Mercure Catania Excelsior

We had to change rooms 3 times. The two bed room was not ready. They gave use a second room with two beds the door lock was broken so we had to change again. The third room was not set up with towels pillows etc. the rugs in this room were filthy with stains. They were not well vacuumed.

The hotel is a little scruffy from the out side but inside the bar, reception and dinning area its very nice the rooms are well equipped but again a little tired the staff were excellent and very frindly would definitely stay here again and good value for money

Staff failed to provide enough information about parking resulting in us being fined, and then couldn't even assist us to pay the fine which was in Italian (we are Australian) - they outright accepted zero responsibility whatsoever and were extremely unhelpful. Would NEVER stay here again. It was appalling and disgusting behaviour from so called service professionals. Very disappointed.

Stayed 3 nights. Old carpets, old beds but linens were great. Staff is wonderful. Underground parking (15 euro/day) is a hassle. You have to get off your car to push a button and call for the front desk to open the gate. No stairs from the garage to the lobby, only elevator. I had to get something from my car but the elevator was broken. Breakfast is okay.

The room was nice but the air conditioning was not working properly.

The hotel is pleasant and the staff excellent - I experienced a really high level of service. I had a room overlooking Piazza Giovanni Verga, and I had a wonderful view of Mount Etna in the background.

The room was spacious and comfortable with classical furniture. The carpets need to be changed, and the bathroom needs some upgrading, but apart from that everything was great.

My only disappointment was with the breakfast. Due to Covid measures, there is no buffet, which is totally understandable, however, I wasn't expecting to be served cold scrambled eggs on a cardboard plate. The cutlery, glasses, etc were (biodegradable) plastic, and when I queried, they said "temporary hygiene measures", but it was very disappointing. Plates and cutlery can be washed at high temperatures. Much better than all this waste.

The hotel has a garage where you can park (€15 per day), and the square right in front of it has plenty of parking spaces. Both options are very convenient.

Went in August 2020, Hotel staff were great, breakfast was also nice however had table service due to Covid. (Less choice than buffet) Hotel and room itself was nice, weather was amazing 30+ heat and not a cloud in the sky. Beach is 4km away (short taxi drive) sea is also like a bath in Catania due to how shallow it is. Quiet town but got enough bars and lively spots in the evening. Overall nice time away, would recommend 3/4 days.

The place is tired and needs refreshing. The staff are equally uninspiring - nothing seemed to come
naturally for example wiFi which is free was not offered and required vouchers etc. The room felt tatty and the bathroom was unwelcoming with silicone along bath etc peeling off.
Pity. It’s in a prime location with good access to parking and Centre - Accor could do much better

The hotel was in excellent condition and the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The room was not clean and wallpaper was peeling off. The overall surrounding city as well made us feel unsafe

Plenty of hot water, bar was convenient, area is perfect to walk to Umberto then to restaurants/stores. I needed help getting my two huge suitcases from my car and the porter was great. Car garage was very secure. Very quiet on my inside room. It is within walking distance to Elephant Square for most people.

Older hotel that needs a bit more of work done. Fantastic central area and nice sized rooms but the staff seems overwhelmed and understaffed. It took 25 minutes to check in and another 25 minutes to get my bill upon departure.

Spacious rooms, cleaned everyday, good breakfast, a bus stop nearby from where you can catch bus to most parts of the town and also Alibus has a stop at that point which makes it very easy to travel from and to the airport.
Reception staff and bar staff very helpful.
Plenty of restaurants around the hotel.
Walkable distance to the town centre.
And the room had a beautiful view of Mt. Etna.
Will definitely recommend this hotel.

Comfortable hotel in central location about 100m from the airport shuttle bus stop Venga .( Alibus runs every 15 minutes to/from airport 4euro).
The restaurant is very nice with good choice for evening meals and breakfast is very good.
The rooms are spacious, very clean and comfortable.
I will use again and can recommend.
