Best Western Plus Oceanside Inn

Our stay at Oceanside Inn (Best Western) started very well. Robert at the front desk gave us a warm welcome and kindly waived the early check-in fee. Everything went smoothly until after we checked out.

A few hours later, I realized we had accidentally left three jackets hanging in the closet. I called immediately. Todd was very helpful, checked the room himself (there had been no guests after us), and suggested I call the next morning in case housekeeping had set them aside.

The next day, Beth told me housekeeping hadn’t found anything. I asked her to check again because I was certain the jackets were there, but I never received a follow-up. Later, I spoke with the manager, Carolina, who simply repeated that nothing had been found. I asked if they could review the security cameras, as three jackets don’t just disappear. Instead of showing concern, she laughed and said there was nothing they could do and that it was my responsibility.

Two of the missing jackets were matching Brazil National Team jackets that my husband gave our son as a birthday gift. They were very special to us.

I also filed a report with iLeftMyStuff.com but received no response.

What disappointed me most wasn’t just losing the jackets—it was the complete lack of empathy, accountability, and effort to investigate. Because of how this was handled, I give this experience zero stars and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Guests should be able to trust that lost belongings will be handled honestly and professionally.

For all old hotel, this is very well maintained. Facilities very clean, and the staff were top notch customer service professionals.

Where do I start?
3 days of absolutely no internet connection.
The room was not very clean to start. The corridors are absolutely filthy. The carpets should have been replaced 10 years ago. It is obvious that they have not been cleaned / shampooed in many years. One elevator was broken (and looking at the sign, its probably broken for years). The other elevator works but is the slowest elevator I have ever encountered. Furthermore it is very choppy as it stops so likely long overdue for service. You get this uneasy feeling of getting stuck in the elevator any minute. Hot water was insufficient. The toilet barely flushes , if you don't hold the lever for a very long time it does not flush at all. It costs $200 to replace the entire toilet alas, they keep the malfunctioning toilet in place. The AC unit sounds like a jet plane making it really hard to fall asleep. This also should have been replaced years ago. The towels are of low quality and they smelled bad.
To add insult to injury. I requested a late checkout to noon so that I can attend the conference and take my bag after the conference and they said no (the male employee in the morning wearing earrings is belligerent in his attitude). So I had to miss out on an important presentation so I can return and retrieve my bag.
