Awful Service from Restaurant Supervisor
Pros:

Location is great, rooms are average, and service is pretty bad. Particularly, the restaurant supervisor.

My husband and I returned to the hotel after dinner and found that they were still servicing our room. No big deal, so we sat at the large table in the lobby to wait. There was a woman already sitting there, FaceTiming her grandchild.

The inappropriate music in the lobby was BLARING. I say that it was inappropriate because it was R&B and rap, obviously from someone's personal playlist and not elevator music, Oldies, classical, or even Top 40 that you hear everywhere else. It felt like we were in a downtown club.

I made a comment about the noise level to my husband, and he agreed it was very loud. The woman who was talking to her grandchild turned, looked at me, and then pointed to the ceiling speaker where the music was blasting from and motioned with her ears that she couldn't hear.

I went to the front desk to ask if they could turn down the music. As I was speaking to the sweet girl, this gentleman came from the back office and walked over to us. I knew instantly this was going to be an issue. He informed me with an attitude that they always have it that loud during dinner to drown out people's conversations, so that people in the lobby and restaurant can't eavesdrop on anyone else. Um, what? That made absolute no sense. I told him that having the music that loud drowns out ALL conversations, even with the person you're speaking to at your own table, which is why people have to raise their voice to talk to each other. Having the music that loud actually does the opposite. If what he said made any sense, then I question what kind of establishment this is that patrons are in need of such private conversations that they can't order their food or check into their hotel room using a normal inside voice and not having to speak over the music.

He said that he had the general manager's permission to have the music that loud, asked for my room number, and said he could have her speak to me in the morning. It was obvious that he was offended that I didn't take his illogical reasoning and wanted to cause a bigger issue than needed. We both knew why the music was the loud: he wanted it that loud. He wanted to listen to it while he waited on his five tables for the night. I told him that my room number had no effect on the fact that the music was inappropriately loud in the open area. He cut me off and demanded my room number. I just shook my head and walked back to the table where my husband and the other hotel guest were. The woman thanked me for trying and walked outside to continue her conversation with her grandchild, and my husband and I went back up to our room.

Disappointing Stay for Diamond Members — Not the Hilton Experience We Expect
Pros:

My spouse and I are retired and have been traveling full‑time since September 2024. Because we live on the road and stay in hotels year‑round, we rely heavily on consistent service and elite recognition. As long‑time Hilton Honors Diamond members, we’ve experienced excellent treatment at many Hilton properties across the country — which made this stay especially disappointing.

From the moment we arrived, the answer to every request was simply “no.”

• Asked for an upgrade at check‑in → immediate no.
• Asked the day before checkout for a 12:00 checkout → no, and told to “ask tomorrow.”
• The morning of checkout, our room phone didn’t work, so we went downstairs in person → still no, with 11:30 being the absolute latest.

This is not the level of hospitality Hilton typically provides to its most loyal members. We stay in hotels constantly, and the contrast was noticeable. Marriott consistently treats us far better with our elite status, and the difference in recognition and flexibility is significant.

Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this Hilton Garden Inn. If you’re visiting Anchorage, choose another Hilton property — or if you hold status with both Hilton and Marriott, Marriott will likely give you a much better experience.

Great Stay
Pros:

It was a great and comfortable stay, we spent 6 nights and no complaints. They also did housekeeping every alternate day without reminders. Breakfast menu was also good, Dhanush took a good care of us every morning during breakfast with a smile and excellent service. Thanks

Avoid at all costs
Pros:

Worst hotel experience ever and I’ve traveled a great deal. Rooms had a cloying, floral, chemical smell We asked for a refund after feeling lightheaded and a rep agreed. Enter hostile manager. Despite our discomfort and dissatisfaction, she vetoed refund and was extremely rude. GM VB needs a new profession.

Great stay
Pros:

This hotel offers a free and convenient shuttle to and from the airport. The front desk staff, including Faafou, are professional and accommodating and helped store some refrigerated food for us on our last day. Faafou helped us with any questions we had about services and getting around. We had a comfortable stay. The only bummer is that the pool was out for maintenance during our stay but we mostly hiked.

It served its purpose—a place to sleep after long flights before heading for our cruise ship the next day.?
Pros:

The Big Bus (wildlife tour included) picked us up in the lobby and we could walk to athe Bear’s Paw for dinner and (yikes) Golden Corral for breakfast.

Cons:

it was old, dated and dark while being exorbitantly expensive (welcome to Alaska). It was in a block of similar hotels. I’m sure they were all pretty much the same.

Comfortable Hotel
Pros:

We stayed three nights here and found it comfortable and convenient to the sights around Anchorage. The room was clean but had a mildew smell, mostly noticeable when you first walked in. Also, our room wasn't ready when we arrived past the normal check-in time, which they blamed on short staffing in housekeeping. Our first morning for breakfast was on a Friday and the breakfast room was packed. It was hard to find a seat but eventually did. They were also out of several items...like coffee! The next two mornings on the weekend were much quieter at breakfast time. Overall a good stay with very nice staff, especially Simone at the front desk. Not the best HGI I've stayed in, but certainly adequate.
