Perfect hotel shame about the breakfast
Pros:

The property was lovely, very clean and comfortable.

Cons:

Unfortunately a bit of a minus regarding food. We had burger and chips but was served on a very small board with paper under the food, most of the food fell off onto the table i cut through paper! So not a practical serving plate at all. But the food was absolutely gorgeous

Breakfast was a different story, buffet style, but to be honest it was aweful the eggs inedible so over cooked and burnt dried up bacon and all was swimming in fat, nit nice. Did raise this with management who were very upset about it especially when i showed photos of it. We were given a refund for both breakfasts and were going to address this issue

Pros:

We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The Diner was great and the staff very friendly and welcoming.

Big , clean and professional run hotel
Pros:

Very big hotel which was maintained better than others. We stayed in the family room which was very spacious , clean with lots of condiments ( tea / coffee etc ) ideal for a stop over.

It would’ve been perfect, but for one critical error
Pros:

We stayed one night. We can say that we were delighted with the location, room, restaurant and service from the restaurant and bar staff. It is a truly beautiful place to stay, and we would love to stay again.

However, upon our arrival, something happened that immediately soured the experience and it means that the likelihood of our staying again is remote.

My wife had booked the room, and once she had confirmed her name and been given the key card, the man on reception asked her to forward her booking confirmation with Hotels.com to the hotel’s email address. The reason, we were told, was that the deal we got through Hotels.com shouldn’t have been available to us through that booking site. Apparently, it should be just for people who are staying at least two nights, and we were only staying one night.

Upon hearing this, I immediately felt that we were not being welcomed to the hotel. It was as though we’d somehow “pulled a fast one” and gained entry under false pretenses.

My wife agreed to forward the email, but was puzzled and informed the man: “We actually wanted to book two nights but you didn’t have availability.”

At this point, I thought: surely the guy on reception will apologise out of sheer embarrassment, if nothing else…but this did not happen.

I find it unfathomable that he thought it acceptable to raise this matter with us in the first place. It is surely the kind of “behind the scenes” glitch that the hotel management should take up with the third party booking website. As the guests, we should simply have been welcomed to the hotel, full stop.

I didn’t raise my objection to this unacceptable customer care at the time because I didn’t wish to upset my wife and children. However, days later, notwithstanding the otherwise excellent service and accommodation, I still find myself astonished that this exchange occurred. I would urge the owners to provide training to this staff member on how to welcome guests. Alternatively, if this is how staff are supposed to treat guests, then I would encourage the owners to revise their training.
