Great New Year's Eve stay. Never had to leave the property.
Pros:

We spent the night there with friends on New Years Eve. The lodge is beautiful, the staff was very friendly and professional. The rooms were just remodeled and spottless. The Bar had such a fun atomosphere.

AWFUL!!!!!
Pros:

EVERYTHING WAS BROKEN, Staff gave 3 stories regarding why they would not turn on upper fireplace, annnnd it was freezing in thee entire lodge. All vending machines were out of order . Pool area straight out of horror film. Freezer was locked in the dining room so no desserts available....Arcade was broken.... etc. We've stayed at all the state parks & loved them, but this one was terrible!!!! Some of thee employees were very kind though. It also smelled thick like cigarette smoke from thee employees smoking right outside the lobby in and out all day & night.

Good clean room that met our needs.
Pros:

My wife and I stayed two nights at Deer Creek Lodge in a handicapped accessible room. The bathroom served both of well for showers as we both have issues with mobility. The room was clean and comfortable. We slept well both nights. We both enjoyed the balcony for the great view of the lake--and a bit of the local wildlife. With our senior discount, the stay was inexpensive. The service was very good. It was great that someone came to take out our room cart as we were leaving.

OK Lodge
Pros:

My wife and I stayed at the lodge for a long w/e get away. It's currently undergoing some improvements. So there are some pardon our dust areas. I would say the lodge could use a fresh coat of paint. So hopefully whatever their doing addresses it and makes it look shiny and new.

Overall we had a nice stay. The room was a single king with a balcony. It has the typical amenities TV, Mini fridge, Hairdryer, Coffee marker and so on. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. But the rest of the furniture may have been modern in the 1970's and could use some updating.

Onsite activities. The website says you can rent Kayaks, peddle boats and paddle boards. My wife and I did rent a tandem kayak and had a nice day paddling on the lake. I did see paddle boarders but not peddle boats. You may want to call the lodge to verify the availability of these rentals. If you like boating. You can take a short drive to the marina and rent one. There is dock at the lodge that you can fish from.

Other activities. There is an onsite golf course. Indoor and outdoor pools. Community fire pits. There are trails for a day hiking trip.

The food at the onsite restaurant is average. If you have the time and you like to explore I would suggest seeking out a local restaurant for some of your meals.

Overall not a bad idea for a quick w/e getaway. Hopefully they update it and make it more appealing.

Do not stay at this State Lodge - multiple issues
Pros:

This is an Ohio State lodge in dire need of deep cleaning. Our rooms were very nice and clean and recently renovated but the lodge itself is undergoing a renovation. Expect to see no ceilings or baseboards in areas. Aside from the renovations, there is a real need of just general maintenance. For instance, the yard could be mowed. The concrete surrounding the pool is cracking and in rubble in some areas.

The are some safety concerns as well. Just behind the pool by the walkout patio rooms lives a groundhog who comes out throughout the day. Ferel cats also roam the grounds. The doors from the pool into the lodge by our rooms had poorly working doors. The one side was locked and the other needed brute force to open it. When I mentioned this to management his reply was to use a different door. I let him know no fire department would agree with him. They also had several golf carts that cruised through the pool/seating area. Luckily no one walked out in front of them.

We were celebrating a family vacation so booked several rooms with the group sales agent. Carrie was wonderful to work with and helped me add a night to our reservation and made sure it was attached to our weekend reservation so we wouldn't have to check out and in again. She also told us our rooms would all be in the same wing. Imagine my surprise at check in to be told we would have to check out at 11:00 and recheck in at 4:00 for our three-night stay. Also discovered our rooms were not all in the same wing. Managment didn't offer to help - we ended up staying in our daughter's room that wasn't rented for the first night so we wouldn't have to check out and check in. Carrie in the morning was very helpful and managed to get all of our rooms in the same wing. She was wonderful to work with.

We were also shocked at the lodges policy to allow the locals to purchase day passes. There is no limit to how many passes they sell. Just a heads up that if you are a paying lodge guest you might not be able to set around the pool as the locals might have all the chairs. Mind you the weekend our family stayed was a sold-out weekend. Also, the outdoor pool will only open if there is a lifeguard on duty. Unfortunately for us on Saturday the guard did not make it in. Management did find a replacement that arrived at 12:30 - two and a half hours past the stated opening time. Not sure this was a high priority for management.

