We stayed for my partners birthday and upgraded to a king suite. The room was spacious and clean and we liked the free minibar, however the table in the sitting area was very shabby and looked out of place and the bed was so squeaky that I was scared to move in fear of waking my partner up. If id have paid the £250 they ask for that room I would have been very disappointed. The spa was ok however let down by children's swimming lessons being held there which we didnt know about until the day. These ruined the relaxing atmosphere and the changing rooms are tiny so I had to wait for ages for the one private changing room as a lady was getting her child changed in there. In the end I gave up waiting and put my clothes over my wet swimwear. The food in the restaurant was nice and worth the money as we had a dinner package, however I feel that £11 for a dessert is over priced. Bar drinks were very expensive so we only had one and went back to the room. Breakfast in the morning was our highlight as they kindly gave us a room service tray so I could take it back to our room.
We held our Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 28th of February which was everything you would expect from Cambridge Belfry Rooms, Food and staff Staff were all brilliant The main reason for this review is Events Executive Amanda Martin she was so helpful and with us every step of the way She is a mayor asset to this Business
Stayed here 2/3/26,
Hotel, food were excellent,
Spa very disappointed full of school children and parents, did not like sharing changing room with parents / and noisy children.place looked a bit run down. And cold.
Not an ideal experience to come and relax for the afternoon.
Would not return for that reason
Customer service was terrible no attention to detail from staff felt more of an inconvenience to them.
The room was ok facilities wise but not the cleanest which after having to wait until 4pm to check in was disappointing dusty surfaces and hair and grime in the bath. Generally the room seemed very dated and tired cracked tiles in bathroom scratches and marks on walls and furniture.
The restaurant considering the good reviews the food was terrible poor quality steak overcooked chips tasted frozen dry and greasy side salad made with no care or effort at all. Partners meal also no flavour a mixture of overcooked and undercooked vegetables.
Cocktails not freshly made but just ready made cocktails brought in poor quality and considering the prices charged extremely overpriced.
Disappointing to say the least
Overall the hotel was nice, room was nice. The facilities were good - nice pool, jacuzzi, steam room/sauna and gym.
The only thing that let it down for us was the food.
I ordered a crayfish and crab with sides. I got a tiny fishcake. This was not stated on the menu. Basically, my starter was bigger than my main (no joke). They forgot my chips as well.
For the cost of the meals I found this really poor, and its the reason this does not get 5 stars.
I had a Delux room wich is a generous size. The beds are comfy, the duvets and pillows are first class. Plenty of tea and coffee for a beverage in the room. The bathroom has a seperate shower and bath.
My only reason for a lower rating is that the buffet breakfast, although plenty of choice, is that the hot food is tepid.
Very nice stay Imogen was our waitress for dinner. Imogen was so pleasant friendly and nothing too much trouble .
Easy location, perfect with supermarket next door. Rooms was clean with tea facilities. Missing glasses for drinking water. Spa and treatment was lovely, although did get busy. Food was good for evening meal, breakfast was missing mugs and cutlery as busy morning, staff were bringing out one at a time as required which seemed unhelpful.
Overall very nice, would go back.
We stayed for a couple of nights midweek The location and parking are great. The hotel is nice, staff friendly, room clean and warm. The pool and jacuzzi are just too busy although it was still school holidays with lots of people using the facilities at the same time, hotel guests and just day visitors all crammed in, spoilt the spa experience. We enjoyed drinks in the bar and our breakfast was very good.
I would like to give a glowing review here but sadly I cannot. Firstly, if you don't like the cold you aren't going to like this place, the entire hotel was freezing including our bedroom. I was disappointed in the bed as the photo shows a queen size bed, I could be wrong but I couldn't find anything in the room details that actually says the size of the bed so to not get one that matched the picture wasn't a great start. We ordered drinks at the bar and a bar snack, they were not busy at all in terms of who was in the bar - however we still needed to go and find out what happened to the bar snack.
The staff here need more training, being asked as a customer the difference between pepsi and pepsi max and the diet pepsi along with having to ask for drinks to be served in appropriate glasses, like whisky - it should come in a whisky glass not a highball... dont get me wrong the staff aren't rude or anything just not sufficiently trained.
The main meal, disappointing, my food was barley warm, good flavours but not what they should have been, they had clearly been prepared much much much earlier - possibly even the day before given the way the bread was, it spoilt it to be honest. Main course was ok, not amazing but certainly not terrible.
Get into bed to find (and this really did annoy me) the quilt cover was superking but the quilt was probably a double not happy.
Overall give I got this as a deal I was ok about what I paid, but they need to improve, if i'd paid full price I would have been complaining in person before i left.
Superb long weekend!
Made full use of the gym and spa facilities which are excellent.
Our room was lovely, I'm so glad we paid the extra for an upgraded room.
The restaurant and bar were also great with good selection.
We will definitely be back.
