Room was good, clean, comfortable. Could not get to a cable channel on the tv. Had significant trouble finding it in the dark-got there and found out the pool was already closed. Breakfast started too
Late for us to have that.

Working.
It was too warm
And muggy in the room the staff lady brought fans which was nice I
But 1 fan
Stopped working after a while ,
Got to the hotel at 5:00 pm.Hotel was closed nobody was there.Didnt answer the phone.Had to sleep in my car.I want my money back.I will not stay in a Howard Johnson again, after driving 14 hours nothing and the other guys were disappointed beyond belief. To say this sucked was a under statement No notice no emails no nothing
This hotel was a huge disappointment , service was terrible , very unorganized . They left the lounge uncleaned after it was used we sat in it in filth; looked like the after math of a social.. they closed the bar/ restaurant and pool all by 9pm.. staff was seen drinking wine on the job. The fitness centre wasn’t available .. could never find anyone when needed anything whether it be check in or check out, to get a drink at the bar or order from the restaurant, it’s like nobody works here. The hot tub was cold, the water smelt like urine.
Sleep in your car . Not worth the stay.
My teenagers room is kept better then this hotel.
The property seemed very unkept. The rooms were clean enough. Heat was not working.
If you are traveling through hwy1 is a perfect stop. The hotel is quiet, has a nice restaurant open until 10pm. Also a breakfasts is included.
Love the restaurant
Our stay at the Howard Johnson in Portage la Prairie was extremely disappointing. Upon entering the building, we were immediately hit with a strong, unpleasant odor that smelled like mold. There was no one at the front desk to check us in, and we had to go searching to find someone to assist us. When we finally got checked in, locating our room was a struggle. There was no clear signage or elevator to access the second floor, and when we asked for help, the staff member seemed just as confused as we were.
The room itself was appalling, like something out of a horror movie. It was clear someone had attempted to repaint, but paint was sloppily smeared on fixtures and missing in places around the doors. The bathroom was in terrible condition with visible stains on the tub, shower wall, and toilet. To top it off, there were dead bugs on the window sill, which is completely unacceptable.
The final straw was the pool. Both of my children ended up with rashes after using it, which raises serious concerns about its cleanliness and maintenance. (Pool staff came the last day we were there and said they should have been there days ago but it was busy so they put it off)
Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. The property is poorly maintained, and the staff seemed ill-equipped to provide basic service. I would not recommend staying here to anyone.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Stains all over curtains and couches. Toilets were broken, breakfast was horrible ( beans and hot dogs). For the money we paid it was horrible.
The bed was broken, no one responded to my message about it. If you put your weight near the top it literally flipped up.
The walls had a lot of damage in the room.
Overall it was an ok hotel for the price we paid, nothing fancy, but have definately seen worse.
Great location. The on-site restaurant was amazing. Delicious food, very generous portions, unbeatable prices and amazing service. Hard-working and kind staff. Also, breakfast was tasty. Fresh, hot and plentiful of food.
I wouldn’t stay here again even if it was free.
When we got in they were doing pool maintenance which is fair, it happens…
So the kids were disappointed right off the bat.
When we checked into our room we realized after about an hour that our toilet was broken. The seat wasn’t attached and it wouldn’t flush. I went to front desk to tell them and they told me it would be another 1.5 hours for a room. This of course was annoying to us. The so called manager was SO rude to me to the point where I had to go get my husband to talk to him. He was of course wayyy more respectful to him. We went out for dinner and when we came home we got checked into another room. After swimming I came to the room to wash my face and realized our sink didn’t drain… the night hotel staff were wayyy nicer then the so called manager and they sent someone to come fix it. They didn’t fix it till about 10pm so we were able to finally go to bed. Morning breakfast was okay I guess… there was toast and cereal and it’s free so I guess I can’t complain. Next time I will spend the extra 50$ and go to Holiday Inn… I suggest everyone does the same.
♥️♥️
The outside doors
The staff, the room and especially that there's no hot water in the evening or in the morning to shower with
Was an unplanned stay as our usual hotels were booked but turned out to be a great experience, and we have now switched our designated destinations. Spot service was amazing and the food at the restaurant was top quality with affordable pricing.
Staff were amazing. Food was even better. I will stay here for all my work stays. Breakfast was free, 2 eggs hashbrown and toast and much more. Cerial muffins coffee etc. Loved it. Again staff were so friendly kind and accommodating.
The room itself was not bad. The neighbors seemed like they were locals staying there and were screaming and fighting.
The staff could barely communicate in English. As in it took several tries to figure out what my reservation was!
No heat in my room, it was only 58 degrees in there!! No point in asking the staff.... they don't speak english!!!
