Won’t be staying here again.

The rooms were very spacious and we loved having a fireplace.

Breakfast was disappointing.. it’s supposed to be until 10 am. The first morning we got there at 9:15 am and they were mostly out of everything. When I asked the lady working there she said she had no more and was unable to refill food. The next morning we decided to get up early and we were there at 8:30 am and once again most of the food was out and I asked once again and she said they were out of stuff. What they had was cold and I saw people reheating food in microwave.. if you are going to have breakfast have enough until the time ending.. or don’t do that all. About 15 people came in behind us and were disappointed as well there was hardly any food left. It was only 8:30!
The elevator was out of service, and last time we stayed here last year it was out too! Our shower didn’t drain so we had to quickly shower before it over filled.
Checking in.. one worker and about 15 people in line at 4 pm checking in.
Rooms are spacious but need a source up. Rooms are looking dated.
We won’t be staying here again what we paid we could have stayed somewhere nicer and more accommodating.

Well located, decent price for the area, and nice rooms in nice grounds with parking available
Pros:

When looking for a centrally located affordable option in Monterey, this place seemed the best option. It was easy to find and pull off the main street into the underground parking, and we were able to get a space easily when checking in (parking on site was one of our 'must haves'). The hotel is quite large, but spread around the grounds a bit, so there are a few options when deciding where you want to be (street-facing or tucked back a bit). The check-in was easy, with a polite young girl on the desk, and we found our room easily. It's got that beautiful Spanish hacienda vibe, and the grounds were well kept with a fountain courtyard right outside our room.

Our room was large (a Premier Junior Suite) with a comfy living area, a little dining area, 2 lovely comfy beds and a little balcony overlooking one of the courtyards on site. It was clean and there was a fireplace that we didn't need to use, and the only thing that confused me at first was the lack of any AC. I know the central coastal/NorCal areas don't always need AC at some times in the year, but it was quite warm when we stayed (late September) and this felt like a bit lacking in a nice hotel like this. I called the desk and to their credit they arranged for a large fan to be brought up, which arrived quickly and did the job.

Location wise, it's perfect for walking to Fisherman's Wharf, and also to the surrounding downtown area, including Alvarado St where we found a good selection of places to eat and drink. Although if you have any major mobility issues, bear in mind it's a bit of a hill to get back up to Pacific St from Alvarado. All in all, I'd definitely stay here again when in Monterey, as was a pleasant experience.
