Polite staff helpful
Cleanliness,False advertising of rooms
We had a really lovely afternoon tea at the Great Victoria last week. The hotel was fairly busy with a wedding, but we were well looked after by Thomas, who returned to us periodically and kept our teas and coffees topped up. The food was fresh and tasty and enjoyed by all five of us. Thank you!
The bed was very comfy.
Carpet in room was full of stains.
Good central location
Ample car parking
Rail and bus interchange within 5 mins walk
Alhambra Theatre within 10 mins walk
Location, staff, breakfast, price
Friendly, helpful staff
Attic bedroom
Very nice comfortable room, helpful staff and good breakfast.
No electricity in the morning upon waking up. Sleep quality was very poor due to excessive noise on the fourth floor, especially from wind and rain. There were no working curtains or window blinds, causing full daylight to enter the room far earlier than the intended wake up time.
Close to interchange lovely room friendly staff
Location and on site car park
Little sound insulation. A tv that didn’t work and the staff despite saying they would come up to fix, never showed up despite being called 3x. As we were going out at 7pm I asked the desk clerk to have it fixed upon our return at 10pm. I checked at the desk before we retired after returning from our night out. Told the tv not fixed. What sort of maintenance schedule does the management operate? We should never of been allocated a room with a faulty tv, particularly as this is a selling point in the hotel’s advertising. Eventually we moved rooms.
At 3.30am had to go down to see the night porter as people in a room on our floor were being loud. This he said he would sort. I then went back to bed. The noise continued intermittently. Woken again at 4.30 by people in a room on floor 2 beneath our room. Once again went down and reported the room number to the porter. This time told him to make a note as in the morning I would be seeking recompense through the hotel manager due to having our sleep badly interrupted. I did not book a hotel to be kept awake half of the night.
The following morning I brought the complaint to the desk manager. Unhelpful - any compensation was dismissed. This is not the end of the matter.
Fabulous historic hotel, right in the city centre. Friendly staff.
£50 damage deposit. Really off putting and you don’t get it back for nearly a week.
Parking has rocketed to £10 a night. Scandalous and the staff said ‘it’s a private firm’. But it’s the hotel car park and has been for years, so don’t hide behind that excuse. Again a big issue.
Central location and beautiful hotel.
£50 deposit. Which takes up to five days to get back.
The staff we encountered were friendly and professional.
We had a room in the eaves on the 4th floor.
The chair at the desk was stained and looked very unclean. The glass shower door was not clean, and the mirror in the bathroom was the sane. The smell from the shower was awful.
The bar area was cosy, staff were all friendly and super helpful. The room was clean and bathroom was nice and roomy.
With the building being older the windows were a tad drafty, but I was provided with an extra duvet on request.
