Pros:

Great location. Room very comfy. Very quiet which is great in the busy area it is.
Staff nice. Little welcome choccies and prosecco for my husbands birthday which was a lovely surprise!

Cons:

The only thing really was the restaurant. The cocktails were terrible, largely water and they were extortionate. £38 for 2 and honestly there was 30mls of liquid at most. Quite disappointing. Wouldn’t return to the restaurant again as have been a couple of times and same experience each time. But the hotel was nice.

Muy buen hotel. Excelente ubicación
Pros:

Me pareció innecesario

Quite simply outstanding!
Pros:

We had the leavers Prom at the Scotsman last Friday night. I was not looking forward to it as we’d been there about 5 years ago and it hadn’t been great. However, and this is a big however, it was OUTSTANDING. The staff were so attentive, checking in, checking on allergies etc. The food, and they were catering for a huge group, was incredible. The beef daube was melt in the mouth and the dauphinois, delicious. Also, not sure how they managed it with a party so large, but it was piping hot. The venue too was beautiful, like the magical land we want for our kids leaving. So, honestly, can’t recommend highly enough. Book it. Book it now. Another quick shout out to the staff, from the bloke who was in charge to the waiting staff, what a 360. Immense. Thank you.

Rude staff, not so clean rooms
Pros:

The location was great for what we needed

Cons:

Paid £600 to stay a night here, the room was large but there was hair in the bed, the carpet filthy and stained and the robes were so so worn it felt/looked like it had been washed and reused 300 times. Didn’t feel a welcoming atmosphere on check in, Went for a drink after checking in, the host (Asian lady) was incredibly rude and not accommodating I asked if I could have a drink she said there was a large party coming in and I was to sit at the bar, I asked if I could possibly have a lower seat as the bar was practically empty she said no, so I asked the bar tender who was little more helpful and he said it was another 45 mins until this large party was coming in, I was only going to have a quick drink before heading out. So I asked her again and she huffed and puffed and said I have 45 mins and then will have to leave , so I sat down and felt so uncomfortable whilst the host gathered with the other staff chatting away and then waited 20 minutes until someone would take a drink order from me. It was all so weird and uncomfortable I paid £600 a night to stay here and it was absolutely not worth it.

Centrally located but not worth the price
Pros:

Chose the hotel for it's central location and it was. Asked for a room with a decent view- did not get it. Was in a attic like room with no view. The reception amd service staff ranged from completely indifferent to downright unhelpful. The was decent size as was the bathroom. Breakfast was additionally (high) price so didn't try. It is seriously overpriced for what it delivers. Plenty of nicer centrally located options to choose from. Separately- the road outside is under serious construction causing traffic diversion. If you have luggage- there will be detours and you will get no help from the hotel staff.

False Promises, Not Gluten Free
Pros:

THEY ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE, they lie, The manager promised an £80 refund for the awful experience we received and we have still not received it.

Authentic experience to experience the heart of Edinburgh!
Pros:

The location, nothing can beat it! The staff at the reception were just great!

Cons:

It feels a bit outdated, the breakfast options were quite limited and not par with the expectations. I was surprised to see very limited options. You had to wait a lot for the lifts to arrive.

Beautiful wedding day!
Pros:

The venue is absolutely beautiful, exactly as we'd hoped and we're so glad we choose The Scotsman to host our wedding day.

The location really is fantastic. Very convenient for guests arriving and accessible for older guests where there's a lift outside Waverley station.

Klea was a fantastic wedding coordinator. She was very polite, friendly and accommodating. Her attention to detail was on point for everything we wanted on the day.
Ferris (general manager) who we met on the day was very welcoming too.

The food was exceptional. The best chicken liver parfait, best beef dish and best sticky toffee pudding I've ever tasted.

The honeymoon suite was beautiful where a couple of nice touches were left for us (bride and groom). It was the perfect way to spend the first night as a married couple.

Would highly recommend.

Avoid at all cost. Terrible value for money
Pros:

Centrally located and Staff was very helpful, one we checked in they brought our luggage up to the room and then down in the morning as there was no working elevator and a long walk through corridor to the taxi back door.

Cons:

We were given a room in the 8th floor. We had to change an elevator to get to it and it was not working. Very inconvenient if one had luggage which we did. There was no mention of that and paid full price for the room. The floor was unbelievably dirty and stained (photos attached)looked like a cheap motel. The furniture in the sitting area (spacious as it was) also looked worse for wear. If we didn’t have a lot of luggage and an early flight I would have asked for my money back and walked right out. Also construction going on, so we had to enter through back door and is a hike to lug the bags. There was no help.

A pretty poor hotel overall for the price.
Pros:

I thought I was booking a really top notch hotel. I was promised a bottle of prosecco (ok, not so top notch, not promised champagne!) We had to keep reminding them that we didn't get it, we did eventually. We changed rooms as the first we were offered had a nasty smell in the corridor, which did not permeate into the room, luckily. The lift was being changed, it was like a building site, it's my opinion that this part of the hotel should have been closed off whilst the work was being under taken. We were told that as we had to walk down to breakfast, then walk back up due to no elevator, we could change rooms if we liked. We did request to change rooms the following day. The pull out mirror was broken and would not stay in one place. The supplied room slippers were dirty. The view was terrible, no view, only the back of other parts of the hotel. We were promised another room after our day out, which we did get, the room was so much better. However, still no prosecco. Also, the kettle was extremely dangerous, it wobbled on the stand and if filled to the 'max' mark, it boiled over onto the electric stand. The toilet roll holder was also broken and on our final evening, the safe battery must have 'died' as the safe no longer worked. Eventually we got the prosecco after going down to Reception again. The only working lift in the hotel was always busy and often full with hotel trolleys and crates, impossible to get in with luggage sometimes. The staff were extremely nice and professional. We cannot fault the staff at all. Breakfast was lovely, however, the only choice of milk was full fat whole milk, or oat or almond. No semi skimmed or skimmed? I've never known a hotel like that before. So, we drank black tea. We booked a meal in the Grand Cafe, in fact, I booked two evenings. The second evening I cancelled, the service was so poor. People next to us got served before us even though they arrived much later. The choice of vegetarian food was limited, to say the least. Having read the published reviews before writing mine, I did wonder if we stayed at the same hotel!! Yes, the decor is beautiful and the staff exceptional, but I would not recommend the hotel.
