We spent the weekend there as we were attending the Masonic Ladies Night. We arrived Friday afternoon and were given our key to a very nice room on the second floor. An evening meal had been arranged included in our price. Five of the group had a starter and I decided to skip the starter and have a dessert. We were given a table at the end of the restaurant, unfortunately the lighting was nor very good and to read the menu our friend had to put his mobile torch to be able to read the menu, we did ask if it was possible to supply a light but this did not appear until after the main meal. As I was only one having a dessert I decided to have the meringue with mixed fruits, it arrived and it was not very nice, the meringue topping was soggy because the soft fruits had been placed on top with a sorbet on top of that. The Saturday banquet was a set meal, my husband and I had the mackerel and salad which was acceptable, the main meal was lamb, we were expecting it to be slices of lamb with veg and mashed potatoes. The lamp was pulled lamb made into a burger overpowered with thyme, tough tender broccoli spears that you couldn't cut the stems. The dessert for myself and husband was a sticky toffee pudding, it wasn't bad but not enough caramel sauce. Breakfast was the usual buffet that is often supplied at hotels.
I am a member at the Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa and felt it was important to share my experience, specifically regarding the floor hygiene in the sauna and steam room areas.
I always find the floors in both wet areas to be in an extremely concerning condition. There was a strong sewer-like odour that was impossible to ignore, and the visible build-up on the floor surfaces raised serious worries about cleanliness and potential bacterial growth. For facilities that involve high humidity and bare feet, this felt especially alarming. The Sauna is incessantly broken yet this is not reflected in my monthly membership fees, there are no deductions for any of their inconveniences.
What stands out to me is that the spa seemed very focused on maximising weekend guest numbers, yet the overall cleanliness didn’t appear to match the level of foot traffic. From my perspective, the wet areas did not seem to receive the thorough deep cleaning that public wellness facilities should maintain—particularly given the health and safety expectations for public pool, spa, and steam room environments.
As a member, I believe these issues deserve urgent attention to ensure the wellbeing and safety of everyone using their facilities.
Room nice, hotel nice and the facilities were great.
However, our room was cold! There was a radiator but it didn't give much heat and had to use a plug in electric heater.
A lovely, peaceful stay. Nice to use the spa facilities as well. Staff very friendly. I stayed in a standard room which was a good size and very comfortable.
Our stay was a treat for us from Christmas just to have a night away together. It was lovely relaxing in the pool, the temperature of the pool could have been a little warmer. The dinner service and food provided was 10/10. Atmosphere was perfect. The cleanliness throughout the hotel was excellent. The room was perfect and the bed was firm but very comfortable. We throughly enjoyed the breakfast service also. The breakfast set us up for the day. The sweet treat at breakfast of the chocolate muffins were delicious. Overall, very pleased with stay. We recommended our parents to stay there and they have booked to go in the next couple of weeks.
Some nice touches ( free drinks in mini-bar) and great service and lovely spacious room. Excellent staff in dining room and reception
Stayed here over the weekend for a 60th wedding anniversary family celebration. We were in the Queens function room and the staff who set up the tables etc were excellent. I would like to give a special mention to Sam Gibbons who was excellent and the young man who helped to set everything. up. The hot and cold buffet was very good too and everyone enjoyed it.
Our room was lovely too and had everything you could need. Nice comfy bed, good en suite and shower. Large tv on the wall and nice comfortable armchairs. We had a problem with our central heating but it was rectified by a staff member bringing us an electric radiator within minutes. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice and a very nice bar area with outside seating in the garden. We recommend this lovely hotel and we will definitely stay there again.
I booked this for myself and my daughter for some quality time together. It was a lovely venue, a wonderful room, a comfortable bed, nicely presented room. We had the pleasure of a delicious dinner with a lovely place for us to dine in. The spa was clean and was a great atmosphere to relax. Finished with a yummy breakfast in the morning. A wonderful few days with my daughter, thanks for making it special in your lovely hotel.
Four of us went, it was a lovely relaxing trip. Nice and clean. Treatments lovely. The restaurant food was excellent. Plenty of space to sit and chat with friends. The grounds a nice but not in a countryside setting.
The room was comfortable but very warm and no air conditioning. Food in the bar and restaurant was perfectly nice, but nothing spectacular. Please get rid of the 80s wine glasses in the bar - definitely how to spoil a nice glass of Sauvignon!
