Location and history can’t be beaten. Our room was perfect - looking out over Waverley and the old Balmoral hotel. The hotel had provided prosecco and chocolates to help make my husband’s birthday special. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel in a superb location with fabulous staff, easily comparable to the much vaunted Balmoral
Couldn't fault it

This was my second time staying at this hotel and I was sadly disappointed. The first time in 2023 left me stunned - my room was amazing, the breakfast was delicious and the staff was super helpful and I immediately wanted to go back. This trip was something else and I would recommend you book elsewhere.
I purchased a higher level (more fancy) room this time during the black Friday sale. Upon check in, the room was nice but the "city view" was non-existent compared to my first experience in 2023. The "view" was the construction at the Hilton. It should also be noted that the road was being worked on, so every time, throughout the entire night, a car drove of the road, you heard very loud noises of them going over construction speed bumps. After two nights, I asked to be moved because I couldn't sleep due to the noise and was told the hotel was completely booked and there was no where to put me. After pushing a bit more, they put me in a room that another party had reserved and they hoped they didn't show up. The newer room was quieter but much smaller without a view - but I was just happy I could actually sleep through the night.
The breakfast this time was smaller and the coffee was terrible. Last time felt much more fancy so this was a let down. I ordered room service for dinner one night and the food then was also not great - couldn't finish half of it due to the crummy flavor.
Lastly, I communicated via email weeks before I attended requesting a taxi to the airport upon checkout. The concierge confirmed one had been booked. The night before checkout I called the front desk to ensure this, and they informed me one had never been booked but they would book one for me. Then the morning of check out, I learned that again, no taxi had been booked so they had to call one for me in the moment.
For a hotel that purports to be classy, this was so lackluster. I'm so disappointed - save your money and book something else in town.
We stayed for my husband’s birthday. Amelia greeted us so warmly- an asset to the hotel team. Her pre stay call enabled me to tell her we were staying for my husband’s birthday and order wine for our dining experience. Our room was beautifully decorated and our daughter had organised, with the staff , for balloons and petit fours to be ready for our arrival. Amelia had organised a lovely card with a greeting from the staff plus one from our daughter and son in law. Our meal in the Grand Cafe was lovely, my husband was presented with a Happy Birthday plate of delicious petit fours at the end of our meal. Our stay was made all the more special by the superb staff who looked after us. Thank you.
Comfort, espacio para la ropa, calidad de toallas y sábanas, desayuno, el personal muy amable.La ubicación es excelente.
Really friendly staff, who went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Really clean hotel. Very central.
De locatie is geweldig, mooie kamers en gezellig grand café.
Door omstandigheden (wegwerkzaamheden) was er ‘s nachts veel lawaai aan de straatkant.
Les petites bouteilles de whisky pour un nightcap. Délicieuse attention

Best hotel I think I’ve ever stayed in

Location and comfort of rooms. Breakfast was exceptional
Not their fault but road works outside
Not very welcoming. From the chamber staff, to reception, to mostly everyone in between, we were not treated with the common courtesy that the price tag demands. We are just average people taking a trip in Edinburgh, nobody special and we don’t expected to be treated as if we were. However, from the Luke warm greeting by reception staff yesterday, to the near-cold food provided at breakfast via room service this morning, to the male member of staff who just looked at us with disgust because we were taking the lift down so there wasn’t room for him and his trolley to get in the lift, to the room attendant who would not let us back in our room to use the toilet at 13:00 this afternoon because she was still cleaning it and asked us to come back in ten minutes, and when we did gave a look of irritation that mirrored the male staff member and his trolley in the lift only ten mins before, this is becoming an e prince whereby your presence is treated as though it is an inconvenience. Add this to the noisiness of the outside street at night, and average food, I honestly can say a budget hotel would have facilitated a happier stay. I’d suggest giving this a miss because it isn’t worth the price tag.
Great Hotel with staff who go the extra mile. We have stayed a few times now and each time we were upgraded and again we had an amazing room in the Hotel upgraded at no extra cost, cant fault this Hotel.
