Just had the most fantastic evening at the Slaughters Manor House. We stayed over the road at the Country inn but were advised to try cocktails in the bar at the Manor House. The cocktails were first class and a huge thank you to the staff who kept the atmosphere going with a special mention to Connor, amazing at his job and had us all in fits of laughter! Such a great evening and a beautiful place. Will be back!
I thought the hotel itself was lovely, it’s in a quaint village, one I’ve passed through many times before, and I’d always loved this manor house, so I was genuinely very excited to finally stay here. However, the service and the room were unfortunately not up to standard.
We arrived on a Saturday around 14:00. Although check-in wasn’t until 15:00, we were able to check in early and were shown to our room promptly. At first glance, everything was beautiful, until it wasn’t.
When using the bathroom for the first time upon entering the room, it was clear that it had not been properly cleaned. There was residue and tissue left in the toilet, no toilet roll, and used hygiene products still left in the bin, which was very unpleasant. As we headed out to Bourton for a late lunch and I informed the receptionist about the issue and asked if the bathroom could be cleaned and the towels and robes replaced, as we no longer felt confident they were fresh. When we returned, nothing had been done. I ended up having to sort some of it out myself and went back to reception to request toilet roll.
Later, when getting ready for dinner, I tried to close the curtains for privacy, only to find that they wouldn’t shut properly. After a lovely dinner, we asked if someone could help us with the curtains, as we did not want to break anything and as the lights outside the manor were shining directly into the room. Someone came up, but instead of using the mechanism, they simply yanked them closed. This didn’t solve the problem, and a beam of light still shone across the bed throughout the entire night. This however did distract us from the very bright green light from the Fire Exit Door in our room also.
We were then woken early by the sunrise and struggled to fall back asleep. Before breakfast we decided to have a coffee to wake us up, we went to use the Nespresso machine in the room just to find that there were decaf pods only, this made it feel quite pointless. On a positive note, breakfast was absolutely lovely.
Upon check-out, I reminded the staff of these issues, but my concerns were swept under the carpet with little acknowledgment.
Overall, I left feeling disappointed. For an anniversary weekend away, this stay was short of our expectations.
We were looking forward to a Champagne Afternoon Tea for my wife and I. A Fathers Day present from my daughter and Son in law.
I’ll be fair, but overall you could do much better.
The sandwiches were very average, M&S sandwiches are so much better.
The scones were delicious but two silly little pots of clotted cream and jam were not even enough to two scones so we had to ask for more.
You charge a premium price so this fell short of a premium service.
Gemma and MiG and Louise and Louis and Jamie made my trip a most memorable one
MiG made sure I had a beautiful room with a stunning view
The restaurant servers were so friendly and professional.
Thank you and I will come back
This is a lovely manor house in the charming village of Lower Slaughters. I rated it a 3 because the staff is inattentive and very unhelpful. We are out in the country and they could not be bothered to direct us to the equestrian center where we prepaid riding at the hotel’s recommendation. This facility was 5 minutes away and because our google maps” didn’t work, we missed our paid reservation. When I asked the front desk for suggestions for sight- seeing she replied “ there isn’t anything- this is it”. We are traveling with our well- behaved 10 year old grandson and so are staying in a suite. We have been provided two sets of towels and since our room phone did not work my husband went out into the rain to the front desk to get more towels… All this for over $780 a night. Because of cancellation fees we are stuck here for 3 nights. I do not recommend this establishment.
Have just returned from a delicious afternoon tea in front of a roaring log fire. The food and service was excellent and we were given a choice of places to sit, either at a table or in comfy chairs/sofa. Would definitely recommend it to others.
Quite a disappointing stay at this hotel - not as good as I was expecting. I intially phoned on Sunday night to book but I was told that they were fully booked even though there were 2 deluxe rooms showing on the website. The receptionist told me to book online which I did and there was space. I paid £330 per night but I think that was very expensive as i have cheaper . When we arrived I was told the money had not gone from our account so I would have to deposit money for our stay or pay upfront. Did they think we were going to leave without paying. The rather curt receptionist wanted to put £100 for drinks for the first night! We just decided to pay upfront. I have never experienced this before. We were then taken to our room which was disappointing as the wallpaper was black and the furniture made of mirror and shiny metal with 2 large stainless steel urns stuck next to the dressing table. I suppose we just expected something more traditional, but it was a good size and overlooked the front of the house with a good bathroom
The breakfast was excellent - good choice and good quality food with attentive staff.
