Great location and very friendly staff, lots to do at the hotel with water sports, pool, hot tub and my children enjoyed seeing the seals too.
Relatively large sized room and balcony.
Lovely onsite restaurants and lots of free parking available.
Sofa bed was not comfortable.
Housekeeping only came once during our 5 night stay.

Trust your gut. I carefully checked reviews from multiple different websites and feeling confident, booked this hotel and a flight through Expedia several months ago. As the trip drew near, I checked some recent reviews. It seemed that in the past 6 months, the majority of the reviews were poor. However, I told myself that dated rooms and older decor wouldn’t bother me. When we checked in yesterday, I wasn’t blown away by the front desk staff. However, my initial impression of the hotel was that while it was somewhat dated, it certainly would be fine for our family’s 6 night stay. However, this morning while getting ready for the day, I could hear my kids yelling. That’s when we discovered a cockroach in the room.
I calmly went to the front desk. They offered to send a “treatment” to the room, in which we would need to leave for a few hours. The way this was so casually offered made it feel like a weekly occurrence. When I declined, they asked if I wanted a new room and I asked where it would be and they informed me it was adjacent to my current room. We decided to check out.
Expedia was very helpful. I contacted them and they worked out a refund with Bahia. They then booked us a new hotel and covered the overage. We do a “big” family vacation every other year and look forward to it for months…do yourself a favor and save yourself the headache, trust your gut after you read all these recent reviews. I wish I did.
Loved the location and the atmosphere was amazing. Very clean and very well maintained.
How the other side of the property since it’s a public beach it’s difficult to enjoy that side due to vans and campers and the smell was horrible.
Also our room sliding door wouldn’t open anymore so we lost the patio for 3 days of our trip.
Nice room. Both restaurants had good service and great food. Good size pool and large jacuzzi. Bar at poolside with food service available.
Requested view of bay. Didn’t know the balcony was going to overlook a public beach and fairly busy road. Had quite a bit of noise from beach and road early in morning. Would have requested different room had I known. Small bathroom. Ordered bonfire and s’mores. Was supposed to come with waters and attendant. Attendant left as soon as we arrived. Didn’t provide any waters.
This is a wonderful place for families with kids...and anyone who likes seeing kids have a good time. The grounds are spacious and there are many activities around the pool and elsewhere, the bay the nearby amusement park, etc. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food at the various venues was very good, if expensive. Don't miss the pool with the rescued seals. Our suite was very comfortable although, because we were on the first floor, our view was not of the bay but of other people's camper vans.
(Note: I am not a huge fan of Keurig machines. Why can't they just provide an electric kettle?)

All of the staff here is very attentive, caring and kind. The Sandy beach and the cabanas are great, the food here is very good, the kids activities are versatile and awesome way to spend time with the kids. The room side is very generous 660sq.ft perfect with kids, having a kitchen is great but you do need to call and ask for plates, wine opener and stuff to actually use the kitchen if you have food. Cute kids playground. I do with they had a spa or offer some massage services near the beach. The hotel is in Great location! All in all I’ll come back and recommend of this hotel.

We stayed at the Bahia in early August 2026. This review is specifically for the Bay Suite, 2 Queens. 1 and most important: The bay view for the two queen suite is not of Bahia’s private beach but overlooks the public Mission Bay beach, inclusive of the public parking lot right behind the building. We shared the view with dozens of RV / van-life folks who parked there overnight, all of them harmless but indeed transient and parked a few feet away from our balcony. If you were hoping to pay for a quiet view overlooking the water, we do not recommend this suite. 2: The dedicated bedroom for this suite is not air conditioned. They provide an oscillating tower fan, so your options are to keep the bedroom door open and plug in the fan by the door so the cold air from the living room can be pushed in a little bit; to sleep with the bedroom windows open; or to sleep in heat. 3: They do not automatically clean your room daily, but housekeeping is happy to address any requests. 4: Our suite happened to be upstairs, and there are no elevators (think of motel-style buildings for the bay suites). 5: The fan in the bathroom never turns off, which is helpful white noise. 6: Every electrical outlet is loose. Every single one, so be prepared to replug in everything. 7: Tub does not drain quickly. We called maintenance who made a fix but it filled up again so we just dealt with the slow drain.
Reviews about the outdated furnishings, dated color schemes, and clean-but-dirty-looking carpeting—including on the balcony—are valid, but were not a complaint for us. Think “tiki” and not necessarily “modern beach.”
We paid $659 USD/weekend night and $465 USD/weekday, but overall the inconveniences and lack of quality did not meet our expectations.
Staff were all very nice, so service is not the issue.
Nice grounds an restaurants
It is very noisy outside. View at the public lake/park with all the San Diego craziness all hours of the day and night. Just very, very noisy outside all the time! Place itself is nice but we didn’t get much sleep.
Great location, very family oriented. Loved we could walk right out to the beach and let the family play. Rooms were nice, beds were okay. Overall, we would stay again. Staff is nice and friendly ready to help when needed.
The cleanliness was not quite up to my standards, but overall, it wasn't bad.
The facility was quiet and felt very safe. Parking was a breeze! The resort had everything from on sight seals, quiet beach on the bay, and a nice pool. If you didn't want to leave the hotel and you are satisfied with just visiting the bay, you would never need to leave this resort. The room was a nice size and the air conditioner worked very well. The hotel was an easy walk to Mission Beach. We were a little over a mile to Sea World and chose to walk there from the hotel. Saved money on parking!
Our room was on the lower level and our patio was where everyone drives back and forth. Because of this, we never sat and enjoyed our patio. (It did make loading and unloading everything into the room a breeze). The hotel did not have an outdoor shower to rinse off after coming from the beach. We ended up getting our room and our shower more sandy than desired. It's a resort, so food prices are pretty high. But, there are many restaurants within a half mile walk. Starbucks is only 1/3 of a mile away.