The most disappointing part was the pool and spa area. Check-in for our room was 3pm, but the hotel allows children into the pool from 3pm - 7pm. Add to this that families using the changing rooms and toilets left them so disgustingly dirty and smelly that we had to go back to our rooms to use the toilet. Perhaps consider offering free early check for people on what is advertised as an adult break. Overall, the hotel was ok but the situation with the pool and spa spoilt the day.
I was the host for a reunion. This was attended by 45 guests.
Guests booked their bedrooms seperately. During the event i received excellant feedback about the hotel from my guests. Everyone seemed satisfied with their bedrooms.
I was very happy with my bedroom.
I worked with the manager Amanda during previous weeks to ensure the event was a success. I found Amanda very obliging helpful and professional and this was key to a great experience. As was Kat and the rest of the staff at the evening dinners.
I had heard that the hotel had a good reputation, it certainly did live up to that. There were many other events happening during the days I stayed. Every member of staff in reception, the bar, dining room, cleaning, preparing rooms ready for events etc were happy welcoming and smiling. The Belfry Spa hotel is a very happy place - and is a credit to all of you.
Thankyou
We went for a spa break
It was overall a really good experience
The rooms were clean and comfortable . The shower head leaked but apart from that it was very good.
The service was great and the staff were friendly.
The food was good
The spa anc facilities and treatment were good .
Overall it was excellent value for money and I would recommend .
Great hotel , clean and tidy , staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms have everything you need and comfy beds. Bathroom had bath and shower separately.
Following staff that I came across were attentive and showed care for guests
Cleaner - Megan
Restaurant - Milly , Oxkana
Check in/out - Patrycja
As a group we have collectively stayed here over 10 times, it's a chilled hotel with spa facilities. Massage was great. Mix up with the rooms which was very frustrating and also had to pour our own wine, at £49 a bottle we should be asked to check the taste in case of corking. Was meant to get a partial refund but still waiting for the call...
We stayed for my partners birthday and upgraded to a king suite. The room was spacious and clean and we liked the free minibar, however the table in the sitting area was very shabby and looked out of place and the bed was so squeaky that I was scared to move in fear of waking my partner up. If id have paid the £250 they ask for that room I would have been very disappointed. The spa was ok however let down by children's swimming lessons being held there which we didnt know about until the day. These ruined the relaxing atmosphere and the changing rooms are tiny so I had to wait for ages for the one private changing room as a lady was getting her child changed in there. In the end I gave up waiting and put my clothes over my wet swimwear. The food in the restaurant was nice and worth the money as we had a dinner package, however I feel that £11 for a dessert is over priced. Bar drinks were very expensive so we only had one and went back to the room. Breakfast in the morning was our highlight as they kindly gave us a room service tray so I could take it back to our room.
We held our Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 28th of February which was everything you would expect from Cambridge Belfry Rooms, Food and staff Staff were all brilliant The main reason for this review is Events Executive Amanda Martin she was so helpful and with us every step of the way She is a mayor asset to this Business
Stayed here 2/3/26,
Hotel, food were excellent,
Spa very disappointed full of school children and parents, did not like sharing changing room with parents / and noisy children.place looked a bit run down. And cold.
Not an ideal experience to come and relax for the afternoon.
Would not return for that reason
Customer service was terrible no attention to detail from staff felt more of an inconvenience to them.
The room was ok facilities wise but not the cleanest which after having to wait until 4pm to check in was disappointing dusty surfaces and hair and grime in the bath. Generally the room seemed very dated and tired cracked tiles in bathroom scratches and marks on walls and furniture.
The restaurant considering the good reviews the food was terrible poor quality steak overcooked chips tasted frozen dry and greasy side salad made with no care or effort at all. Partners meal also no flavour a mixture of overcooked and undercooked vegetables.
Cocktails not freshly made but just ready made cocktails brought in poor quality and considering the prices charged extremely overpriced.
Disappointing to say the least
Overall the hotel was nice, room was nice. The facilities were good - nice pool, jacuzzi, steam room/sauna and gym.
The only thing that let it down for us was the food.
I ordered a crayfish and crab with sides. I got a tiny fishcake. This was not stated on the menu. Basically, my starter was bigger than my main (no joke). They forgot my chips as well.
For the cost of the meals I found this really poor, and its the reason this does not get 5 stars.
I had a Delux room wich is a generous size. The beds are comfy, the duvets and pillows are first class. Plenty of tea and coffee for a beverage in the room. The bathroom has a seperate shower and bath.
My only reason for a lower rating is that the buffet breakfast, although plenty of choice, is that the hot food is tepid.