Needless to say, we will not be staying at this lodge again nor will we recommend it. Very unfortunate as the lodge is in a beautiful area. They also add a beautification fee on loading and food purchases, as well as a lodging tax ion addition to the sales tax. If the state of Ohio is using these monies for the lodges directly, I am not seeing it in the lodge itself.

Mediocre & overpriced
Pros:

The restaurant is extremely overpriced, slow and you have to check to make sure you got everything. The WiFi doesn’t work and has never worked for the last 4 Summer trips. Considering the price of everything it is just mediocre.

Deer Creek was the breath of fresh air
Pros:

The place is beautiful and the staff is amazing! I think the kids like the ice cream the best! The pool was so fun! The outdoor pool was open so the kids were going back and forth and having so much fun! I highly recommend Deer Creek to anyone that wants a mini getaway!

Loved Deer Creek, Don't believe all the bad reviews!
Pros:

I was almost afraid to take my three grandkids to Deer Creek Lodge after reading all these bad reviews. I am glad we decided to take a chance and take the trip. We just got home and we had A TERRIFIC Memorial day stay.

We stayed for two nights in the room with two bunk beds and two queen beds. It was clean and we enjoyed our stay. They only clean the room daily upon request. The restaurant staff was friendly, we especially liked Eli. The wait times for food were longer than expected. Go early and expect to wait.

The outside pool was nice, clean and not crowded.... and the indoor pool was crowded! The weather was still chilly outide...so that was to be expected. I do think the fire pit charges are way too expensive and need to be adjusted. We heard a lot of other families talking about this.

Pizza in the restaurant was delicious and easy to take back to the room after a long day. The "Take a Hike" IPA beer was also a nice flavorful surprise.

We also rented a pontoon boat at the marina. The lake was beautiful and the boat was in great shape. Highly recommend, we really enjoyed this!

We took a sunset ride around the park to see deer and one night we saw 19! The kids loved that! Sunsets were gorgeous! Beautiful park and a great weekend.

BUMMER TRIP!
Pros:

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??This was our first and last visit to Deer Creek Lodge. Let me number the many disappointments! We were booked for 2 nights, but left after the first night...
1. Room air conditioner was not working- after a few hours, maintenance fixed
2. The entire Lodges Air Conditioner was not working. An employee said it had been down for days.
3. Ate at the Lodge restaurant- wasn't busy but it took almost an hour to get our food.
4.But what put the Icing on the cake was -PARKING LOT VANDALISM!! 6 TO 8 CARS/TRUCKS WERE VANDALIZED! Our car passenger window was smashed into a million pieces! Other cars and trucks had the same damage. Even a pickup truck that was parked in the handicap spot, close to the entrance, was vandalized. The lodge had No parking lot cameras. As far as I know the vandalism is still under investigation.
In all our travels, we have never had such a disappointing stay!
Suggestion -If the Lodge can't afford multiple cameras in the parking lot. one camera, strategically placed to capture all cars, trucks and/or people entering the property would suffice. I'm just sayin...

Do not stay there “Nightmare”
Pros:

We rented two rooms and one cabin for 4 days. The air conditioning did not work in the main lodge. One room was not cleaned and they had to move to another room. The cabin phones did not work no WIFI and the main tv in the living room did not work. The desk was notified and nothing was done in 4 days. What was supposed to be a fun family reunion turned into hot nightmare. I would not recommend this place for anyone.

We wished we had camped here!
Pros:

We loved stopping and checking it out for our next camping trip. The lodge was spacious, and cabins, and campsites looked great! Lots of grounds to explore and wildlife around. We were bummed we didn't get to camp there! It's great for campers, glampers, and lodge folks!

