I’ve found this review quite hard to write because I want to give credit to the hotel for its many plus points and to give fellow holidaymakers some insights concerning some of it’s lesser strengths.
Logically, I should start with the hotel, but because they’re so good I want to highlight the staff, all of the staff. They’re excellent, professional, polite and efficient. For example, I had 2 problems with my phone and network, and on both occasions two of the younger members of the reception team came to my rescue. They didn’t just grab my phone and sort it, but politely asked my permission to open pages and both then showed me their suggested fix. Great!
Now the hotel. I like its location on the edge of the resort away from the bustle. It’s a bit of a hike up the hill but no real problem. It’s big, modern and spacious, and the room I was in was the same. And the place was very clean, near spotless. My room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the road and there was a bit of noise but nothing much. However, there can be quite a bit of road noise at the lower pool area.
So why my dilemma about rating the hotel? Foremost is the problem of the too frequent tepid buffet meals which is a challenge for any hotel of this size. The cold selection was very good indeed with plenty of choice, but the hot food just wasn’t hot, it was often warm at best and tepid at worst. I gave up with the “hot” buffet after 3 days and adopted a different strategy. I dined after the rush and sat near the chef who was cooking fresh chicken, steak and fish to order, and I watched for the chips coming straight out of the fryer. Result! I also used the Casa Nostra Italian restaurant which was very good and where my 3 course meal and a couple of glasses of vino was about 50 euros.
Now an irritation. I was all-inclusive and it was annoying to see people who I knew not to be on the same deal as me getting away without paying, and it was annoying to see a blind eye being turned to an all-inclusive guest ordering a bottle of wine for non all-inclusive guests. Something for the hotel to address, I would suggest. It may be that hotel profits are large enough not to be bothered. If so, then good luck to you, but please don’t underestimate the ill-feeling it creates in those who play fairly.
Also be aware that all-inclusive has its limitations here. Do your research so that you fully understand what all-inclusive covers and what it doesn’t.
And finally, dress code. I thought that the hotel required smart casual for evening dining. If so, then management should enforce it. One night I sat next to a guy in a crumpled t-shirt, dirty above the knee cargo shorts, striped socks and dirty trainers. And others also fell short. That said, by far most of the guests did comply.
This hotel is a weird mix of rightful high aspiration but matched by some shortcomings and a mixed adult clientele. It certainly deserves a high score but, for me, sadly loses a star for the “hot” buffet and a half for the other shortcomings, I’ve mentioned above. Three and a half stars feels a bit harsh for a very good hotel that I liked and mostly enjoyed, but I’m honest. However, I’m adding back half a star for the truly excellent staff who are in the top few of hotels that I’ve stayed in over very many years of travelling, so that’s an overall 4 which feels right.
Average hotel
Pool always crowded if you go in the afternoon . Was cool when we visited but only 1 towel is allowed and you are not allowed to bring towels from the room . Don’t know what you do if you fancy a swim
Breakfast was not consistent. Sometimes good …others days not so good .
No water supplied in the room and nearest supermarket down a big hill .
Rooms large but basic
Some staff good but others felt like you were disturbing them if you asked for anything .
Breakfast set out like a canteen .
Gym no air con so very stuffy but adequate machines etc
Hotel is clean
We stayed for four weeks at the Melia Jardines del Teide, a retired couple wanting to escape the British winter. Hotel cleanliness, staff, and facilities excellent. Particularly enjoyed the activities and entertainment. We took part in reiki, stretching, Latin dance, yoga, water meditation, aqua fitness, glass jewellery, candle making, Spanish language, Canaries traditions and aloe vera workshop. There was no additional charge for any class/ equipment.
We were booked on the Level, half-board, and this worked well for us. The Level lounge was a great experience for breakfast and the complimentary refreshments, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day were appreciated. The Level dining staff were always welcoming and efficient, even at times when it appeared the the Level had been over-booked in our last week.
We would particularly like to commend Luisa and Kevin of the entertainment staff, who were superb.
We would definitely return.
Sea view rooms were lovely.
Breakfast was really good
The black at the bottom of the pool.old paint.
Lots of layers to the hotel.
5 star hotel won't do anything for you unless money is involved. Don't care about people who have paid good money to stay there. You are allowed 1 towel each at the pool. No water supplied in rooms. Toilet roll like sand paper . Beds hard as rocks Amenities in room not replenished daily .
Breakfast fruit can't even supply daily fruit that is in season.
Fine if you want a cooked breakfast.
Not a slight bit of luxury anywhere in this hotel
Spent a week at the hotel in a pool access Level room. Hotel facilities were great and the staff were excellent. We were on all inclusive, the meals offered a fantastic selection and the salad bar at lunch and dinner was really good. Only real food gripe was the hot meal choices at dinner which were very basic and (due to the nature of buffet) became dry and overcooked. My only real complaint is the hotel charging for the minibar which is totally idiotic when on all inclusive?!! My wife asked for 2 small bottles of water when room service knocked one evening and we were charge EUR 9 on check out.
Das Essen war ok!
Der Service
The staff in bar
We had ants in our room and the flue off the boiler outside close to balcony they only offered a change of room at a cost of 420 Euros we we had to pay or stay with the ants
Outstanding hotel. We selected a level room with sea views which was spacious, well furnished and extremely comfortable. The staff are quite exceptional and are always willing to go that extra mile. They really make the hotel experience memorable.
An exceptionally clean well kept hotel in our opinion. The staff are plentiful and all very friendly and helpful. The views from the bars and our room were amazing. We were bed & breakfast and were blown away with the amazing choices for breakfast in the main buffet restaurant, it did not feel like anything was made in mass, it was quite the opposite. Best 5 star we’ve stayed at in Tenerife or Spain. Will definitely be going back. Our room was spacious and spotless, just perfect for our 4 night winter getaway.
Just returned from a fantastic week at the Melia Jardines del Teide (the level) .
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful . Great location to explore Tenerife with easy access to El Duque beach and restaurants . Cool relaxed atmosphere which really enhanced our stay . This is our second time at a Melia hotel in Spain and it's definitely a brand that we will use again. A fabulous week away in the sunshine .
My wife and I stayed one week in The Level and were delighted with everything about the hotel. What sets it apart from many other hotels is the genuine warmth, competence, enthusiasm and consummate skill of the staff. From the managers to the waiting staff they were conspicuously anxious to do their best for all their guests. The hotel is very well run. We had a lovely room and stayed half board. The food was very good and varied. All in all a really wonderful experience and we shall be back.
