roberto at the reception put on a master class in hospitality. rooms were comfortable and had more than i needed for solo stay.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with big smiles and made to feel very welcome. We were walked a short distance to a separate building—literally just a one-minute walk from the Trevi Steps. Our bags were taken and we were put into a tiny, old-style Italian lift, the kind that adds real character. By the time we reached the fifth floor, the man was already there waiting for us (he ran up!).
The room itself was simple but very clean and had everything we needed. The real highlight was opening the outside door to a balcony that overlooked nearby buildings, with the Trevi Fountain visible in the distance—such a lovely surprise.
Housekeeping did an excellent job throughout our stay, so a big thank you to the cleaning lady. Overall, we had a really lovely stay and would happily recommend it.
Amazing service, in a perfect location right by the Trevi fountain. so easy to get to so many of the site around rome. The staff at the hotel are lovely, very attentive and helpful. They helped us arrange transport to pompeii which was incredible.
The room we were in was a great size with a lovely view.
I would 100% stay here again, thank you to everyone at Trevi Hotel for helpimg make mine and my dads week stay in rome so incredible
My daughter and I arrived early after 24 hour flights and had requested early check-in beforehand. Of course this was not available, and I can understand that.
But as we waited in the lounge area, already completed all the paperwork, I witnessed at least 3 other parties checking in and requesting rooms earlier... these rooms were then made available to all of them while I was told not yet.
When I enquired about these at the reception, I received the most rude response, totally condescending and arrogant, explaining to me how the business works. When I asked the lady to listen to my point, she just refused and continued to shout at me. I left it and a bit later the assistant came to give me my room key with the worst attitude ever.. he was angry with me for some reason as well. Then we had to wait for him to eventually bring our bags as well.
The rooms are a total disappointment, definitely not 4 star! I was too scared to walk bare feet in the room. The taps were all stained and the bathroom was far from 4 star as well.
Sadly we had to return there after our cruise and our room was upgraded to an outside room.... while it was beautiful, the noise was unacceptable till way after 2am. When I called the reception to ask about the bar across the road I was again shouted at, telling me there was a client and he couldn't go see what the noise was about. During the day the street is quiet and unsuspecting, but at night the tables and chairs come out right across the door from this external room, so there is no way anybody can sleep. And we had flights back home the next morning.
In general, the service is totally unacceptable and the rooms inside the hotel are definitely not 4 star as advertised. Maybe the rooms outside in the street are much better, but I would advise people not to stay at this hotel.
Myself and my daughter stayed 3 nights in the Trevi hotel and had a great experience! The hotel staff were so friendly, professional and helpful from the day we arrived to our check out!
Our room was very clean and comfortable! We had an outside room in one of their properties and it was perfect 👌.
The Location is second to none , minutes away from the Trevi Fountain and walking distance to every thing !
Thankyou ! We will definitely come back !
WARNING: SCAMMERS — Hotel Trevi, Rome
We booked directly through the official hotel website a
Superior Room with View, which is significantly more expensive than standard rooms.
The view was the main reason for our choice — this trip was planned well in advance, and we intentionally paid more for comfort and atmosphere.
At check-in, we were immediately asked to pay in full for the room with view.
Only after payment did the unpleasant surprise begin.
👉 Instead of the booked Superior Room with View, we were given a standard room:
facing a wall and air-conditioning motors,
located under a staircase, with constant foot traffic and noise,
the window cannot be opened — otherwise the room fills with a strong smell of fried oil from a nearby restaurant.
This room clearly does not match the category we booked and paid for.
Staff behavior — completely unacceptable
I went to the reception immediately.
Instead of apologizing or acknowledging the mistake, the receptionist:
denied the issue,
tried to convince me that I had booked a standard room.
After long explanations and showing the booking confirmation, he:
offered breakfast instead of a room change (which we did not need),
said our room category was “occupied” and asked us to come back the next day,
refused to discuss any refund for the price difference.
The following day — same manipulation
Another staff member:
again treated us as if we were naive tourists,
again offered breakfast as compensation,
refused to change the room,
avoided any discussion of financial compensation,
and once again told us to “come back tomorrow”.
This is not a mistake.
This is a deliberate and repeated practice.
Additional observations
Rooms look “renovated” at first glance, but:
very poor cleaning,
heavy dust everywhere.
The TV did not work (credit to the concierge for coming quickly), but behind the TV there was a thick, old layer of dust, clearly not cleaned for years.
Trash has been left on the common staircase for 3 days, untouched.
❗ Final conclusion
If you:
book a higher room category,
pay extra for a view,
➡️ be prepared that you may be intentionally downgraded,
and then:
gaslighted by staff,
delayed with empty promises,
offered breakfast instead of real solutions,
and never refunded the difference.
