelled like a litter box. After checking in and getting to the room I called the front desk. Woman at front desk said she would send someone up. Did not seem odd to her which not sure if this is just an ongoing situation. Gentleman was sent up soon and basically sprayed industrial cleaning supply scent in the bathroom. So then our room smelled so strongly we could taste it basically and it was like a 90s car wash style orange cleaning spray scent. I slept with pjs over my mouth the scent was so overwhelming. They didn’t check the drains etc. Just sprayed that stuff all over the bathroom to mask the smell. He did say sometimes the smell comes up from the toilet or drains. So appears this is a consistent issue.
Smell persisted to day 2, I asked them to please come up and clean bathroom and drains. When we got back from dinner, the scent was present but less strong. The sink was draining better. Shower space still smelled. On both of these occasions the statement that our bathroom smelled like a cat litter box did not seem to illicit any surprise or oddity with the staff. It seems that this is a consistent and or ongoing issue. We had two rooms for five days and our other family members bathroom smelled as well, but not as strongly as ours of the first day.
Between our 2 rooms we spent a little under $5k for a long weekend to enjoy eau de cat litter. It was never resolved, never offered to change our rooms but I honestly just assumed this was in all their rooms at this point.
Bathroom has no fan either so room gets humid and takes a while to dissipate. This may also add to smell.
Bed
Bed does feel better and more comfortable than some other Marriott brands we have stayed at like Moxy and AC. Bedding is all white and lightweight. Thread count was fine. If you need a large snuggly comforter to sleep under they don’t have that and may want to read about AC below.
AC
Room was 74 and humid when we checked it. I turned the temperature down and it didn’t work. Spouse took a look and realized it was on heat mode. Cooled down a couple degrees after making that adjustment. Even if set at 67 our room temp averaged 72. With one evening getting to 69. This includes keeping curtains closed to not let sunlight hear room up. Pretty less than thrilled we had to set it multiple degrees below desired temp to get it out of humid swampy vibes.
Pool
Pretty as depicted. Pool size is accurately represented in photos. Pleasantness of the space depended a bit on who else was there. Most days lovely. Apparently I was not the only one that left the space due to their vibes during my stay. Every staff member by the pool is lovely, helpful, kind and bent over backwards and was attentive to every guest.
High sun times the pool is more filled. Mornings I had better luck of not being too full or no chairs available.
I think employee wise they’ve a really great set of folks working to run the hotel. They’re helpful, cheery and shared some fun anecdotes. All 4 of us on trip agree on this.
At checkout Dean asked about our stay I said it was mixed as we loved the location and staff. However, bathroom was really not fun. I dreaded having to use the restroom. He was surprised by this information and apologized. He asked if we had let them know sooner and he also noted that maintenance should look into it. He was the first person encountered that seemed surprised and actively wanted to resolve. He offered some Bonvoy points. Which is a kind gesture with a value around $60-80 usd. In sum total that’s a super small fractions of the almost 5k we spent there
Like everything in Charleston this hotel is pricey, but well worth it. It has a boutique feel and the room was very nice. It was very convenient to have the Handy and Hot & The Lenoir in the hotel. The pool area is small but very nice, and we appreciated having a pool in this location. The overall location is great and the entire facility is kept clean. The staff were all very welcoming. This will be our destination the next time we are back in Charleston.
This hotel is in a great location! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Mark at valet was really great, we were juggling a lot at check in traveling with a baby and he made sure we had everything we needed! We would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others!
El servicio muy atento y el gimnasio
El no tener acceso a un desayuno como tal, aparte de la pequeña cafetería que habia para comprar y llevar.
Brent was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. He was so kind and provided excellent service while making us feel welcomed.
This hotel is well located just off of King Street. Parking is extra. Breakfast in the lobby is good. Excellent gym with peloton bikes. Very nice lobby and friendly service. The room is a good size. We were in a double room. The beds are very beds are very small.
The location was perfect, but the staff truly made our stay exceptional. From Richard always helping us with luggage and great conversations, to Regina sharing all the best tips and insider knowledge about the hotel and the city (always with a smile), to Charmaine’s big personality and the way she kept our room in tip-top shape, every interaction was outstanding. Thanks to them, our getaway was absolutely wonderful!
Mark was the best bellhop ever!! Excellent service, funny and just all around pleasant guy.
Mark was a wonderful bellman. His friendly nature was so welcoming when we arrived! He made sure we were well taken care of and had everything we needed. I highly recommend this hotel.. wonderful staff and great location!!
Richard is a really terrific guy. He’s helpful, personable and calming. He’s the best.
Mark was great, he gave helpful tips that we used during our trip
Mark and Perry were amazing and helpful.
This hotel location is amazing! Right off of King Street and walking distance to everything. We loved the lobby area and the coffee shop. However, the rooms are not great. Needs a big refresh and deep clean! Our floors were filthy (bottom of our socks black after walking around) , furniture dusty and dirty and none of the outlets attached to the nightstands worked at all (and very dirty). Our blinds were broken could not raise them which was awful bc the room was dark. Not a lot of good lighting. We had a accessible room and the shower was challenging - our entire bathroom floor covered with water. The shower curtain is kind of short.
If you care about location, and an ok room ( thats looks run down) this is a good choice. Great vibe in the lobby, as well.
Hotel facility was very nice and personnel were terrific. The concierge, Lorie, was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable.
For the price of this hotel, we really expected so much more. Luxury and cleanliness were sub par. Upon arrival, the Valet was prompt and attentive. Check-in was quick and we were escorted to our room by a courteous attendant. At first glance, the room was updated and aesthetically pleasing. After getting settled, however, the true colors made their appearance.
The sink barely drained. The shower had black mold a 1/3 of the way up in the corners. The toilet, using both Econ flush and full flush options, only fully flushed half the time. The inside of the mini-fridge was dirty with something spilled, and the surrounding cabinet was full of dust and grime. The tv remote only worked 1/4 of the time… luckily there was a QR code on the television so you could operate it from your phone, but a hassle when trying to use your phone for other purposes. The iron unfortunately leaked, only being half full with water.
While the valet was great when arriving, they seemed understaffed for the rest of the weekend.
The positives of the hotel, though, were we ate at Lenoir, the hotel’s attached restaurant. Both of our meals were delicious and the waitress was great! The gym was clean and nicely equipped. The location was excellent! The staff was very pleasant and friendly. The only complaint about the staff was when we checked out, we would have expressed our dissatisfaction at that point, but weren’t asked how the stay was, or if everything was satisfactory.
If you are looking for a great location, and friendly service, this is a great place to stay. If you are looking for more, like room cleanliness and comfort, I’d recommend elsewhere.
Great place to stay in Charleston. Staff is fantastic especially Richard at front door
Wonderful location, and management does a great job doing what the can for guests.
They also offer umbrellas for daily use for those rainy days in Charleston.
The location is ideal, so centrally located with easy access to so many restaurants and shops. The rooms are on the smaller side, but location makes it worth it.
All staff has been super helpful. The most notable have been the valet guys out front that go beyond pulling up the cars. Seamus and Mark are superb. They have made several item runs for me to and from car and are fast! Bellman was also fantastic.
Our family had the most wonderful experience at The Renaissance hotel for our spring break. The hotel was beautiful and clean. The staff (shoutout to Richard at the front door!) was so kind and helpful. The location of the hotel is centrally located and walking distance to shopping, food, historical sites, etc. We will definitely return.
