Overall a nice place to stay and i would recommend it. I would certainly like to stay there again.
Pros:

Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the garden which we liked.
Location was excellent - short walk to High Street and Cathedral.
Breakfast was good - just a couple of comments to make - see below

Cons:

Breakfast was good - plenty of choice. Nice fruit but it really needed some nice greek yoghurt to go with that wonderful honey comb - not little tubs of fat free!
And the coffee out of the machine wasn't very nice - flat white.
Fire alarm went off at 5am!!
And staff member came to service the room at 8am when I was in the shower!!

Pros:

This old and historic hotel is perfectly located to explore Winchester and its area.
We loved the wonderful garden which is an oasis in the middle of the city. Breakfast was delicious with a great variety of things to choose from.
Staff is very friendly and we look forward to visiting again.

Terrible experience - good customer service after the stay
Cons:

Myself and my husband booked our 1st wedding anniversary stay at The Winchester Royal for Saturday 2nd May.
When we checked in we noted that there were several guests in the lobby area wearing wedding attire, and then once we had checked in and walked to our room we noticed the wedding was actually happening in the main part of the hotel. At the no point during booking or check in were we advised that there was a function happening at the hotel during our stay, with potential disruption. We went out to have dinner (before the DJ set) and returned to our room at around 10.00pm to realise the bass of the DJ set was literally pumping into our room and we could every single lyric of the songs playing, along with guests making considerable noise (even with windows closed). There was absolutely no way we could get to sleep with the excessive noise.
We decided to wait until after 11.00pm to make a complaint, hoping that the noise would be subside after this (in accordance with general city centre noise restrictions). However, it did not, so I called hotel reception at 11.24pm to express my frustration and ask when the music would be being turned off. The employee was apologetic and advised the music would be turned off at midnight but that they would speak to the DJ and lower the volume in the meantime. This did not happen at all. The volume seemed to even increase after this, which felt totally unnecessary and potentially deliberate. The music eventually turned off just after midnight, but we were kept awake until 1am with the noise of the wedding party finishing up and guests making their way along our corridor shouting, with no effort to respect other guests in the building at all. The hotel manager contacted me 2 days after my stay, apologised and offered compensation in the way of a partial refund. He also offered for us to contact him next time we stay and he will see if he can upgrade us/offer any additional services free of charge. I am pleased with the...