Hotel Trevi does not operate honestly.
I strongly advise avoiding this hotel.
Visited Rome with my daughter for the weekend in December 2025. Couldn't fault this hotel at all. Check in was smooth, lovely man who was really helpful, chatty and recommended some places to eat and walk. Short walk to the room, was upgraded for free to a suite - the most amazing experience. Discount in the resturant next door to where the rooms are located - the best pizza!
Breakfast was great - fab start to the day before exploring
Staff - really friendly and helpful
Location - absolutely perfect - a stone's throw from Trevi Fountain
Safety - didn't feel unsafe at all in the room or getting to the room
Would I stay here again? Already booked for May :)
Thanks so much for the most wonderful trip, I don't think I would try any other hotel!
Great location and well fitted rooms, very comfortable and good amenities too! The value was unmatched though, great deal we got with hotel Trevi!
If you want to be in the very center of Rome, that's the place. The room was not big but sufficient for your 3 days staying tidy and done every day. Olga the recepcionist served us a couple of times in a very professional, friendly and helpful. Very well comunicated with all atractions and highlight places to visit: Nabona place, Panteon, Metro stations and of course Fontana de Trevi within 3 minuts walking distance. Very worth while roof top breakast. We definetely come back there next time.
We had a great time, perfect location!
At check in we arrived a little early but luckily our room was ready. There was a man named Sall at reception who was very helpful. We told him it was our honeymoon and he took out a map and circled all the key areas we should visit. He also explained that Rome was safe however to look for pickpockets. He was very helpful. He explained our room was in the annex and the lift was small and that's OK. The building is older so this is expected.
I wasn't sure what to expect in the annex but our room was very big and warm. The shower was nice and the place was spotless! It was also very quiet. Considering that the hotel is so close to the fountain and central I thought it was very quiet.
Again the location is amazing, we were so close to absolutely everything and walked most days. It was also very safe.
At checkout we were met with a lovely blonde lady with red lipstick (sorry I didn't catch her name) who we chatted too for a while and stored our bags for her. I found all the staff to be very nice and helpful all the time. The house keeping were also very friendly and did an amazing job each day.
I was worried about going based on some of the reviews but it was a great stay and I would recommend to others
What an absolute nightmare at this hotel. I was taken to a room in another building. Room 111, it was disgusting. The floor was dirty and ad it was ground floor when the window was open theres was crowds of people outside waiting to enter the water place/museum. People looking the window left me no privacy. Then the smell of sewers started after approximately 1 hour, it was vile, made me want to vomit. I complained at reception and was told they would sort it out.
Next day we went out but on our return the smell was stronger, i had to leave the bathroom door closed but the smell was again making me want to vomit. I went to reception and spoke to a old balding man, he was disgraceful and disrespectful he spoke to me like i was garbage. I was fuming and reminded him i was a paying customer, he lacked any form of respect, care or interest, he kept repeating’madam you should have told me earlier’ bla bla. We raised voices, it was terrible. Eventually reluctantly he gave me a room in the main hotel. The other staff were quite pleasant, cleaning staff were lovely. Carpet in the room was filthy i will be posting photos on trip advisor, and the door to my room fell off the hinge, there was crawlies on the floor.
I would not advise or recommend this hotel ever. The old balding receptionist guy could benefit from some lessons in customer care, not a nice person. The hotel is run down and a low rate. Only positive aspect is that it is close to the Trevi Fountain.
We stayed in the separate annex building of Hotel Trevi in rooms 110 and 112, and the entire experience was awful from the moment we arrived.
🛏 Room 110 – Filthy, Ants Everywhere & No Real Window
Room 110 was not clean at all. There were ants all over the place, the floor felt dirty, and the general condition of the room was extremely poor.
The “window” is a joke — it faces a wall and the bin store, so you get no light, no view, and the room feels dark, cramped and depressing.
The air conditioning didn’t work, and even though we complained twice — and the cleaner told the manager twice herself — nobody bothered to come and fix it.
On top of that, there was a damp, musty smell in the corridor, and noise from outside and the hallway made it impossible to rest properly.
🚽 Room 111 – Horrible Toilet Smell & Bad Maintenance
Room 111 was just as bad. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with a strong toilet/sewage smell that never goes away.
The bathroom felt worn out, the air was heavy and stale, and the whole room had a horrible, unclean feeling.
A family member staying in that room asked to be moved because the smell was unbearable, but was spoken to horribly by the older man at reception. She was finally moved into the man building. This room also overlooks a pub so you get no sleep.
Both rooms have no soundproofing so you literally hear everything other guests ge up to - I mean literally everything. Even the quietest of conversations always request the main building rather than this hell hole
👎 Reception – The Rudest Man We’ve Ever Dealt With
The older receptionist was genuinely the rudest (check in Sunday) and most unprofessional hotel staff member we have ever encountered.
