Location
Booked thru booking.com , they charged a lot of money and tried to stick us in a tiny room, and said there were no other rooms available. When we went down and said we were not happy they gave us another bigger room. This is for $600 per night. Next time we will stay at kimpton or princes street
Bon petit déjeuner assez complet
Great location and the penthouse suite had a fabulous balcony overlooking the city. Staff friendly and efficient. Knowing it was a birthday celebration there was complimentary fizz and a message with best wishes. Amelia at reception was a star.
On one of the days the breakfast service seemed a bit slow but perhaps the kitchen was backed up with orders. The food itself was gorgeous.
Gorgeous location close to the Royal Mile and Waverley train station. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
This hotel is a block away from Royal Mile and easy walk to the Edenborough Castle and Mound.
The train station is right across the street, which is very convenient for traveling to other destinations.
Despite being close to the main train station the area clean and safe. Great breakfast buffet. There is also a great restaurant on the first floor.
Great location! Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Great continental breakfast option. Comfortable beds. Good shower with hot water and good water pressure.
Everything was great, room size was large and view was pretty! The carpet in our room could use a deep cleaning soon.
The staff is lovely, location and the building itself is great, breakfast is good variety, the atmosphere is delighting. Rooms are very comfortable.
There is only 1 lift which causes you to wait a little during busy hours.
Location , great bar and restaurant and a special movie theater in house.
Our room didn’t have any drawers to house our clothes.
Proximity and room size
Any stay in a city hotel is now measured by our excellent time at THE SCOTSMAN HOTEL. The elegant, Scottish hospitality offered at THE SCOTSMAN is so very welcome to any traveler. Our room was sleekly designed to balance out the classic character of the building…it was comfortable, roomy, and appointed with every convenience. The shower alone was almost worth the price.
Food and drink at THE GRAND CAFE was so good we returned again and again. The hotel is situated one block of The Royal Mile and about halfway between Edinburgh Castle and The Palace of Holyroodhouse, so everything is accessible to walking.
Beautiful place!
The staff were fabulous. From reception to the house/porter staff. The architecture, furnishings and decor was just stunning. This all added to the atmosphere within the hotel. Our room was spacious and the shower was amazing. The restaurant was also stunning and the talent within the kitchen just completed our stay. The food was cooked and presented to the highest of standards. I will be back.
The outlook wasn't very pleasant as it was a view only of that of other windows and walls as it looked out onto an unused courtyard. The beds although comfy were rather high. Not wanting to sound perdantic this made sitting down to put socks and shoes on a bit of a challenge.
The room was the same as the pictures,
The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great
Very calm during the night for a good rest

Great location in old town. Walkable to everything including train station. Room was good size and bathroom looked newly renovated. Beautiful historical building.
Hallway carpet needs a good cleaning to help with first impression of the property.