Terrible Staff
Pros:

We arrived a little after 8pm to get a pizza with friends. The bartender is extremely rude!! She told our kids they could not dance by the jute box and had to sit down. We waited over an hour for food and at 930 they told us kids had to leave by 9pm. We would’ve been gone by then if we had our pizza!!!! We never received our food and had to cancel our order and take our hungry kids home!!!! Worst service and staff we’ve ever encountered. Don’t wait your time or money.

eat at this restaurant!
Pros:

don’t eat at this restaurant! we camped at the state park, and decided to eat supper at the lodge, the table was filthy. We had to ask them to clean it, We waited over an hour to get our food, there was no air-conditioning, there were no lights in the dining hall, our drinks were not refilled, and our food was cold when it finally showed up. When the manager asked how we liked our food, we told her our complaints and she did not offer to comp. the meal. believe the 3.6 rating!

Never again!
Pros:

Worst stay ever. We’ve been going to state park lodges for 30 years and this was terrible. Understaffed and the staff that do work there are extremely rude. Waited half an hour at restaurant to be seated but no hostess. Asked for a menu at the bar and was told to find one by the rude bartender. Lifeguards were chasing each other around the pool and not doing their job. Rooms are not that clean and someone needs to vacuum the lobby. Not worth the money they charged to stay there. Never again!

This stay sucked
Pros:

We arrive to the lodge just to find out that the pool is down, the internet is slow, and the refridgerator isn't cold. You would think they would have said something on the phone but they did not. My kids love the pool that's why we came. Why would they not tell us that the pool was out???

Cleanliness needs stepped up
Pros:

The floors are the dirtiest thing. They could not have been mopped ever. My barefeet were black within minutes of being inside and unloading stuff to bring in the cabin. No wifi and our cable was out the whole time. Outdoor pool was nice. Got pizza from the bar and it was very good. Rented a boat from the marina and the girls in there were very nice and helpful. Decided to get the breakfast buffet before we checked out and most of it was cold and the staff was very scattered and unhelpful. I've been coming to Deer Creek since I was a little kid and always had a great time. I've tried bringing my kids here numerous times hoping it was just a fluke but it just gets dirtier each time.

Cabin vacation
Pros:

This review is on the CABINS!
The cabins are situated about a quarter of a mile away from the lodge in Conf center. These are individual two bedroom cabins, with a kitchen, eating area & Living Room. Each come with a screened in porch. The bedrooms consist of a queen size bed, and the other bedroom is four bunkbeds. There is only one bathroom in the cabin. The cabin functioned very well for us. It is air-conditioned! It worked very well! The kitchen was well equipped, editors, a full size refrigerator. I would note that this location is proximately 25 to 30 minutes from the nearest town, Washington courthouse!

Disgusting
Pros:

I travel a lot for business and pleasure and this was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed. Outlets hanging off walls and unworkable, curtains falling down, dirty room. But we had it good. Other family members had rooms that had not been cleaned - at all!- and had dirty bedding on their beds. They tried to get help at the front desk and they were told they were understaffed and couldn't clean them. Other family stayed at the Harding Cabin and it was not cleaned and the bedding was filthy (blood, hair, saliva, etc.). The family across from us was moved to another room because of a rodent problem. Do not stay here. It is filthy and they don't care. The staff had a nasty attitude when they were asked for help. Just disgusting. They were doing a lot of work outside - they should be taking care of the accommodations or paying staff more so they have housekeepers. Also, they charge a "decoration" fee. WTH?! Find another resort and don't waste your money.

NOT WORTH THE PRICE! FILTHY CABINS THAT SMELL LIKE PUTRID SULFER.
Pros:

Check in was at 4pm, our room wasn’t ready until almost 8pm. Staff said their was a mix up with the cabins and apologized yet their entire staff acted very nonchalant about it and never offered to make it right. This was especially frustrating because we had a car sick kid who now after driving hours was forced to wait in the car an additional 2 hours after arriving 2 hours past our check in time.

A/C didn’t work, had to trouble shoot the power breakers until we figured out that many of them had been turned off and never back on. The cabin was extremely dirty, coffee pot was filled with mold from where the last visitors made coffee and never emptied the coffee pot.. apparently the cleaners don’t do this either?

Spiders EVERYWHERE inside the cabin.

Mouse poop in all the cabinets .

For $320 a night I expected so much more. The views are beautiful but had we known the state the cabins would be in we would have just brought the tent.

Will not book here again, place desperately needs new management.
