Taj Bentota Resort & Spa

We thoroughly enjoyed the four days we spent at the Taj Bentota.
The level of service at at this beautiful resort is second to none. Every member of staff was professional, well-trained and exuded genuine warmth. Special thanks has to go to Samantha at the Palms restaurant, who made our holiday extra special. He was ably assisted by his whole team, notably Asiri, Gayan, Sisil and Sam.
The food was always delicious and the wonderful chefs were equally friendly.
A final mention for Sachith, who kept our room spotlessly clean and well-stocked.

It's a beautiful hotel with stunning private beach access. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Best part of the place is that it's absolutely clean despite being a busy place. Chef Dalip Singh was super kind to take care of our breakfast and make us try interesting Sri Lankan food, made sure it's vegetarian, offered the kids food that suit them better. Super hardworking and humble chef. We were privileged to have him around.. Over all Taj Bentota is value for money in all aspects.

From start to finish we had the most incredible holiday. The place, the people, the food, everything was perfect. Beyond our expectations.
Special thanks to Rashan at The Shack, Asiri at Palms and Saman our house keeper, who made our stay extra special. We can’t wait to return.

A lovely hotel with exceptional staff. We arrived for a 4 night stay at the end of our Sri Lankan tour. Due to events in the Middle East, we ended up staying for 8 nights. Nothing was too much trouble and , despite being fully booked, the manager arranged for us to keep our room for the entire time. Every member of staff was welcoming and helpful. The facilities were good with a very good pool area. Kannangara was especially helpful, always polite and cheerful and kept us well hydrated! There is access to a beautiful beach. We walked the length of the beach every morning.
We had all inclusive package for 4 days then HB so used all of the restaurants. The food and service were excellent.
I used the gym too which was good although warm in the afternoon as it wasn’t air conditioned.
A small niggle only for a 10/10 experience

We stayed at the TAJ Bentoto for 4 nights a the end of February 2026.
We had a great room with a side sea view and overlooking the gardens on the 3rd Floor. Which can be confusing as this is the level for the reception area. The pool area is one level up , which was big with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. Added to this the hotel is right on the beach and the warm Indian Ocean. We were breakfast only which had a large variety of options from cooked to fruit to cereal. The bar prices are what you would expect in a 5* hotel and expensive compared to the restaurants outside of the hotel , across the rail track. We paid just under £14.00 for 2 meals and 2 beers and on return to the hotel we had
2 very small red wines ( I know wine is imported ) for nearly £15.00. This wouldn't put us off retuning to this hotel when we revisit Sri Lanka in the future

We had a wonderful stay at Taj Bentota Resort & Spa. While the property is on the older side, it really didn’t matter, it’s well maintained and the overall experience more than makes up for it.

The staff were warm and very hospitable. A special mention to Chef Sarath, who went out of his way to help us with specific meal requests for our 2.5-year-old and always did it with a smile.

The food was excellent (which we found to be true across Sri Lanka in general), and the property has direct access to a beautiful stretch of Bentota beach. The pool was also great and perfect for families.

We had a lovely, relaxed stay and felt the property was very kid-friendly. Overall, a really enjoyable experience and a place we would happily recommend.

Our stay was good but I did not get points added to my innercircle account. They kept saying not eligible and that my invoice was on some other name which is not correct. Very frustrating.

Come here for great hospitality by Indian chef Dalip! Our stay was made better by his personal touch to each dish served.
Also must try kids friendly surfing experience at the beach side.

Fabulous location on the beach. Spacious rooms kept spotless by Milton with magical touches every day. Great variety of food breakfast and dinner. Service with a smile especially from Sam every morning with his cappuccino specials. Super friendly and helpful staff throughout. Amazing hotel with a safe environment outside (watch out for the Tuk Tuks ). You won’t be disappointed

Had 4 nights booked at the end of a 3 week trip travelling SL. I booked through a travel agency so had a good deal price wise.

It is a really good resort but so many things could be made better. Firstly I had a twin room with a sea view booked, it was actually 2 twin beds shoved together with same duvet. When i booked i was specifically asked whether I wanted double or twin beds so that was a bit annoyed and it was meant to be sea view which I'd say was on the cusp. Thats more travel company issue and i didn't say anything at the time so not that bothered otherwise. The room was very nice, the bath/shower needed some tlc though.

Staff were lovely and helpful.

There are tennis courts which they don't really advertise and are hard to see through all the trees. They are in desperate need of an upgrade which is maybe why. Either way we enjoyed playing!

The gym is decent too.

Sunbeds big issue. Classic people putting towels down super early as soon as the pool opens at 8. They seriously need to address this issue because there arent that many and shade is scarce. They dont have enough umbrellas for the sunbeds. The pool guy is quite helpful but it needs policing. Pool is nice other than that. I think it advertises as 2 pools, its not its one with a small kids pool attached.