The room looks very nice and is clean and well maintained. Everything about it feels perfect and comfortable. The only disappointing thing is the noise. There is no proper soundproofing, so you can clearly hear noise from the hallway, and people in the hallway can hear sounds from inside the room as well. Aside from the noise issue, the room itself is excellent.
The staff were professional and friendly throughout our stay, which we really appreciated. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and overall the hotel itself was well maintained. They also made a nice birthday plate for my girlfriend, which was a thoughtful touch.
That said, the spa was quite small and not really the relaxing experience we were hoping for. There were lots of children and families using the pool, so it didn’t feel calm. The steam room was also poor and not very effective.
Unfortunately, there was a large event on during our stay with a DJ playing until around midnight, which woke us up. The noise started again early the next morning with people being loud in the courtyard. If we’d known this was happening, we would have chosen somewhere else for my girlfriend’s birthday, as we were hoping for a peaceful break.
Overall, the stay was just okay. Clean rooms, good massage, good beds, and polite staff were positives — but if you’re looking for a quiet spa getaway, I’d recommend checking whether there are events on before booking.
Tip: If you’re planning a special occasion or want a relaxing spa experience, it’s worth confirming how busy the spa is and whether any functions are scheduled during your stay.
This is the second year, we have stayed at the Belfry for our annual dinner/dance. Overall, it's a great venue, rooms are excellent, plenty of parking & being a first time EV user, plenty of charging points. I was fortunate to get a black Friday deal with the room, so price was great which included breakfast, which we really enjoyed. The meal for the function was lovely & hot, sometimes this can let venues down, but not this one.
However, there were a couple of points that slightly let down the visit:
1. During the evening we found a lack of bar staff at times, which caused a back up of guests waiting to be served, instead of enjoying the evening. When it came to 11pm, the only bar staff on duty decided to close the bar as she claimed, she cannot serve anymore! We found this strange, as residences, we thought we could get bar service throughout the night. Our organiser spoke with the bar staff who said they would do one more drink, that's it. The organiser asked to see the manager, which the reply was there isn't one. The issue was resolved with bar staff keeping the bar open, but after this, the attitude of said bar staff wasn't appreciated. Short with guests, spilling drinks (shorts) on the bar & when told this, gave filthy looks, commenting that it wasn't much! We pay good money, so expect the correct amount of drink.
2. When I came to check out, I had booked three rooms, for my guests too on a Black Friday deal. I paid back in November. The reception told me that they were going to take another payment from me for the rooms too. I explained that I had paid in advance, but the receptionist said it was only pending. After discussing this for a period of time, it was decided that I had to email reservations etc to claim my other money back, which I found disappointing as I showed evidence of payment, but still not accepted it. In the defense of the receptionist, they couldn't understand it either. I'm still waiting on an email three days later to confirm that this is settled.
Apart from these points, we do enjoy staying at the Belfry, which will continue on a yearly basis.
Excellent hotel. Good location. Friendly and welcoming reception staff. Clean, large room with a comfortable bed. Ample car parking. Excellent breakfast. Thank you to the manager, Nick Hughes, for his assistance. We will definitely return.
The hotel is set in large grounds with ample parking space. Very helpful and attentive staff. A spotless and well appointed room. Not enough space to hang long dresses and could do with some hooks to hang things on.
To be fair, they did their best.
First of all the £50 per room per night as a security deposit is ridiculous. This is potentially a tactic to upsell the rest of their services. Obviously they can use their insurance if something break in the room but for me it's just unacceptable. Due to this check in and check out was quite lengthy and we had to wait the rest of the guests to understand why they are being charged more money. Note, this isn't a cheap spa hotel.
Secondly, the spa treatment per se isn't bad but the booking system is quite confusing. On top of that, they didn't have a specialist for their facial treatment equipment and we had to wake up at 9am on a Sunday for nothing. If you don't have a specialist is fine, but please let us know beforehand ... is that simple.
Thirdly for dinner, they took a lot of time to take the order. Maybe they were busier than usual. However, it wasn't ideal.
We don't think that we'll return. Hopefully, they'll iron out those oddities.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Belfry. Third time we have stayed. Took our daughter for her birthday and booked a hotel room with her that accommodate which it did. Enjoyed a light evening meal on our first night and the spa and swimming pool was lovely.
Location was quiet and easy to find, we had an upgrade which we very much appreciated as we use the breakaway club and are frequent QHotel visitors.
The spa was very clean and the pool a good size, the only negative the changing rooms were very small and outdated with only 1 private changing room, the whole of the area was very wet floors, walls and bench were soaking.
the restaurant was very enjoyable and the staff very welcoming and pleasant.
Nathan did a fantastic job of keeping everyone well looked after despite it being very busy and he was working the bar on his own. He took time to ask how I was and was very attentive to all the customers he was serving. He took it all in his stride, with a smile and without a hint of stress. He’s a natural with outstanding people skills. He’s a great asset to your team. And he made me a cracking cappuccino!