He dismissed every issue, rolled his eyes, argued back, and made it very clear he didn’t care about helping anyone. Spoke to his colleague in Italian and the laughed and we couldn’t understand a word he said.
He refused to move us, refused to fix issues, and acted like we were a problem for simply asking for basic things like cleanliness and working air-con.
🧹 The Cleaner Was the Only Good Person
The cleaner was lovely, kind, and actually tried to help.
She told the manager about our issues more than once, but clearly management just ignores everything.
It’s not the cleaner’s fault — the hotel is simply run terribly.
🔓 Annex Building – Unsafe & Neglected
The building we were put in is not connected to the main hotel.
There’s no proper security, no staff presence, and it feels completely abandoned.
The corridors were noisy, the upstairs apartments were super noisy as though they were coming through the roof and the walls were so thin we could hear everything.
The whole annex feels like a forgotten, budget overflow block with zero maintenance.
❌ Overall Summary
Between the ants, the dirt, the sewage smells, the broken air-conditioning, the unsafe separate building, and the unbelievably rude receptionist, this hotel was a complete disaster.
It ruined what should have been a great trip.
There are far better places to stay in Rome.
We would never stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Great location. Staff helpful. But the rooms need some TLC. Clean but need some money spending on them. Rooftop terrace not available all the time only for people who have breakfast. Phone in room did not work so had to ring from mobile main number. Wouldn’t say it was 24 hour concierge service.
Wouldn’t recommend for people with walking difficulties as some rooms are not at main sight. We had to walk around 100metres down a cobbled street with luggage. Although door men/women were very helpful and friendly.
Our travel agent booked this hotel based on past recommendations. Well, it was not great.
Very grumpy older man at the check-in desk...not very talkative, threw orders at the younger male guys working lugging bags around.
We apprehensively left our bags at the hotel to go for a walk around as we couldn't get into our room till 3 pm.
When we came back to get our bags one poor guy had to drag 2 to 3 suitcases out to get our bags out of a tiny storage room.
We were then taken 50 to 60 metres down n around a cobbled street to a massive door into what was like a grotto style hall...with a lift that could barley fit 2 people in let alone you're suit case...it took 2 trips to get us n our luggage up to the 5th floor...then around a rabbit warren of tiny corridors n doorways we got to our room. It was a loft room, and the window was in the roof. You couldn't open it, no fresh air...luckily there was a blind you could pull shut with a long stick to block out the daylight.
There was an air-conditioner thank goodness...but it let out a puff of cool air....so it was tolerable. The bathroom was ok clean...newly retiled. Lighting was good. Surprisingly the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Very noisy out in the corridors...other guests coming and going. Also lots of weird bird noises of whatever were nesting on the roof. It was then a nightmare to get yourself and your luggage out of that building to lug them back to the main hotel office to check out.
It served its purpose but, I'd never stay there again and do not recommend it.
Our 3rd year running and the hotel lived up to its high standard. Our room was more like an apartment. Clean and spacious. Minutes from the Trevi it's the ideal location. Friendly staff.
Four nights, mid week. Two lovely reception people... very friendly and professional... not so much the older man on day one. Support staff very polite. Daily cleaning was very good... special touches! Modern shower room, lots of hot water, ample storage, comfy and clean bed. Aircon good. Carpet a little grubby. Sound proof not great.
The hotel staff, all of them were great. Very friendly and helpful.
The location is great. It’s only half block from the fountain of traffic however transportation cannot get to the hotel so you have to walk dragging your suitcases through those coublestones and it’s very difficult, it’s only a short block but it’s very difficult.
Some of hotel rooms are located a block away. We had a roach crawling on the wall. Breakfast was not good at all and the breakfast stuff was not nice. Other than that, the bed was comfortable room was very nice and the bathroon excellent.
Centrally located and within very close proximity to the Trevi fountain.Heaps of restaurants in area.
Very helpful staff.Rooms are functional although bathroom very small(but it is Rome).
Carpets were a little dirty and the beds were very very firm.
Beautiful room with a beautiful view! Staff was superb. Franco made our stay so enjoyable. He was amazing and helped with our hop on/off bus as well as transportation to our port. He provided us was a map of nearby monuments and restaurants. Xoxoxo
I booked hotel Trevi with Agoda. I paid Agoda for 4 nights family room booking. Upon checking in, the hotel informed me that they don't deal with Agoda and as a result I had to pay the hotel almost $1200 Australian dollars AGAIN! After spending two months fighting with Agoda, they instead paid the hotel, now the Hotel is constantly finding excuses not to pay me my refund even though they had been paid twice for THE SAME BOOKING. THANKS GIADA FERRARI!