Food is very nice but does feel quite busy but good setting of the restaurant. On our last day it felt like staff were bearly keeping up with demand.

We had an issue as we asked to extend our stay by 3 nights due to the situation in the middle east and the girl on reception said she had booked us for the 1 night and put a note on about the next night as at the time it was booked. When my friend checked she was told they were booked up! A duty manager booked us into a hotel 20mins away.

Id say reception was not that helpful compared to the rest of the staff. Also my friend got charged £50 for washing!! We also had a phone bill for £200 as was trying to sort out travel home with cancelled flights.

A truly fantastic stay with amazing people who took care of us. Special thanks to our room made Gayan who made our stay even better with his welcoming and fantastic towel animals. Thanks also to the pool team Priyantha, Sampath and Chaturanga who made the pool experience even better.

My stay at Taj Bentota was truly the best experience of my entire trip. The hospitality and warmth shown by the staff made the stay memorable.

A special thanks to Chef Sarath for his wonderful hospitality and the amazing food. His attention to detail and personal interaction with guests made the dining experience exceptional. I would also like to appreciate F&B Manager Koshala for his excellent service and for ensuring everything was perfectly taken care of.

Dining at The Palms Restaurant was another highlight of the stay. The food, ambience, and service were all outstanding.

I would also like to thank the reception team for being extremely helpful and cooperative throughout our stay. They were always ready to assist with a smile and made the check-in and overall experience very smooth.

Overall, my stay at Taj Bentota was fantastic, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable vacation.

Milton made our experience so special, every day he made beautiful towel animals with petals on the bed. We were over the moon with his incredible service and can’t thank him enough. We were lucky enough to meet him and he was so sweet. Aqua aerobics was also fun thank you Jack. We love Milton.

The Taj Resort and Hotel was our last stay as part of a 13 day trip around Sri Lanka.
It is an incredibly luxury resort located on a beautiful stretch of beach just off of Bentota.
I find great beaches are often spoiled by huge volumes of beach goers, but this one had the right balance. Still a fair few people but plenty of space. You can walk for several kilometres in each direction. You also get a superb viewpoint for a perfect sunset.
The staff are incredibly friendly and keen to do all they could for you. We have to mention the lovely Sam and Asiri from the restaurant. We instantly got talking to them and they were very quick to remember our food and drinks preferences. We also really appreciated their little written messages on prepared coffees. We loved those little touches. Thank you both!

My wife and I like to keep busy, the hotel was exceptionally well equipped. We had the opportunity to play some tennis, some table tennis and billiards on the premise. That was a small fraction of things going on.

The rooms were also very well equipped and comfortable.

The food was also excellent. We opted for going a la carte rather than buffet each night which got costs down. You'd often get a complimentary coffee or a small sample of desserts thrown in which was a really nice value add.

If you're looking for a good beach and a peaceful, luxury experience then the Taj will deliver!

Great place for holidays especially with family and friends

We had a wonderful stay at Taj Bentota Resort & Spa and truly loved the experience. The resort has a beautiful atmosphere with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The people are lovely and create such a warm environment from the moment you arrive.

One of our favourite parts of the stay was being able to swim both in the ocean right at the beach and the resort pool each day. It’s a stunning setting and such a great way to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Bentota.

Our room was lovely, comfortable and always spotless thanks to the amazing work of our room attendant Jinendra. Each morning, he surprised us by decorating the bed with flowers and creative towel shapes. Such a thoughtful and clever touch that always made us smile when we returned to the room.

Breakfast was another highlight of our stay. The food was delicious and there was a great variety to enjoy each morning. My personal favourite was the traditional Sri Lankan hoppers — bowl-shaped pancakes made from fermented rice flour and coconut milk, cooked in a special pan that creates crispy edges with a soft centre. A big thank you to the wonderful Chef Nishafha who prepared them so beautifully.

We also want to thank Priyantha, who did an incredible job looking after the pool area. He is such a hard worker, constantly moving and ensuring everything is clean, organised and ready for guests to enjoy.

The day spa was also great. It was incredibly relaxing and the staff were warm, welcoming and attentive. A beautiful space to unwind and recharge. A little expensive, however good quality and lovely environment.

If there was one small improvement to suggest, it would be having a dedicated guest host or WhatsApp point of contact for each guest. This can help visitors better understand the local area, discover experiences nearby and get the most out of their stay.

Overall, we had a fantastic time and are very grateful to the wonderful team who made our stay so enjoyable. Taj Bentota is a beautiful place to relax and experience the warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality.