As it was a special anniversary we ate in the restaurant and the food was well cooked . We were charged £14 for a 175ml of white wine which I think is about £18 to buy on the open market it then had 10% service charge on top (as did dinner) which made it £15.40. Needless to say we did not eat there again. The inn over the road is under the same ownership.
When it was for a special occasion it was disappointing for the price we paid so therfore would not wish to return unfortunately.
The bedroom decor was exceptional and the bathroom spacious.
We sat at the breakfast table for 40 minutes before we had anything to eat the 2 hot dishes arrived at once. Service seemed haphazard. Reception kindly reduced the bill when we checked out.
This property is beautiful from the outside however the rooms are tired.
For the cost, the service is well below standard. All of the individual staff are lovely and trying very hard but it feels like there just aren't enough of them.
Our room was very damp and smelt musty on arrival. When we mentioned this to the front desk we were recommended to open some windows. Items that were asked to be laundered were later found balled up in a corner of our room and items leftover from room service forgotten to be cleared away by housekeeping.
Breakfast our first morning took nearly an hour due to understaffing and we watched staff scraping leftovers from other tables while we ate.
If you are a 'light sensitive' sleeper, do not book! There is a bright green emergency exit light (apparently in every room) that will stop you from sleeping. Nothing to be done about this apparently.
Good location quality. Service was lacking in breakfast room. Not great value for the price - at this price level you would expect better staff service (staff lacking at breakfast, reception staff are not very welcoming) and you would expect more than one small bottle of water in the room, better range of teas in the room. We had requested earlier check in but there was no flexibility on check in and out times.
Breakfast were quite nice. But a little salty to me.
We stayed at The Manor House for two nights in early July, it was beyond idyllic.
Firstly, Lower Slaughter is just beautiful and as my title states, it is exactly what you might picture when you imagine a tiny Cotswold village, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place.
The Manor House itself is immaculately kept, from the grounds, to the public areas, to the bedrooms. Everywhere is spotless. Our room was a Junior Suite thanks to a very generous upgrade on arrival, it was very spacious with a huge, canopied bed which was very comfortable.
Breakfast on both mornings was very good, table service as opposed to buffet which we would always prefer. The service was impeccable both mornings.
One evening we ate at the sister property, the Country Pub across the road, the food was lovely. The second evening we ate at the Manor House dining room - that meal was phenomenal.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay and look forward to returning.
Room wasnt as clean as expected very over priced not good value for money
I visited last week for afternoon tea with friends. The hotel looks beautiful and we were anticipating a real treat however the room was uncomfortable and completely lacking atmosphere, the service was poor and the quality of the afternoon tea extremely disappointing.
The area and house itself is beautiful. We stayed in one of the suites called Antonite
I wish I had read the reviews on the Manor House Lower Slaughter before I went for afternoon tea with five friends.
We sat on low sofas , lovely for relaxing but for afternoon tea we were constantly having to lean forward to reach for the food making it a very uncomfortable exercise. A table and chairs would have been much more suitable, more comfortable and easier and consequently more relaxing .
The bread on the sandwiches was far too thick, there was a chunk of sausage roll/slice, a minimal amount of cream for the scones, not sure what the cakes were and we had to ask for extra tea. When I got home I found I had been overcharged, that was certainly adding insult to injury. I contacted the hotel , no reply on first attempt and when I did get through they did acknowledge that I had been overcharged but absolutely no apology although they said they would reimburse me just for the extra they had overcharged me.
There is no disabled toilet for none staying guests which is a disgrace.
All in all an extremely disappointing visit .
DO THE OWNERS REALLY KNOW HOW THEIR HOTEL IS BEING RUN?
Overpriced for what it is...
No air conditioning
No wi-fi in our room and it only works in one ground floor room. Oddly they were aware of this and yet still do nothing about it(?)
My partner was drinking Laurent Perrier Champagne at £28 a glass, yet after our stay we moved on to the Lygon in Broadway and it was £16 a glass, and the Lygon is a very up market similarly priced hotel
Service charges:
We paid for bed and breakfast up front (we didn't have a choice whether we wanted breakfast or not). £5 service charges were added each day for breakfast... Even tho we didn't have it...!!! And I have a glass of lager pushed across the bar and there's 30p service charge... My girlfriend has a Laurent Perrier at the same time and that's a £2.80 service charge!!!
We won't be back
The hotel is a quintessential representation of an English countryside manor. Grounds are gorgeous, we loved our huge room and the pretty, old school bathroom, and the breakfast was high quality and delicious.
Great stay at the manor. Great food and service. Recommended.
My favorite place to stay in all of Cotswolds! Very cool interior decor. Grand piano, Dyson hair dryer and room fan! Nespresso! Perfect!
