The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming.

We struggled getting warm water regularly. After running the water for a while it did end up turning hot.

Beautiful old hotel in the middle of Lake Placid.
Pros:

Splendid luxury hotel in the middle of Lake Placid. Walk out the door to Main Street shops and fun. Lovely rooftop bar in summer with a lake view.

Cons:

We had a very nice stay here. However, there were some complications. The parking here is very limited, and the hotel uses stack parking to double or triple the usable space. However, this involves a mandatory valet fee, which was $24 per day. We chose "free breakfast" via booking.com. The breakfast here was very good -- a little too good. Usually, a "free breakfast" means self-serve coffee, orange juice and a bagel, maybe some scrambled eggs in a buffet server, which is fine with me. Here, it was in the Marcy restaurant downstairs, a very pleasant sit-down place with a great breakfast menu. However, everyone involved seemed a little hesitant to offer the "free breakfast" as proposed, since it can run up into serious money quickly, based on regular menu prices. We had a great breakfast one morning (fully included), and then skipped it the next day, since we also were hesitant to enjoy such benefits, and felt like we already got our money's worth.

Pros:

Convenience and comfort

Cons:

Valet parking situation left a little to be desired. Seems like there is a slight disconnect between the valet attendants and the front desk. Guests could use more clarity upon arrival.
