A wonderful hotel that has only got better with age
I first visited Congress Hall when it originally opened, so coming back all these years later was a real pleasure — and, honestly, it’s even better than I remember.
Like a fine wine, Congress Hall has improved with age. What was already a beautiful hotel has developed an atmosphere and personality that feels completely its own. It has matured beautifully without losing the charm and character that made it special in the first place.
The staff were exceptional — friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. Nothing felt forced or overly formal; there’s a warmth to the whole place that makes you feel like a guest rather than a customer.
And then there’s Cape May itself. It has grown into such a beautiful, traditional American seaside town, with its historic architecture, lovely streets and wonderful atmosphere. For me, it has far more charm and character than places such as Cape Cod, which can sometimes feel a little more polished and commercial.
Congress Hall feels like the heart of it all. It’s grand without being pretentious, traditional without feeling dated, and full of character.
We absolutely loved our stay and I’d happily return. In fact, I’m already looking forward to the next visit.
Lovely hotel! Grounds are beautiful! Hotel is old so rooms are in need of renovation. Our room had bumpy floors and was hard to walk around! We are not youngsters so found it very difficult and uncomfortable to get around the room… it’s also dangerous if one was to fall!
A wonderful place, great comfortable rooms, great food and good music. We really enjoyed the food and drinks at the Blue Pig. I particularly enjoyed the crab omelet and the option to add lobster or crab to your salad. We also love that there is live music every night at the hotel as well as great Manhattens! The shuttle service was so helpful, the shuttle came and got us when we got stuck in pouring rain. Self parking our low to the ground car was so easy. The price of an oceanfront room is very high in the summer but it is still worth it. The bed was very comfortable, the ocean view great, the draws and closet provided adequate storage space and the refrigerator worked well.
Everything was lovely!
I asked for a room w/a view for my Mother’s 85th B-Day, but they First assigned her to a room w/a view of an inner HVAC Shaft. However, realizing the error, they moved her to a Beautiful Ocean Front Room, which was greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, the other room for my Brother’s family, who had never been there, also was in the HVAC shaft. But, they enjoyed every thing else very much.
The look of disgust and the eye roll from the waitress when we ordered one drink instead of two because I was driving… really?
Not that it should matter, but it was a Tuesday night with plenty of empty tables.
We’ve been longtime customers of Congress Hall and The Virginia, and experiences like this are disappointing.
Our stay at the Virginia (which is part of the Cape Resorts properties) was once again perfect. The Virginia is a tranquil property located in the heart of Cape May and is in close proximity to shops and restaurants and a short walk to the beach, making it a perfect location. From making our reservations on-line to help with dining reservations, the staff is always there to make sure you are having the best experience. Because this is a Cape Resorts properties property, you have access to all of the other properties and their amenities. (Virginia does not have a pool but you can use the one at Congress Hall). One thing to note is that this hotel doesn’t have an elevator so that might be of importance if you have mobility issues, but it’s only 3 floors and the stairs are broken down to several short runs with landings in between.
The property was absolutely beautiful and pleasant. The hotel has a restaurant, coffee house, gift shop, ice cream shop and it’s full of history all in one place.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
Only reason I gave a 4 is the birds outside bothering some folks. My husband & I both really enjoyed the Superfood bowl with grilled chicken. I also liked the 4 Presidents IPA draft. It was a nice day on the patio & the background music was good & not loud (ie: Fleetwood Mac etc.). Service was good.
Incredible location, great amenities, friendly and courteous staff, and an experience that almost feels like going back in time!
Unfortunately, because it is a very old building, if you have loud, inconsiderate next-door neighbors it can be difficult to enjoy quiet time.
This hotel is “top shelf” and everyone is so accommodating and nice. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Friendly staff
Great location
Good food choices and entertainment
Didn’t have a gym in the property
No slippers in room
Everything from when you walk in the door! The staff ! The restaurants! Our room! Just love it there! Sitting outdoors in rocking chairs having a cocktail 🍸 😎
Nothing
The Beach Shack is the perfect spot to enjoy the gorgeous ocean front, a cool vibe in the beach bar area with spacious, clean rooms with a great surf motif! Nice little kitchenette and separate seating area was really nice & teh upscale vice of the motel was lovely. Live music daily with excellent artists was above & beyond!
Special shout to pool staff. They were at top of their game.
Very disappointed in room due to lack of any kind of view, and lack of a comfortable chair in room.
Loved the history and beautiful property. The pool was great and all staff were friendly. The Spa was amazing.
The plumbing in the room we had was very slow and there was no water pressure
