The hotel building itself was originally constructed in 1926 and has a long history as part of Melbourne’s hospitality landscape. Over time, it has evolved to meet changing market demands and guest expectations. The property currently operates under the ibis Styles Kingsgate Hotel brand, which is part
of the global ibis Styles network owned by Accor.
The ibis Styles brand has its origins in All Seasons, which was established in Australia in 1980. In 1999, All Seasons was acquired by Accor, integrating the hotel into a global network of midscale and economy hotels. In 2011, All Seasons was rebranded as ibis Styles globally, reflecting a more modern, design focused approach to economy accommodations. The hotel was taken over by its current management in 2014, accompanied by a major refurbishment to modernize the property and align it with ibis Styles
brand standards.
Since then, the hotel has evolved into a vibrant, midscale property catering to both business and leisure travelers, balancing affordability with a stylish, contemporary guest experience. Its central location and design-led concept have helped attract a diverse clientele, including domestic and international visitors.

The staff are very approachable, especially the one who assisted me with checking in. He was very friendly and helpful.
Nothing.
Very close to Southern Cross Station.
I came back to my room to find it unlocked and open for anyone able to access. When I alerted staff on the evening I found out they were very dismissive of my concerns/felt like they didnt believe me. Reported that they would check CCTV footage but never let me know how that happened. I had to follow up the next day to ask what had happened. There were new staff, they were not told/no information was passed on. They did end up confirming that it was cleaning staff that accessed my room BUT I didn't request my room to be cleaned NOR had they actually cleaned my room when they accessed it. If you stay here, make sure you carry ALL valuables with you or use the safe if you cannot take them.
The overall hotel experience was wonderful. First, starting with the booking and check-in experience. I had a few questions which I asked through Booking.com, and the hotel replied within 24 hours to my queries. Then, the staff at the reception were friendly. They also assisted me with providing the form on census night. The room was cosy, ideal for Melbourne winters, equipped with heating, a TV, and a small kitchenette with a kettle and fridge. The bathroom has heat lights and the body wash provided was pleasant on the skin, since I have fairly sensitive skin, it didn't dry out my skin. The best part of my stay had to be breakfast - a great spread of items, with plenty of options for vegetarians. Location was also an added bonus - walking distance to Southern Cross and Bourke Street. The room price was affordable, especially with breakfast included.
The room phone was not working, so I had to connect through my mobile phone or go downstairs to the reception to reach them.
So cost effective. I loved the staff. Very happy and accomodating
