Such a great location! That matters a lot to me.
The old girl is visibly rundown since my last stay (a year ago), and nothing is been done to prop her up.
The front desk staff were phenomenal people who genuinely cared about my stay. They were kind and generous.
Nothing.
Location
Small space
The place Allows dogs which normally I have no problem with but in this case, the dog owners left one of the dogs for 4 hours from 6 to 10 PM and it scratched and barked the entire time. Another owner dogs barked excessively and got loose in the hall one of the nights I was there. The hotel needs a firm policy that owners cannot be allowed to leave their dogs alone in the hotel rooms.
The view from the room, spaciousness, walking distance to everything. Historical charm
Furniture shabby, stained floors, hard bed. Shower very difficult to use. The whole place smells like skunk with no explanation
No breakfast
Restaurant closed. Renovation planned so thin blanket, no bedspread.
Understand the hotel will soon be renovated
No mini refrigerator. Carpet stains. Moist smell of room.
A historical place located on beautiful coast. More than fifty movies and TV shows were made in this town, on this street, on the coast meadows. The hotel, with over hundred years of history, is truly a treasure. Its antique furniture and the historical photos and paintings take people back. It is sad that property has been decaying for some time and is not in good shape now. But renovation and restoration will begin later this year under new ownership. Something to look forward to.
It was old and authentic.
It was pretty basic. No tv, but remodeling starts tomorrow. I hope they don’t ruin any of the antiques or the authenticity of this old hotel.
I was too tired to continue traveling by the time I got to Mendocino, I am glad they had a room for me! The lady at check in was great.
I always like a well lit room. Most hotel rooms I end up in have less light than I prefer. But the view from the room where I stayed was very nice.
Enjoyed the ambiance and how period correct it was.
Location
Front desk clerk acted if she was put out by anything you asked her, very short with you and not at all friendly. (The clerk sun morning for check out)
I loved the historic, old world feeling of this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a small issue with my room but the woman immediately rectified the issue and I got into a new room. So, no problem.
I appreciated the refillable shampoo, body soap in the shower, to reduce plastic single use waste. Please continue with that in the room, by replacing the plastic drinking glass, and single use lotion and soap with refillable options. Small steps, but it would be appreciated to all who care about plastic pollution. It also would save money, in the long run, rather than constantly buying single use disposable products.
The hotel, while historic does need some updating But I hope that with the updating they still keep the same historic feeling, which makes it so special.
