Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Chicago-Algonquin by IHG

We arrived early. I went in to ask if they had a place to store my luggage until check-in. Before I could get the words out of my mouth I was cut off and told I arrived too early. Wasn’t asking to check in, just to store my suitcase for a bit. When I finally asked the question, I was cut off again and told there wasn’t room behind the counter and the front desk people didn’t have room for that. Then told I could put them in a conference room. I asked if it was secure and told no. I then asked if the 2 of the 3 rooms I reserved could be near each other so I could be near my blind mother to help her. Again, before I could complete my sentence, I was told the manager had already assigned the rooms and she couldn’t help me. So I gave up with Tina and loaded my bags on a cart. I had to get to a wedding rehearsal. The hotel engineer graciously took our bags and locked them in a conference room.

When we arrived back to the hotel later that evening and were able to check I , the 3 rooms were all VERY separate. (Floors). We got our bags and went to our rooms. I went to get my mom settled first and the roo
She was assigned was not clean or the bed made up. Somehow the front desk person (not Tina) was able to assign another to us. Now I had 2 rooms in the same hallway so we could be near my mom.

Very clean. Very convenient. Excellent breakfast options including hard boiled eggs and Chiobani yogurt. Improved gym hours starting at 5:30am is a plus.

Room was clean, elevators and halls were not. A quick sweep of the elevator would have been nice was there 5 days and was never done. Breakfast nook area: the woman who cleaned wiped down the garbage can, then proceeded to wipe coffee machines n counter with same rag yuck! Tables were poorly cleaned as well. Did not eat breakfast any of the days after seeing that.

This was very clean & quiet. The breakfast was very good.The staff was there to meet all of our needs & very efficient.

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the room looked until I got the microscope out. After further investigation, the bathroom was fairly bright and clean but the shower was full of what looked like urine stains down the middle. Let’s just say I was disgusted. Overall, the hotel looked fine to the naked eye but needed some tlc. Oh well I’ll stay elsewhere next time.

Dave, the front desk person, was very helpful and made our stay even better. Great breakfast choices, very comfortable and a safe location.

The rooms are very clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly. Easy parking. Breakfast was standard continental breakfast. The main thing is, you had a cool/warm place to sleep and got fed. Would use again.

When we initially unpacked we were impressed with the size of the room and the amenities.
However, after returning to our room following our visit with our new grandson I noticed the floor was wet near the air conditioner. The room was also smelling more musty than when we first arrived. We did not complain as it as late. I laid a towel down to absorb water. We told the front desk when we left of the problem.

Need to have air conditioners checked particularly when it is humid and warm. It was loud almost all night.

Definitely enjoyed the breakfast selection in the morning.

PRO’s-Property was nice and clean, had a great continental breakfast.
CON’s- booked on Travelocity and was given the price of $145 for Friday and $145 for Saturday.
When we checked out we were told they charge more on Saturdays. So we were actually charged $304 for Saturday. Waiting on a return call from the property to discuss with a manager.
If they charge more on Saturday why didn’t the price reflect that when we booked it????

elevator 'up' button did not seem to work. took stairs the entire stay. not a huge deal

This hotel was dirty and unhealthy. I will not stay there again and we will not allow our staff to stay at this location.
