This stay was a getaway with my cousin to celebrate her birthday. The entire room had a foul smell throughout the 4 day 3 night stay. It was brought to the attention of the front desk. In turn, housekeeping came once to spray the room and to pour PineSol down the sink drain. However, the smell remained. Additionally, the very low-to-the-ground toilet randomly flushed throughout the night. Also, my cousin, the birthday girl, had the A/C dripping on her while she showered. Our grievances were shared with the manager upon checkout and he compensated us by removing a night of parking charges ($50 + tax) and comping a $31 room charge that mysteriously appeared on my tab at checkout. The bottom line is my cousin and I tolerated quite a few disappointments through our stay. This was supposed to be an in-town getaway (or staycation) for us but we would have been better off and less inconvenienced if we just stayed at home. Please make the necessary adjustments to the service and accommodations to offer better experiences to your guests.
Needs updating
Great location and a very close drive to Daikin Park. The rooms were spacious, and check-in was smooth. However, our room was right by the elevator and the walls were very thin, so you could hear the elevator going up and down all night, which made it difficult to sleep. The electrical outlets also did not work well.
Adam was amazing at the bar. Friendly, efficient and the drinksssss *chefs kiss* ! The VA natives breezing through town thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Whitehall.
The room was comfortable and a good size. Everything was clean, and housekeeping did a great job maintaining the room throughout the stay. The reception team was amazing — very friendly and helpful. A special thank you to John, who welcomed us on the first day and gave us many invaluable tips and support.
I would highly appreciate an improved breakfast offering. A buffet-style (self-service) breakfast with more choice would make the experience much better.
Cleanliness, water pressure
Shower was small, AC was not the coolest
John at the front desk was amazing Our stay was wonderful Every staff member was exceptional and took care of all our needs promptly and efficiently Would stay here again if in Houston
Rooms are ugly and dirty. Cockroaches in the room, the floor is cracked and dirty, valet is 50$ per night and the services are very bad. In 3 nights and parked the car couple of times, none of them open the door or help with the baggages. 0 interest in helping or smiling.
This is our second year traveling to Houston to attend a robotics competition, we stayed at the Whitehall last year and had no issues. This year was different, the room we booked was the "Presidential Suite" on the top floor, we thought this would be acceptable for our family of four. The booking says it sleeps 4, however it only has one king size bed? The hotel suggested that we bring our own bed for our twin girls, seeing that this was the last room available our plan was to go to Target and buy an air bed. To the credit of the Hotel they did have one roll away bed available. Day 1: we found that the shower didn't look clean, the grout is dirty, and a clogged drain that would pool water, maintenance did fix it the next morning. The floor into the living room area had a 3 inch by 1/2 inch missing chunk of plank flooring. The wallpaper is old and shows wear from over the years. Day 2: We appreciate that they have a shuttle ( 1 out of 2 Hotels in the downtown area that have this service), but it feels like the drivers do not care about the time they leave and our safety. We had an incident with our pickup location; the driver parked across the street and wanted us to run across oncoming traffic, he motioned us to come over on a green light and Houston drivers zipping by? My wife lost her cool with this dangerous request, she was so stressed and angry. Day 3: The ceiling in this room was patchwork from over the years of repair and a hole in the ceiling was actively dripping water on the marble tile flooring, not sure if it was the condensation from the HVAC (which is terribly loud), or it had rained the day before (perhaps the roof had a leak). We found clear bits of tape on the ceiling and walls in the bedroom from a previous guest (perhaps from a sign they had hung)? Fake flower pedals were found throughout the room. Previous guest garbage found under the bed. We joked that the room should be renamed because it is definitely not "Presidential". We are not fancy people, we just expect to have things clean and in order.
The service at the hotel restaurant was awful, last year it was great. This year you need to place your order at the bar then find a table. If you need anything you need to get up and go to the bar to order. The quality of the food was fine, and the taste was very good on some of the items we ordered. We ate four times (two breakfasts and two dinners) our first morning we were late for an event due to a 30-40 minute wait for simple breakfast items. That same night the waited an hour for our dinner, this made my wife and girls angry. Last year breakfast was included with our stay this year we had to pay?
The general apathy by the staff is the most frustrating thing, no emotion, no care to make things right.
The staff, beds, and breakfast were great. However, we did have an issue with our room and they couldn't help us. We ended up getting a handicap room, which isn't a big deal except for the shower and the fact that using the shower floods the bathroom. We went downstairs to talk to the front desk and it's a known issue. The kind lady gave me five towels to help soak up all the water in the floor. I asked for another room with two beds or a king with a rollout but there was no availability. I asked again the next day but no help. They were empathetic to the issue but there's nothing they could do. If you wind up in this situation there, here are some pictures. I suppose the best tip I can give is get five to seven extra towels and then build a sandbag type wall with them.
Terrific location friendly staff easy booking
WiFi
The people that work here are great and accommodating for the most part. The workers in the restaurant and the front was absolutely amazing and refreshing. But the rooms are extremely outdated. The WIFI didn't work in the hotel at all, and for the amount of money being spent it was definitely not worth it at all. The main floor and the restaurant are the saving grace for this hotel. You are essentially paying for location but as far as expectations of a certain standard for a hotel room, they are definitely missing the mark. If and when I do return to Houston, I would not stay at this hotel. I would visit the crew in the restaurant simply because the connection and vibe was there and the food was very good. You can take a chance and see for yourself but I would recommend looking else where, especially since there is not much in the area except office buildings. No parks, no benches, no restaurants, absolutely nothing.
Beautiful and clean!
Only valet available but valet was very quick!
Absolutely amazing location and the bed was very comfortable. Will definitely be back.
We grabbed dinner and a couple drinks at Part & Parcel the two evenings we were in town. Adam was great, trying to find the TV channel for the game, though they didn't have it. The outdoor seating is lovely, with all the hustle and bustle of the big city.
3 couples spent a weekend at the Whitehall Houston for a NY Yankee game. The hotel was clean and very accommodating. The staff was friendly with James being the highlight of our stay. This young man was extremely friendly, polite and a wealth of knowledge
We really enjoyed this bar for a catch up with friends. Adam and Jose are fantastic bartenders and the selection is great!
Beautiful hotel but the walls are fairly thin. The furniture in our room was pretty chipped up and I think the hotel could do with a little bit of a remodel but for the money it was pretty good.
Great hotel and stay at the Whitehall Houston. It was very elegant and clean. The value of my stay was worth what I paid for. The room was cozy and comfortable for my one night stay. It is perfectly located in downtown Houston where you find a hotel that is close to the Astros's baseball stadium yet you can get away to a comfortable hotel. The service was amazing, with the staff at the lobby was very cordial and very respectful. We really enjoyed our stay and we look forward to coming back.
